20 mil per 5ker. (1/3rd of 60 mil average profit). Those two for credit piracy.
As for cargo piracy, you can take as much as you can carry. Same goes for mining. Can ask the other side to mine for you completely, too.
It seems to me that you're keeping out the part where most ore trading is either purchased from a PoB or a miner, where the price varies from 5 to 20 million, best to worst case scenario. So, in a worst case scenario, the trader only end up with 1/3 in his pockets and, in case of cargo piracy - at a loss of money if entire hold is demanded. Take this into account when making demands.
And Werdi's making some relatable points.
Peace, being the distant dream it is, comes inevitably, and goes hand in hand with justice.
Cursed be the war.
Werdi's guide here is quite nice in that everyone can still profit AND have fun. The trader still makes some money and has a chance to be rewarded for fun RP, the Pirate still profits and either gets some fun RP for their time or they get to pew someone which is always fun in itself.
Also keep in mind how much the trader actual stands to make. It takes 15-20 mil to fill their hold, and they get roughly 50 mil on the back end. That leaves roughly 30-35 mil profit. If youre taking more than half that, expect to get avoided by people going forward.
The whole "take as much as you can carry no matter what" approach encourages traders to metagame with the player-list and log out to avoid pirates. Keep in mind that many traders are here for the RP as well, and will actively interact with, or avoid, pirates based on how much RP fun they get back. There are some pirate factions I will knowingly run into because they will RP back, and whether the demands are lower or not there was a fun interaction to be had. (XA-, DTR, etc). And then there are the other pirates who just consistently "Lets make this quick, 10mil and be on your way" with no RP or expanded interaction to be had from their end. (Wont flame names but we all know who some of these are.) Don't be that pirate.

I can list them on a single hand, that's how many I've met this entire year. And that even with me spending several hours a day in-game across the map. Traders are hardly here for roleplay and let's not pretend so. Most are extremely dense personalities who will choose logging off instead of interacting even one more time after you first meet them.

Unfortunately, that applies to many traders which I've treated with the above guidelines in mind or treated even much more nicely by demanding lol sums such as 250k credits. They still go out of their way to avoid you afterwards which is sad.
I usually take enough cargo to fill my Grendel. However, I recall some old Commune tasks requiring complete cargo destruction, in the old days. So we would empty most 5kers and destroy their goods. It's safe to say people weren't too keen on that.
the funny part here is there s a rule or something like that, that says that pirate demands shoud be reasonable, and here we see players that simply want to take it more than 1/2, leaving not profit for the trader or almost nothing and that if there isn't other pirate encounter, and even some want to take it all ... like some players already said and also me, traders have to pay for the cargo, cargo is not free, so when we speak about profit, some here "forget" what traders had to pay for that cargo . but hey ... like i said before nothing here suprises anymore so if admins aprove situations like this ... i would not be surprised. and about rp .. about 90% of the pirates i found are simply "give me X or die" so what trader would like to rp with people like that?! i already paid and already denied, and depend not the rat strengh but the rp that those pirates did, so i know very well how things work here and blaming only the traders for the "poor rp" .. is also very pathetic, but hey ... nothing more suprises me here
Tossing this live grenade around that's masquerading as a "ha! gotcha! i'm better than you!" argument ain't going to do anyone a favor. Instead just own up to yourself, grow a pair, and roleplay. It doesn't matter whether you're the trader or the pirate. I know it's hard but we'd be better off moving away from petty debates like these.
And no, just because you're flying a Zoner whale doesn't mean you're immune to piracy, the same way pirates shouldn't cry if they're shot at by lawfuls while getting caught.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of traders exist outside of this subforum, so these words are in vain. But that's the last comment I'll make here.
PS: Kudos to Tekagi for the guide, btw. Should be pinned somewhere.
see what i mean? who said to you i fly a zbt? i mean i do have one, that is basicly a bank ship. grow a pair damn .. so if .. a pirate says x or die it is my fault that i don't rp ... damn ... you almost got me surprise and i even can tell you my last encounter with a rat i got the X or die, i wrote more than he, and two more bombers appeard and i got a 1 vs 3 and noboby saw my crying like, so many here on the factions feedback, about how unfair this is, but of course it is my fault because you say it is my fault ok . no surprises here

Bet no one thought I'd chime in here. This is a long standing debate, what is reasonable in piracy. Let's think about this. A pirate is generally not a very nice person. Could they ask for everything? Sure they could on that thought level but this is a game. I have had people demand ALL of my cargo. Naturally I refused as I was going to lose it all anyway. I put up a fight and lost.
I have had people say "drop it all in space." Not to me but I was there when it happened. Anyone remember Joker? Yup, that was his thing.
I always thought the 1 million per 1000 was about right. Just my opinion. Oh yes, and I've had some pirates who gave some pretty good RP and got more than what they asked for. That's Doc Holliday's take on all of this.
well......at least pirates are better than Wild, seen one was friendly, he was friendly back, then did role play......."now scanning,......enemy" .....boom
hahahahahahahaha
