Planet Erie Pacified
MANHATTAN -With spirits in Liberty running high, the Liberty Government eagerly proclaimed that Planet Erie, in the Pennsylvania system, has finally been pacified of hostile elements. This comes after months of diplomatic hiccups made by the Zoners, with the final straw coming in the form of the destruction of a satellite in orbit.
Why did Liberty move to pacify the planet? -One question stands above all in this ongoing situation: Why did Liberty move in troops? To answer that question, we have to look at the events that have transpired in the system and its adjacent ones in the months since the military campaign in Vespucci.
The Republic's main threat in its southern region was the Insurgency, a military state hellbent on changing the status quo and bringing the corporations to heel. What it lacked in gear, they made up with high morale and a firm resolve, despite setbacks in Bering.
Nevertheless, the Republic made its move just over a year ago, beginning a costly campaign, spearheaded by the LNS Delaware that would see its main rival destroyed. It did not take long before the invasion transformed into a crawl, yet the Navy pushed on in spite of increasing casualties. While the military was kept busy in Vespucci, insurgent pilots were being evacuated to Erie, at that time representing a refuge from the conflict in Vespucci. In response, Police efforts were stepped up in an attempt to halt the number of transports coming in.
Still desiring to fight against what they saw as a threat to their survival, and with the Zoners unwilling to stop them, the Insurgents on Erie moved in to destroy one of the Republic's satellites in orbit, causing grave concern on Manhattan and leading to the present events.
How have the other Colonies responded? -In response to this move, the Bretonian Government issued both a public statement praising the efforts to bring stability to the system and a spokesperson further said that "Bretonia will stand by Liberty's side through these developments".
While New London is supportive of the move, as are other officials of both the Armed Forces and the Police Authority, the other governments of Sirius have been much quieter, releasing only droplets of information in otherwise unrelated statements. Therefore, it remains to be seen how Sirius will welcome this change.
