CAMBRIDGE - Representing a less-portrayed region within the Kingdom, Planet Cambridge has long been the "bread basket" of Bretonia and one of the main location where refugees - in particular those belonging to the lower classes of society - took shelter during the Gallic War, fleeing from the onslaught caused by the ruthless invaders.
However, despite the war's end having taken place almost 3 years ago, the government has repeatedly refused to adress the issue of the lower class citizens on Cambridge and New London, at times acting directly against them via brutal crackdowns on protests and marches demanding more assistance and funding towards finding an end to this crisis.
Furthermore, the already-present population on the planet is becoming a crisis of its very own - many families are forced to share their residence with others, working hard to make a living in the slums surrounding the planetside metropolises. A similar situation is unfolding on New London, however, realizing the dire state circumstances, the government acted in advance and declared a state of emergency on the capital, a move regarded by both the populace and non-governmental organizations as "unnecessary" and as a "move towards consolidating the power of the military".
Opinions within the parliment itself are just as controversial due to the nature of Bretonian politics; The Green Front party has supported many of the propositions and attempts towards establishing a course of action towards fixing the issues of the overpopulation crisis on the Kindom's planets, however the other parties have abstained from providing their support on the matter. Several others, including the Whigs, Crown Royalists, along a plethora of other, small, political parties have spoken against the proposed acts, stating that "such attempts threatening the security and stability of the Kingdom must not be acctepted by any". Up until this hour, their representatives have refused to give additional comments.
To end today's article, and as mentioned in the previous week's broadcast, we covered the topic of the recent Liberty-led offensive within Magellan and Kansas. The Navy's Admiral Brandt has made a public adress stating that he expects "Insurgent forces to be destroyed within less than a month". Our reporters contacted military analysts and thus far have concluded that the promised defeat of rebels is, at best, questionable, in part due to the nature of the rushed offensive.
Several officers, acting under anonymity, have revealed that the main problem of the offensive was the lack of support units dispatched alongside the main units. Another frequently-mentioned issue lays in the growing reports of ambushes - mainly caused by Xeno cells - on Liberty Armed Forces convoys passing through Pennsylvania and headed for Kansas, with a number of incidents even leading to the capture of modern military equipment by Xeno forces.
The situation in Magellan is much different, with the Insurgent military presenting an almost-fanatical defense of their home system against another small-scale attempt to break into Vespucci itself. It is unclear how long the Liberty Armed Forces can maintain such a high casualty conflict raging on for, but what is certain is the high rise in criminal activity following the redeployment of many units from systems such as California and Colorado.
We will bring more news in our next broadcast, stay tuned!
