Hi, i used to play Discovery a long time ago... (version 4.84) and now i came back and played a little, but why can't i chose the ship of my wishes anymore? everytime i make some adjustments i got power decreased...
the first thing happens when i found a cool fighter... boom only 10%!! power, just because my id was not right (it was even a freelancer id... and if i am right, a freelancer does not belong to a faction... he should use the ship he want, if i am right)? then, i changed id to a faction i do not like a lot...
then next character... gunboat... weak as hell (they were a lot stronger the old times... and for 30millions i want a relatively strong ship) and i wanted to make adjustments... boom power decrease, because of the weapons.... wasted another 30mio for weapons just to find something, thats not that bad at all... but when i am in cruise my energy does not regenerate at all, when i break the cruise speed... now i just hate the gunboat and changed to bomber (had relatively good mamories about it)
but what happened there? after first flight could not kill a single gunboat?
don't get me wrong, its a cool mod (it ever was), and i like that you keep frelancer alive, but after a study of FLstat i see, that the balance is way off... even the codename weapons are weaker than buyable normal weapons... weapons with higher projectile and refire speed have more dps than the slower ones... it needs a rebalance, that players can actually are able to choose weapons. there is very much unused potential in it.
ah yes... and the power decrease got my money here too... maybe there should be an info in the scorecard, which faction can use that cannon, ship or whatever... it burns out the noobs money... and they are the ones, which are hurt, when its more expensive... an advanced player has enough money, but maybe they know which faction can use which gun...
the hard way to learn is not a good one.
its hard to roleplay, if i get dictated my role.
-i cannot get another ship on other ways (in roleplay history... in real i can buy, but its crap, because a fighter, that only has 10% of its power regeneration is just worth nothing...) so i cannot play my favourite ship
-i cannot work on my ship, because every bit i can change just leads in power sanctions...
-and even the weapons that should be strong (codenames) are weaker than common ones
so, where is the roleplay? just in chat? thats only the tiniest bit of roleplay... sorry that is my meaning. (and i am a pen and paper roleplayer)
greetings Sefu
PS: i hope you will not be upset about my post, but i just had to post it... i had to get it out of my soul...
/EDIT: I even did not find any references in the Forum about it, and WIKI is even outdated
/EDIT2: ah i forgot... i bought a Gammu AI Reputation raise 2 times, toget friendly with the AI but it resets to unfriendly in freelancer ID, why is that? i paid twice for getting other reputations down? and nothing up? and again... i did not find anything about that either... there is just another ghuy, who was not able to get them neutral... i was able, but it resets, so its another case

You aren't going to hit every shot.
The slower guns might have lower dps but you get more bang per buck and therefore are rewarded for your short burst of accuracy in those short windows where you have a clear shot.

Also you can start your own unofficial faction and work your way to officialdom and be what ever rank you want to be.
Some factions let you start as a side subsidiary faction as what ever ship you want and with it, a rank allowed to fly it. Such as the BRF. So you'd start a BRF character for your cap for instance and use a second character as the official BAF and use that to rank up until you can officially use your cap.
But this also encourages you to actually build up your character which then gives it some backstory through experience rather than solely imagination which I personally enjoy.

Why would a military who needs to identify their own ships in a war let civilians use their ships. Same with other factions. Of course it depends what that faction is doing. A military will be more strict than a mining corporation for instance.

Trading is easy and p much done mostly afk and you earn this much in a single run.
Also missions now give you well enough cash. The economy is very good for beginners right now. You can actually PVE and play the game instead of watching tv and pressing F3 every minute.

Some factions are rephacked hostile to certain things. If you buy the rep raise and it resets when you undock, your ID is automatically going back to hostile due to something RP related between AI and Freelancer ID. This snippet from the wiki says they avoid all contact with humans. " They exist on the periphery of the Sirius sector, deliberately eschewing human contact, yet occasionally forced into house space by unceasing resource demands."

Thats right, but in terms of balance i will EVER choose the one with more PROs...
an example:
Weapon 1: pro (more projectile speed), pro (high refire rate), pro (high dps), pro (a bit less energy per second), pro (enemy has less time to recover and high chance to hit) contra (low single hit damage)
Weapon 2: contra (low projectile speed), contra (low refire rate), contra (very low dps), contra (a bit more energy per second), contra (enemy has more time to recover and my shots have hit miss rate) pro (moderate to high single hit damage)
sorry, but in this case, weapon 2 is just useless... in terms of balance i would make a point system for balancing... and every faction would become good in a topic... so for example...
liberty are usually high fire rate weapons
rheinland usually have strongest dps in weapons, but this comes with energy cost and low firerate
betonia has fastest projectile speed
kusari are well balanced
nomads has lowest energy efficiency but only moderate weapons
council has homing energy weapons with low damage (even less damage at weapons that has better turn rate)
and so on...

i did mot meant the "clan" factions... i meant the IDs... if i want a rheinland ship, i have to be rheinland or something like that, if i want to be liberty, i have to be a liberty ID or something like that... and so on. and every ID has its dictated morale... if i am a police, i have to stay in my area in most cases... etc. makes roleplaying less interesting.

here i have to agree... but when it works THAT way, there is abselutely no way to have it, because its a pain in the ***... its better, if factions only give it out to perfectly friendly players... make it hard to get to this point, when you are anothcer ID, but this way is odd (less interresting roleplay as well). maybe it should be explained with a background story in the forum, too.

Yes, Trading is and ever was easy. And i like the new Bounty system (for me, its new). But still. if you buy something of your interrest and see, that its actually crap, you will be angry... and its ONLY crap, because of the power sanction. You would be more angry (if you are honest), if the trow-away-money is not your fault, because there is nothing that warns you.

now, thats really helping... if i am honest i just understand a little bit from the SRP request on the first look, but i only did a first look... but it seems, that my problem with the energy drain could be fixed that way... its a lot of work though... if i am right i have to list every ini, hardpoint ect. i do not know how i get to it yet... but i will read carefully tomorrow... this one should be linked in the "how to get started" post as well... i mean... do you ever use the search function of this forum? i ever get everything buit the seach i did ^^
and the roleplay undersection... yes.. i saw that...
/EDIT: ah and the problem is, that you CANNOT test the Equipment properly... maybe the is not rounded and you want to change it... it will take time and efford for EVERY test...

ah, i did not know that its locked... its a bit sad though... so, if i just want them as ally, its another SRP request as well... i mean... in rp scenarios, there are some ways... but in my case they are not that important... i just wondered, about the reset... but that means, that there is a RP dictate as well, if i put the SRP aside...
the SRP is hard work for a bit of peace in RP and its not worth in many cases... and thus, its an dictate, because i think many players simply don't know about SRP and others simply goes the way of less resistance...
PS: i will go to sleep now... its 4 am in germany, so do not wonder if i react late to next posts
The green powernerf messages could and should be made more informative for sure. Even if there is some reason why it wont be able to tell exactly why you got nerfed, it should be able to tell you what are the probable reasons.
Power reduction is due to the technerf or techcompat system to ensure loadouts make roleplay sense. You can see the configurations here.
IDs will also enforce a certain set of reputations. Every ID is unfriendly to the "Game Master" faction, and are prevented from gaining reputation. Most IDs are hostile to the Nomads, and are prevented from becoming friendlier, same as Gammu AI. You can see those configurations here.
You can freely test equipment in single player mode, or by running a local server and connecting to it using instructions in the tutorials section.
