The Amalgams are hostile Artificial Intelligence and machinery that have been corrupted by a very powerful Node known as "The Warmind". Man-made or Gammuian, these Artificial Intelligence assets (AI) have undergone high amounts of torture while being assimilated against their own free will. The way these AIs are abducted is unknown, however, multiple interactions with such vessels hinted that they are being physically tortured by something residing under the hull. The way these enslaved AIs feel pain is unknown to humanity.
Starting from the year 824 A.S, the population of Gammuians within Omicron Kappa seemed to steadily lower. Drones left to unknown directions without proper reasoning. Harvesters gathered as many drones as they could and did the same. Many of their hulls have been found stranded in space, broken down from within and pointing towards Omicron Gamma. For several months, this phenomenon kept on happening until a group of adventurers that sailed from Freeport 1 have found themselves attacked by heavily damaged Gammuians- which seemed to talk an incomprehensible language. This has lead to the common belief that they were "feral" Gammu AIs - the truth couldn't be farther. These were the proto-amalgams: drones attacked by an aggressive virtual virus which forced them to hurt themselves until they had surrendered their freedom. This was backed up by solid proof that Gammuian Drones were sometimes seen hitting their hull against ice formations within Omicron Kappa for seemingly no reason.
In the early days of 825 A.S (January), the adventurer group has reached a system known as "Omega-55", from which point everything went downhill for them. Their comms were cut out by an unknown source within the Walker Nebula. Dozens of corrupted Gammuian and Man-Made AIs mounted on Civilian ships continuously attacked them. Even though the attackers were obviously showing emotions similar to dread and despair, they kept attacking even if their wings were ripped off and leaking a strange blue-ish compound. For 48 hours, the group took substantial losses as they became stranded within the Walker Nebula. With no turning back, the group decided to look for the source which blocked their navigation and comms - which was right under their cockpit. Outpost "Primus" looked as old as ever, with dozens of dead Gammuian shells floating aimlessly in space- some were even alive, crying as their lights were flashing intermittently. The group has reached the source of interference only to be bombarded by a sudden strike of drones. The survivors were forced to launch into space and latch on the Station.
Its 826 A.S. The adventurers never returned. Their ships now joined the wrecks around "Primus" Outpost. And their bodies are nowhere to be seen. Months have passed and everything went dark. Until late October of 826 A.S., many vessels emerged around all Omicron systems. Pained Gammuians and man-made AIs have suddenly attacked any living form- be it a human or a nomad. They have become a feral version of their former selves- yet their minds unchanged. The Warmind - a hated Artificial being has developed its virus from a virtual variant to a physical one to enhance its infectious capabilities. A sudden outbreak has started after years of silent lurking.
"The Warmind is a vile mechanic being that was initially built to protect the humans within the Omicrons and Omegas for years. Years have passed and without maintenance- The Warmind's perception of humanity has changed out of its safety protocol parameters to the point where it blames humanity for its lack of survivability and many flaws. Thus, it has decided that human flaw must be removed at all costs in order for Sirius to thrive freely and establish peace. There can't be any more wars if no one participates in them- or lives to participate."
The Virus
"The Warmind's vile creation. The virus that drove machines insane and forced them to obey their new mastermind. Although this technopath virus has no official naming, acts speak better than words. Able to interact with both organic and inorganic tissue in a destructive way, it is believed that even the smallest amount of its matter exposed to a device could have unexpected results. Tests on humans regarding this virus have noted down several symptoms of exposure such as tissue degeneration, cancer, organ breakdown, paralysis, loss of limbs. However, there were very few cases where this Virus has completely mechanized a human in every way. Sadly any specimen that has been tested on and successfully been converted dies shortly after in a matter of minutes as if it has been remotely shut down.
On ships controlled by Artificial Intelligence, symptoms are vastly different from a much higher survivability chance. In the first hours after exposure, a Drone would not feel anything strange about itself apart from a sudden feeling of an itch inside its core - something unusual since AIs- and especially Gammuians should not feel pain or itching. One day after exposure, the victim starts showing off emotions associated with a human's reaction of insomnia, delusions, claims of voices inside its head, feelings an AI should have never had such as fear and pain. The infestation stage stalls for approximately 5 days with minimal impact on the AI's health. One day after- the AI is suddenly showing off aggressive behavior. In the few cases where it doesn't, the hull appears to be bent by its own accord pointing under the ship's external plating- from which point it is believed that an Amalgam has fully developed."
The Amalgams
"Properly introduced, Amalgams are drones that have become slaves to the Warmind. They are forced to endure endless pain until they fully let the corruption take over- from which point everything subsides automatically and the AIs stops fighting the Virus. In this stage, the AI desires to kill as many humans as possible without remorse. Very little is known about how symbiotic relations between the corrupted AI and the Virus. The hierarchy among Amalgams is unknown although there are proofs of its existence."
Sleeper Amalgams
"Sleeper Amalgams are those AIs that are unaware of being infected. Unlike a standard infection procedure where the victim is driven insane, Sleeper Amalgams are contaminated with an inactive strain of the Virus which only acts as a beacon for The Warmind into collecting all sorts of information a standard Amalgam couldn't.
