The Nightmare was the first Storta-class destroyer purchased by the Vagrant Raiders. Originally employed by the Vagrant Raiders as a Close-In warship, the ship was stationed in the Vespucci System in support of the Hellfire Legion/Lane Hacker/Vagrant Raider Alliance. In early 817A.S. Vagrant Raider Overlord Blain Spike had a minor retrofit of the weapons systems completed to support ranged fire support for combat operations. The ship was assumed to be lost with all hands in late 817A.S.
In 827A.S. the wreck of the VCS-Nightmare was discovered by Billy Xae, a Retired Vagrant Raider. After Negotiating with the Natio Octavarium, Billy Xae took ownership of the hull. With the help of the Junker’s Congress, Natio Octavarium, and other organizations Billy was able to get the Nightmare rebuilt and retrofitted. Rechristened as the MCS-Nightmare the destroyer now functions as a Heavy Combat Warship for hire, and is often seen in the employ of less-than-savory groups of Sirius.
Clockwork 4.0 Based Full Ship Computer System by Aquila Defense Systems
Module: Limelight R40 Sensor Suite Integration Kit (Beta 1.0)
Module: Coldfire 6.1 Combat Information System
Module: Chronicle 2.7 Navigation and Ship Plotting System
Module: Necromancer 1.0 Reactor and Engineering Control System (Developed in conjunction with the Junkers Congress)
Sensor Suite: Aquila Defense Systems Limelight R40-N
The Limelight R40 is an Export Model of the Limelight YYZ scanner array designed and manufactured by Aquila Defense Systems. The Limelight R40 is an Exploration Grade Solid State Phased Grid Array installed directly on the hull, with standard ceramic ablative armor placed in front of the array for protection of the vessel. The R40 is comprised of multiple modular Radar Assemblies (RA), allowing the radar system to be installed in a large variety of configurations. In addition to standard Radar Sensors, Optical and Infrared sensors are installed on the vessel to provide an additional data point for feeding into targeting and navigational systems.
The main distinction that sets the Limelight R40 apart from traditional radar and sensor suites is the proprietary Data Computation And Extrapolation Engine (DCEE). This suite of computers takes in the Raw Feeds of data from Radar, Optical and Infrared sensors, and correlates data internally before converting the data for use by combat and navigation systems. DCEE can identify and track sensor readings up to 15 Kilometers, and Deep Scan capability up to 4 Kilometers. The DCEE Heuristics and Analysis Software (BETA) can also identify sensor ghosts commonly associated with common Sirian cloaking technology.
The R40-N is a Modified Variant modified specifically for the RM-2A "Storta" class destroyer, and is reinforced for combat operations.
Faction Relations
Internal Brief: Given we are independent, it does not mean we don't have friends, or lasting relationships with various groups within Sirius. Some associations exist solely for financial benefit, some have more meaning. The important ones are listed below.
Natio Octavarium: Allied
As the successor to the Vagrant Raiders, The Natio Octavarium sits in a very unique place. The Natio Octavarium has been instrumental to the reconstruction of the Nightmare, and have offered nothing but good will. To that effect, Octavarians are considered the highest and most important allies we currently have.
Junkers' Congress: Friendly
Putting it simply, the Junkers' Congress completed the vast majority of the repair work to get the Nightmare operational again. To add to that, their network of stations and resupply points rivals that of the Zoners, without the political nonsense that plagues most Zoner installations.
Outcasts/Hispania Imperial: Friendly
Given the Nightmare is an Outcast-sourced Destroyer hull, its necessary to play nice with the leaders of Malta. However, that's not to say this relationship is entirely one sided in our favor. Hispania Imperial has been very generous in their contracting support, and without their support our list of friends would dwindle very quickly.
Technocracy of Auxesia: Hostile
Discussions are underway for the Technocracy to provide us with an ongoing contract to harrass the Crayter Republic and Bretonian Armed Forces. While their distain for Outcasts and the Cardamine Trade are concerning, it seems possible that helping one won't hurt the other. This relationship is developing, and it has been made clear if the Nightmares' crew or hired help witness direct aggression against Outcast forces any contracting will be null and void.
Update 11/15/827A.S.: Despite negotiations, Technocracy vessels have engaged Hispania Imperial forces in the presense of MCS-Nightmare personnel. As a result, all negotiations and contracts have been terminated. Auxesian vessels are hereby classified as hostile.
Crayter Republic: Openly Hostile
The Crayter Republic has openly challenged Malta's dominance in the Taus, and Hispania Imperial has provided an open contract against Crayter Republic vessels. Additionally, The Crayter Republic has deemed MCS-Nightmare crewmember Lenny Petteri a "terrorist". As a result, Crayter Republic ships have been designated as priority targets. They need to learn that attacks on one crewmember is an attack on all.
External Assets
The Nightmare is far from a one-ship lone wolf that often is associated with Freelancer tagged independent vessels. Listed below are Ships that are attached in one way or another to the MCS-Nightmare.
More Than Enough - BK-65 "Serenity" Class Transport
The Aptly Named "More Than Enough" functions as the Nightmares' in-situ repair and replenishment vessel. Crewed by a handful of Engineers the More Than Enough contains all the manufacturing equipment necessary to fabricate and repair items that can't be fixed onboard the Nightmare.
Apparition - Scimitar Light Fighter
The Personal Ship of Nightmare crew member Lenny Petteri, "Apparition" serves as one of the reconnaissance and forward combat support vessel for the Nightmare.
Tormenter - Waran Heavy Bomber
Heavy Support Bomber flown by a few crewmembers onboard the Nightmare and serves to augment the Nightmare's offensive weapons capability. "Tormenter" can also function as an armed reconnaissance vessel in high intensity combat environments.
