I have created my own server and it is running on my own laptop, the one I also use to play Freelancer. It is meant for internal use only, it won't go public. The problem so far: my son cannot access it. He even cannot ping the IP address I see in the Discovery launcher. I set the "Make Your Server Internet Accessible" option.
The questions:
- What do I need to copy if I want to move the data of this local server to a dedicated one? With the data I mean the created characters and even a base.
- To upgrade the base I need a Blue-print, I think. Or not, in this case? If so I expect to add it as cargo to one of my ships. But what is the commodity code?
- Is there a way to tell my server to add some more NPCs to the game? There are some but I wouldn't mind a bit more.
Are you and your son playing over LAN or over the Internet?
I think with the way the whole thing is setup now you need to connect to your server IP directly using the -s1XX.XXX.XXX.XXX:2302 argument in the launcher.
Also make sure you got that port 2302 open and a firewall rule added.
Unless things have changed since I was around, the launcher will actively block connections from being passed to the game. (aka -s does not work in the disco launcher)

Thank you for your answers. We are playing on LAN anyway. We'll try out tomorrow because my son is working now.
Regarding the Blue-print: I just initiated an upgrade and no Blue-print asked
I searched both DSlancher and FLserver but couldn't find the button or option for it. Google showed me a thread on the Discovery forum handling DirectPlay and it mentioned a BAT file but nothing found.
Go to Control Panel / Programs & Features / Turn Windows Features On or Off (on the left) / Scroll Down until you see "Legacy Components" then click the "+" and you should see the DirectPlay as an option there.
