Just take piracy as a service - to make the day of the trader a bit more fun/enjoyable, bring in some empathy.
Right now we are headed on a path where the mod will purposefully be gutted of content, systems, routes and consist of forced chokepoints literally just so traders are forced into having to face pirates or not trade at all. While player list will remain in place. And that is pretty worrying to me

Not what we are saying at all. You can have good RP that is short. Here's more examples of good RP that is short.
There was an untagged pirate that floated around Liberty a couple years back. I did my normal flights between New York and Pennsylvania for Industrial Hardware. He never shadow logged, but he was always just around. He learned my schedule. Every day, I could almost pinpoint the minute, he would engage me at the jump gate. One day he needed a donation for some orphanage and another day he needed money to procure food rations for some ***** xyz fund. Every day he came up with a new fund that he needed donations to thanks to my coffers. I'd ask "Alright, what is it this time? The Rochester City Rogues need new uniforms?" or something like that, which he'd either agree or tell me it was for something else. Credits were exchanged, and he wished me a fine day. All within a minute. One day he no longer logged in. I miss him, I'm not sure what happened to him.
Another one was Aggressive Slurper. He'd get me in a trade lane or a jump gate and he'd *Aggressively slurps*. My pilot learned to always have a Sunbucks coffee on board so that he could *Sadly slurps* and then a transaction of credits would occur. Those transactions had the potential of also being less than a minute, but then we'd battle it out and have a conversation in slurps. This one is a bit outside of the box, but still... fond memories. Shout out to DS.
Doesn't have to be long, but there is a clear difference between that, making an impressionable game experience, than somebody logging in as soon as you enter the same system, "gib money or die" and then log out right away. At some point I ask myself why I should develop my own storylines and characters when there is less and less coming from the other side.
As was mentioned before, it is a two-way street and I'm not putting full blame on pirates. I've had my fair share of shouting matches with fellow traders because they give the rest of us a bad name. When the standard for RP is being watered down, then it forces players who play for the experience to choose other avenues for fun.
To you pirates and traders who put some time into a story or character development, I raise a glass to you.
