Carrier Powell is a Liberty Naval super carrier and lead class commissioned into service in 827 A.S for the Second Fleet of Liberty Navy. It served as a test-bed for the project "Harpoon" - a modified "Lewis" Kinetic cannon.
Construction of the carrier began in 823 A.S in Virginia system under orders from the 4th fleet, as the Gauls pushed for California. However, the ship construction was delayed because of the war effort, so the first launch took place in 825 A.S as LNS-Brooklyn. The carrier had to undergo testing up until 826 A.S with capture of RNS Carcassonne, a "Richelieu"-class Battleship. It presented a unique opportunity for the Liberty Navy and Research and Development corps. The Brooklyn was brought to Juneau Shipyard shortly after the Carcassonne. It would be retrofitted and rechristened as LXC-Powell, where LXC stood for "Liberty Experimental Carrier".
The modifications done to the Powell were those of armor, weapon targeting systems and fighter bays. The team that retrofitted the ship drew inspiration from the Carcassonne as a good sample of Gallic engineering genius: the armor upgrade made the Powell as durable as the Carcassonne is. The carrier can stand heavy damage but remain operational and capable to strike back. The improved tracking system provides the Powell with better targeting against small craft in close range and warships in medium or long-range engagements.
Taken into account the experience of various battles against the Gallic Royal Fleet's, the engineers decided to enlarge the hangars, so that the latter can contain an increased number of any fighter-sized craft, providing allies with the reinforcement of small-craft during combat.
The combination of three MB10a "Lewis"-class cannons, now "Harpoon"s provides the carrier with both kinetic damage against the hull and armor of hostile ships but also the shield damage thanks to weak EMP generators on shells, two EMP-1 turrets can pierce the target's shields within the range of four thousand meters forward to the ship, making the "Harpoon"s and EMP turrets strong and fearful. Meanwhile, one "Cerberus"-class turret in pair with two "Sledge"-class cannons provides the ship with sufficient power to heavily damage any capital vessel, dared to come close enough to the ship.
Even after the war with the Kingdom of Gallia ended and fall of the Monarchy, the Liberty Navy still has to face a lot of enemies, such as the Separatist's movement within and at the border of Liberty, Nomad threat from the Omicrons or even a ghost threat of Kingdom's return - the Enclave, but as usual - the Liberty Navy will hold line against these threats, for the Republic and for Sirius sector.
With the Carrier approved into regular combat service in Liberty Navy, the Powell made it's way to Texas system where it joined the Concord Battlegroup as it moved upon the Separatist and Terrorist stronghold - Bering system. Due to Powell's value and firepower, it was mostly left behind and only used as a deterrent to Separatists strike which tried to damage Navy vessels.
After the cleansing of Bering was completed - Powell proceeded back to Texas system, however, it wasn't long before a surprise attack upon the Willard station was executed by remnants of Hellfire Legion and Battlegroup Harmony - which defended the Research Station 27 years ago back in the Nomad War. Powell was relocated swiftly to Planet Anaheim California Minor to defend it as Hellfire Legion and Separatist movement merged into one cell called "Liberty Insurgency" and successfully received a foothold in the California system, however, it was disabled in a fight against a Hellfire Task Force and was forced to retreat - where it went to Alaska system for major repairs.
After the return to duty, the ship was supposed to receive it's new commanding officer, a decorated Gallic and Rheinland war veteran, Captain Alice Heyes who had commanded Battleship Shenandoah through 826 A.S and 827 A.S - Captain Heyes was removed from duty after suffering a hit on the bridge of LNS Yukon's Revenge, where she was reported to enter the coma state in the summer of 827 when Operation "The Scouring of Bering" happened - but after two months former Shenandoah's Captain awakened from her sleep and she was supposed to take charge of the Carrier in December 827 A.S - with the 50% of her crew old crew being transferred under her command. However, the complications did not allow her to return to the active duty - has been placed in reserve.
