Biography:
Sato surename bears absolutely no significance in the Kusari world, except maybe for one thing. Roughly a fifty years ago they, like many other Kyushian families, were owners of vast swaths of land on their planet, employing dozens of farmers to cultivate rice and other produce to be sold on tightly controlled market of their House, earning considerable profits not without the assistance of the Empire itself, willing to grant extreme privileges to those troubling themselves with such a vital proffesion to the well being of it's citizens.
That was of course, until 775 A.S., when the Empire, in fear of loosing foreign trade partners, decided overnight to deregulate it's food industry. With the age of protectionism ended, farmers of Kyushu, knowing that they would not have any chance to compete alone against the Libertonian industry giant, the Synth Foods, formed a political movement that we know today as Farmer's Alliance.
Months passed, but the Kusari Empire remained deaf to the clamors of the Kyushans, lobbing to get their privileges back. Seeing the inevitable wave of bankruptcy and unemployment, and in fear of loosing everything, the alliance of farmers shifted their modus operandi from lobbying to protesting. Then, protests turned into riots, and then, it didn't take long for the rioters to turn into political violence as either a feasible solution to their problems, or as a way to take their rage upon those they deemed responsible for their loss.
This is when Sato family have made their most decisive business decision. The fields of Kyushu, a patrimony in the hands of Satos for three generations, was sold, and acquired credits were invested in a fleet of spacecrafts, each and every one of them filled to the brim with ordinance. These crafts were then leased to the pilots of the Alliance, encouraging them to cause as much chaos for the Empire as they please, wanting only a percentage of credits either from the busted shipments, or blood money.
Gasped by the success of their new venture, the family, true to their entrepreneurial spirit, decided on it's expansion. Satos, person by person, slowly built their connection to the underworld, and started to act as realtors of the movement between them and the vast, remorseless black market of Sirius sector. In those many exchanges, Farmers' Alliance would gain equipment, credits, weapons and ... fearsome reputation. Sirian underworld, in return, could obtain any good it could ever desire, liberated from the unlucky soul foolish enough to trespass any Kusarian system.
For the reason of secrecy, or simply as a running joke, associates of the said venture officially referred to it as "Nouka", or their new farmhouse. Eventually, a newly found business turned out to be surprisingly lucrative for the family, earning them a considerable fortune. Something they could have only dreamed of in their agricultural past.
However, winds of change reached the movement. Blame for the farmers' misery shifted from bad decisions of The Kusari government, to a mere existence of foreigners within the house. Samura Industries, previously viewed just as one of many patrons of the alliance, became it's new idol, whose motives and orders were never to be questioned. Goal of the entire movement also altered. The Farmer's Alliance was no longer in selfish fight to protect what rightfully belonged to the citizens of the empire. Now, the mission was preservation of an ill defined "Kusarian way of life", and destruction of anything and anyone that would oppose it, inspiring blind, burning hatred in it's members towards other revolutionary movements of their homeland.
Now, as the alliance was ready to build it's future together with Samura under the Elder's leadership, it's reliance on underworld connections for survival dropped significantly. After all, it was now the Kerietsu who supplied ships, equipment, and set at targets to capture. Not only the Nouka's significance within the movement was lost, it's very existence was threatened, as now, the Elder in his great plan sought to soften the image of the organization, promoting his subordinates as vanguards of peace and justice.
Eventually, The Nouka was kept as a part of the movement. Unfortunately for the Alliance's new leader, he still needed to rely on skills and resilience of outlaw pilots to advance his agenda. "The Farmhouse" was now viewed as an oddity, a semi-autonomous criminal organisation called upon whenever The Elder or his patrons needed dirty work done.
All of those events however, precede the person, whose biography it was supposed to showcase. Satos lived to see their only child born. A boy christened with the name "Akane", joined the family in the year 798 A.S, This however, had come with a price to pay. Satos, now living as vagabonds in Kusarian space, had trouble accessing necessary health services in time for Asami, the boy's mother, who de facto run the whole ordeal of "The Farmhouse". She died shortly after giving birth.
Akane was raised outside of the bonds of Kusarian society, and had a taste of everything that the life of an outlaw had to offer. He remembers the haunting dreams of the first man, whose life he mercilessly took away. He also remembers thrill and adrenaline rush after his first busted shipment. He witnessed his closest friends getting murdered by law enforcement officers, and his heart suffered forbidden love on Newport. Akano followed in his parents' footsteps, learning the trade of the family just as Kusarian tradition demanded, but in a bitter, twisted way. Living such a live, the man develop unique perspective on many things. He never viewed himself as a victim of the system, forced to live a low life. Quite contrary. To Akano, he was the one on top, free to experience his life as he pleased. He cherished the one thing he got in exchange for his hardships. Freedom.
Shortly after Akano finally gathered enough experience to lead The Farmhouse, his leadership skills were put into a test. A civil world erupted in his homeland. Elder, the self proclaimed avatar of conservative Kusari, pledged his allegiance to the Imperial Forces, and ordered his Alliance to fight beside imperial troops. He shed no tear when his militia pacified their own Kyushan kin. Akano was, of course, too young to remember the beginnings of the movement he was indeed part of, his elders, however, taught him well. He knew that it were the Imperials who were responsible for his family's fate, and for fate of many other Kyushan farmers. The man could not see a single reason why him and his band should spill blood for the corrupted empire, thus, he made a controversial decision of disobeying the command.
Naturally, The Nouka never had the strength to face combined armed forces of the Exiles, Farmers' Aliiance and the Kempeitai in direct combat, and prevent the imperial lockdown of Planet Kyushu. They did however what they could best, smuggling necessary supplies behind the front lines, giving aid to the already impoverished communities of the planet devastated by the military operations in one hand, and arming the civilian bands still eager to preserve their sovereignty, even for a price of their lives, in the other. Many believe the current political upheaval of the planet to be their doing. Rumor has it many of those bands refused to lay down their weapons to this day.
Civil war ended with a truce, and creation of new government. Every revolution however devours it's children. Farmers' Alliance, as a gesture of gratitude for their hand in Imperial war efforts, were now criminalzed trough out entire Kusari. Akano, encouraged by successful operations on Kyushu, took another leap of faith.
Confident that the Alliance finally opened their eyes and realized thy were nothing but disposable tools in the hands of great powers toying with Kusari, he spread his message. The leader encouraged the Alliance and it's supporters to abandon the Elder, the Samura, and the Kusari government, and to unite under new banner. He called not to mourn, but to embrace their newly gained status, and to ruffle the "new perfect world", newly build by those who mistreated them once again. He tried to encourage them by bringing up the etos of self-governance and history of Noshima Murakami, of pre-kusarian pirate kings who rose from nothing into a powerfull house, able to safeguard the economy not only of their island, but the whole kingdom.
He failed, and this time, there was a price to be paid for his treachery.
Weather the Kyushan spirit was too damaged in the war, or Kyushans themselves had found comfort in ability to cultivate heir traditions, herded as a livestock by interstellar corporation, that we may never know. Akano failed to attract masses into "The Nouka". and was given an ultimatum. Either he will stop his harmful propaganda and surrender his assets to the Alliance's leadership, or his group will be thrown out of the movement, forbidden to enter Kusari ever again. Chosing the latter, Akane withdrawn his funds from the Alliance's coffers, powered up the inherited ships of the Sato family, gathered still loyal subordinates and, without remorse, left his homeworld.
His plan? Having little to no options left, he turned into making a fortune in the trade taught by previous generations of the Sato. Whatever happends - happends. After all, it is better to reign in hell, than to serve in haven.
