Raphael Chandler, a scientist and engineer, is currently a member of the Science Division within the Order. He is renowned for his successful projects involving the development of spacecraft and stations for the organization. His expertise in the field of science is widely recognized within this influential covert group, known as the Omicrons, where ongoing progress is vital for maintaining their dominance in both the edge worlds and beyond. Raphael's deep understanding of the significance of technological advancement, gained from his experience in Liberty, has led him to actively participate in numerous projects, and at times even initiate his own.
His exceptional work has caught the attention of a powerful organization within the Omicrons, forging close ties with the Order. The organization's extensive network of agents, renowned for their surveillance capabilities, has taken notice. As a capable scientist, Raphael seizes every opportunity to explore and utilize the latest technologies available within the Order, in order to further enhance his own work. With each project he contributes to, he grows closer to this covert organization, eagerly lending his assistance to their ambitious endeavors. Recognizing Raphael's keen interest and potential in studying classified Nomad materials, particularly within the Alaska system, they have acknowledged his dedication. It is also worth noting the invaluable guidance provided by his mother, Linsey, who has been instrumental in shaping his path towards success.
»Early Life
Raphael Chandler was born on December 9th, 782 A.S. on Liberty's Planet Los Angeles. As a child, he stood out due to his insatiable curiosity, particularly in the field of science. However, his parents, burdened by their commitments in the Liberty Navy, didn't seem to have much time to devote to him. Nevertheless, Raphael's mother, Linsey Chandler, recognized his keen interest in space-related phenomena and made efforts to nurture his passion. She understood the value of his curiosity and willingly sacrificed her own work to fuel his knowledge, often taking him on brief space trips using their patrol spaceship.
As Raphael grew older and more mature, he delved deeper into scientific studies, showcasing remarkable abilities. However, the outbreak of the Nomad war drastically changed the course of his life. His father, Lieutenant Harvey Chandler, a skilled pilot, mysteriously disappeared, adding to the chaos that engulfed Liberty. Many esteemed admirals also vanished without a trace. Meanwhile, Linsey had connections with a powerful organization in the distant edge worlds, secretly meeting its agents on several occasions. Faced with alarming circumstances, she reestablished contact, driven by fear and the need to protect what she could, including her child's interests. Recognizing Raphael's extraordinary talent in science, she took a calculated risk. Making a necessary move, she arranged an evacuation to meet the Order, the only organization she trusted, ensuring their safety. They were swiftly relocated to Planet Toledo, situated in the Omicron region. The Order promptly recognized Raphael's rare abilities and willingly provided him with materials to study, seeking his assistance in comprehending their technology. In the face of the aggressive Nomad threat, humanity needed fresh scientific minds, and Raphael's potential was crucial to their cause.
»Nomad War
As the war escalated, the relentless onslaught of hostile forces from the Nomads and Infectees grew increasingly intense. Amidst the chaos, Raphael found himself well-versed in technology, discerning the subtle disparities between Liberty's and the Order's technological advancements, thanks to his comprehensive knowledge of both. Linsey, content with her own achievements, now patrolled the Order's territory, reciprocating the concern she had always shown for her child. Whenever there was a lull in the fighting, Raphael seized the opportunity to study and contribute to minor projects within the Order.
During this period, Liberty had become infested, along with the rest of the houses, and many generals defected to the Order, driven by the desire to mount a counterattack against the Nomads and Infectees. Unfortunately, many of these defectors met with failure, succumbing to the relentless onslaught of the Nomads. Towards the end of the war, Toledo, their haven, suffered frequent bombardment from the Nomads, rendering it unstable for productive research. In order to ensure Raphael's safety, he was relocated to the Battleship Osiris to continue his studies.
Tragically, during a devastating battle near Toledo, Linsey, while valiantly defending the planet, fell victim to overwhelming enemy firepower. Her untimely demise left an indelible mark not only on Raphael but also on the Order itself. He carried her memory in his heart, recognizing the sacrifices she made to secure his future and drawing inspiration from her bravery. Throughout the remainder of the Nomad war, Raphael diligently studied the Order's technology, while also making attempts to unravel the mysteries of Nomad technology.
»The Order
In the aftermath of the Nomad war, the entire society, including the Order, faced the consequences that had a profound impact on their economy, as the cost of protecting humanity took its toll. As a result, research efforts experienced a significant slowdown, which subtly affected the pace of Raphael's studies. However, the conclusion of the war also presented an opportunity for further development.
Choosing to remain within the organization, Raphael saw himself as an agent, grateful for the Order's supportive gestures that propelled him forward on his path to becoming a scientist. The loss he endured served as a driving force, motivating him to continue his studies and contribute to the covert organization, thereby repaying his mother's dedication. After the war, he returned to Toledo to further enhance the Order's technology while resuming his own research. Growing increasingly fascinated by the Nomads and their existence, he directed his attention towards advancing his understanding of them. Linsey's wisdom and discernment proved to be correct, as she recognized the significance of her actions in nurturing Raphael's exceptional talent. It is challenging to speculate what might have transpired if she hadn't acknowledged his abilities or intervened in a timely manner. Due to these undeniable truths, Raphael sought to express his gratitude by making his mother proud.
Within the Order, he found himself assigned to the esteemed Science Division, entrusted with the ongoing quest to expand the organization's knowledge, pushing the boundaries of their understanding, and innovating with the development of modern spacecraft and stations.
»Toledo
During his tenure in the Order, Raphael acquired extensive knowledge in the fields of science and engineering, areas in which the organization was in dire need to withstand the hostile aggression prevalent in the edge worlds. The constant requirement for extensive research and development remained paramount. Meanwhile, the Nomads seemed to be regaining strength following their initial collapse, growing increasingly uncontrollable. Compounding the situation, the BHG Core rose in influence, deploying capital ships and encircling the Order, casting doubt on its very existence. Amidst this turmoil, there was a significant star system that stood out, potentially harboring a habitable planet.
As the conflict raged on in Toledo, where pressure mounted from all sides, Raphael managed to evacuate to one of the Battleships where groundbreaking Jump Drive technology was being developed. His involvement in its creation made him intimately familiar with this advanced technology. Despite the tremendous risks involved, the Jump Drive successfully transported thousands of civilians and agents to the Omicron Mu system, leaving behind a heavy sense of sorrow and despair due to the tragic fall of Toledo. The planet witnessed not only the ruthless acts of the Nomads but also the perpetration of genocide by fellow humans. Since that fateful event, Raphael's determination and passion have been ignited, propelling him to strive even further as a competent scientist and engineer, seeking to advance the available technological marvels at his disposal.
»The Order Overwatch
Following the successful evacuation to the habitable star system of Omicron Mu, the situation has undergone significant changes. Fortunately for Raphael, much of his work remained intact, particularly the development of the Jump Drive technology, which held immense importance for the citizens and agents. With control over several systems within the Omicrons, the Order had access to valuable resources. However, the aftermath left Toledo devastated due to the ruthless aggression it endured.
Raphael's focus shifted towards the continued development of spacecraft and various stations, aimed at advancing the Order's technology. During this time, he became aware of a powerful faction within the organization known as the Order Overwatch. Their rapid rise in influence and prominence caught Raphael's attention. Driven by his passion for scientific and engineering projects, he made the decision to join this group within the organization, becoming an integral part of the primary fleet.
