Good day to our friends at Planetform Inc.
Firstly allow me to introduce myself, I am David Crooke, director at Orbital Spa & Cruise. Due to the evacuation of Planet Curacao during the Gallic invasion into Cortez, there have been a bit of a reshuffle over at corporate and I have been appointed as spokesperson for Orbital Spa & Cruise.
It has come to our attention that the terraforming project on Planet Anaheim, formerly Planet California Minor, is coming to a close and the planet is open for development. Orbital Spa & Cruise wishes to express interest in possible future developments on the planet and hope that Planetform Inc. may assist us in providing some information about the characteristics of the newly developed planet.
Firstly, we hope that you are able to provide us with climate and geographical data on the new planet. Planet Anaheim was previously a planet with an arctic environment. After the terraforming process, we wish to inquire if the planet's new climate would be temperate, cold or whatever. This combined with geographical data will allow us to determine if certain areas of Planet Anaheim will be a good fit for development into resorts or other luxury facilities.
Secondly, we hope that you are able to provide us with geographical survey data. If my sources are correct, majority of Planetform's work on the planet involved tapping into natural gases present underneath the ice of Planet Anaheim. If there is natural gas, there might be the possibility of volcanic activity. With the correct equipment and expertise which Planetform may possess, it may be possible to engineer hotsprings. This possibility is of great interest to Orbital Spa & Cruise.
Finally, we hope to set up a small branch office on the planet ahead of time in order to facilitate any developments by Orbital Spa & Cruise planetside. If Planet Anaheim holds the potential that Orbital Spa & Cruise sees in it, we hope to be able to expand this branch office in the future.
My name is Doctor Norman Grey, recently appointed CEO of Planetform, Inc. Prior to my promotion, I served as Project Director on Anaheim, so I've chosen to answer this personally rather than delegating it to a subordinate. Your heard incorrectly when you were informed that the project was nearing completion. In fact, the project was completed in full earlier this year. We are currently in the process of handing over day-to-day administration of the planet to the Libertonian Government. You'll need to speak with them concerning any development on the planet, but I can answer your questions at least.
I'll address your second question first, as it's the easier of the two. Your assumption about volcanic activity on Anaheim is correct. The fact that the planet is geologically active is what made such rapid progress possible in the first place. I will have my engineers forward you a list of the most likely locations for your hot springs. At least a few of them are in scenic locations, bound to draw tourists from all over Sirius, so I have no doubt you will find a location to your liking.
Now, for your first question. As I'm sure you're aware, planets generally do not possess a single global climate. Describing entire planets as 'desert' or 'arctic', though common, is incorrect. Every planet has a variety of regional climates. Even a barren, airless world, if only through variations in solar input. Anaheim is obviously no exception. Though the exact weather and climate can vary by region, I can break it down roughly by latitude. Though inexact, it should give you a general idea of the conditions on the planet.
Even after the terraforming, Anaheim is colder than other inhabited worlds such as Los Angeles or Manhattan, but any attempt to warm the planet further would've upset the delicate balance we've created causing a runaway greenhouse effect, and eventually rendering the planet uninhabitable again. Even with the colder average temperatures, Anaheim has a temperate climate in the tropical region, between 0° and 22° latitude. As you move away from the tropics, between 22° and 40° of latitude, the climate transitions from temperate to taiga. Further towards the poles, between 40° and 50° latitude, you encounter tundra conditions. Everything above 50° is generally polar conditions.
I hope the above answers your questions. If you need anything else from us, please feel free to ask.
