Quote:3.1 - Players are considered to be ''PVP Dead'' if they die during a PVP encounter or dock while hostile combatants are within docking message range of other players. A "PVP Dead" player must:
Leave the system the fight took place in, not carry cargo, and not engage in any interaction for one (1) hour unless provided otherwise in-game ("PvP Death Period"). Other players must allow a PVP Dead player to leave the system.
Not re-enter the system they died in on or attack the player(s) they died to on any of their characters during the the PvP Death Period.
2.2 - Attacking others without roleplaying first is not allowed. Players must be given reasonable time to react to hostilities.
Consequences: I know you guys feel like you've been picked on. It seems like everyone logs on for the sole reason to take you guys out. Correct or not, there is a reason for this kind of treatment. When a faction becomes official, a higher quality of RP is expected from them by the community. Community members can rightly expect some sort of RP from you when they encounter you ingame. When your members violate basic rules of engagement as described above, the animosity towards your faction grows. To the community it feels as if the officialdom was unwarranted.
Now, I know you have a lot of newer players in your faction. I know it can become difficult to train newer ones the nuances of RP, as well as the detailed rules of this server. But, as an official faction, this is what you signed up for. Please take this warning to heart and spend the time educating your people regarding the rules, particularly not re-engaging after being pvp dead (docking while hostiles have engaged and are nearby). Also, providing RP prior to attacking.
As I said, I know a lot of the players you have are newer. Please listen to the more experienced players in your group as they try to help you. No one can deny the activity you bring to the server. That is awesome. But quantity does not outweigh quality.
If you require evidence, you may request such via PM from a Staff member. Only the accused or an official faction leader of the accused person's faction may request such. Once you have the evidence, and if you wish to dispute it, you may post in the Sanction Thread below. Do not continue PM'ing a staff member, as that will result in your Appeal being denied. If you PM a staff or post in the sanction thread and you are not directly involved, you are consenting to be subjected to the reprisal of my choice which may involve in game repercussions up to a ban. Blaming members of your immediate family, neighbors, friends, pets, and assorted Orcs, Trolls and any other legendary creatures may result in the use of GM Right #CTE 750AE
'I would like to be half as clever as some people like to believe they are' Life is full of disappointments, it is how we handle them that helps to define us, as a person
To the re-engaging of "DTR-Consuella:" while allegedly pvp-dead I'll provide these insights for now:
The screenshots come from one of many instances (over 30 mentions of him in DTR discord between may 2nd and 5th) during which Core|Paladin (the apparent author of the report) triggered the shield of the POB "Deterrence Sanctum", sometimes with the presence of an enemy fleet to which he then ran, sometimes without.
By the looks of the green docking message, he was already collecting "evidence" before an alleged violation even happened.
This particular fight started while I was just in the process of setting up a jackdaw with sidewinder+CD, which seemed the best counter against his strategy. Midway through the fight I noticed I had forgotten to buy CM and mine launcher. Since there was a lot going on and no one was focusing on me, I cruised away from the fight and docked on Tripoli to get at least a CM. There would have been closer options to dock (such as the multiple npc bases and pobs near crete), and there would have been more far away options (like skiros which would have been my next choice if Tripoli hadnt looked clear according to my radar 12k range cargo scanner). But Tripoli looked clear, I still had regens, and no-one had appeared to be following me.
Since a bugged docking message looked like the only explanation, Undertone/Ravena and me found out the following during tests with the green docking message:
The message shows up to everyone within 15k of the docking point, regardless if they, or the person who docks, even has 15k radar range. It's therefore possible that someone with lower radar range sees no enemies but still sends a green message to people who are invisible to them.
There is even proof that this is what happened in the evidence screenshot:
Below is part of the screenshot, with a 3x magnification of Tripoli Shipyard.
The report author uses graphics mods for background nebulas and therefore the exact location from where the shot was taken wasnt easy to find, and looks different.
But with some effort it is still possible by looking at the star constellations, and the viewing angle of Tripoli:
Remember the highlighted stars and the size of the "house" they form around Tripoli, relative to the size of Tripoli on the screen.
The nebulas look different because of the graphics mod, my screenshots look smoother because of different anti-aliasing and filter settings, but the star constellations and viewing angle of Tripoli match up.
I took several screenshots from different distances, but from the same angle. Check the target box for the distance between "reporter" and Tripoli:
At less than 10k, the asteroid part of the shipyard starts to render, so a distance smaller than 10k can easily be excluded because of that.
By comparing the size of the "House of Tripoli" star constellation and the shipyard, it can be said with a high degree of certainty that the distance of the person who reported me was about 13-14k from Tripoli when I docked. My ship has a 12k cargo scanner, so I could not see him.
Also note in the first picture (the one from the sanctionlancer) that the ships indicated as arrows at the top and bottom of his screen are behind him, so even farther away from the shipyard, with the exception of a corsair cap in front of him, which was friendly to me and probably in my group.
In order to avoid these situations in future, I recommend that you either:
- change all maximum scanner ranges to at least 15k
or
- or reduce the green message range to 10k, and give all scanners at least that maximum range.
I am DTR-Pablo.Hernando, the player who went against rule 2.2.
I am fairly new and haven't had many interactions with other players more than simple greetings in peaceful situations. I was aware of the PvP rules and was told to read them carefully when I joined DTR. Following this incident, I've re-read them again and have tried to memorize them all. Our leader has also collectively advised that we all check the rules together.
As a new player and with the active attack on the PoB which I was responding to, I forgot to RP before engaging a Core ship who was attacking the base and by doing that, I went against RP rule 2.2.
I will keep an eye on the rules and on my actions so it does not happen again.
