A few changes and new things happening the past few days:
Our wiki page is being redone. I would like to thank Hack for creating it a while back, and apologize to him for tearing it down piece by piece. -- Nothing exciting there, really.
Our website has been slimmed down and updated some -- Nothing too exciting there, either.
We have a faction forum -- A bit more exciting, but most of you won't care much. We are gathering our character biographies there, if you enjoy reading things like that. Also a few other IC and OOC tidbits. We're not interested in secrecy, so feel free to snoop (though we would of course greatly prefer it if you could keep your interests separate from those of your characters).
Hyung Soong, reavengitair, and Sovereign have taken charge of our Mining Department and turned it into a newbie-helping machine. They run mining operations in Colorado and Pennsylvania where they hire newer players and introduce them to mining, the mod, and the server. -- This considerably more exciting, though perhaps it hasn't been going on long enough to have generated much attention or opinions yet.
DSE activity has lapsed recently, but is building up again. The Pittsburgh Sweep event has largely stagnated -- primarily due to bad timing I think -- but we will be trying to revive it soon enough. Professed interest has been high so far, hopefully the trend continues and begins to bring more tangible success.
Something else that might benefit from feedback is our Recruitment Thread. It seems to be working reasonably well, but could it work better?
I daresay, always a pleasure to meet a DSE. I think whomever I met at the New Tokyo Gate remembers our mandatory escort service to Hokkaido. Was really a good bit of RP we engaged in. I really look forward to your visits to Kusari. Truly, a good example to the server and a fine group of people.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
Thank you, Baconsoda. I appreciate the feedback, even if I still haven't been able to figure out who that specific culprit was.
Our faction forum is getting a bit more activity now. Of most interest, perhaps, is the In Character section which now contains a number of biographies, journals, and such.
We have a handful of new members, as well, and I am interested to know how those of the community who have encountered them view their behaviour. If there is something that can be improved, I would rather set them on a right course sooner rather than later.
Tonight I sat up to rethink the faction somewhat and rewrote primarily the organizational parts of the Faction Status Post.
In the spirit of apparently (but not actually) complicated systems with no real meaning (courtesy of Ben), I threw out point-based ranking. It was working well, but it was not for us. To replace it I added a list of titles formatted not quite as nicely as similar lists in other factions (I blame Wordpad). These titles mean little but are easy and fun to glue together and flaunt. Liberty now has a Head Colonel of Security Operations, Baltimore Division, the title held by Klaus Klemmer who has already began imagining situations in which to strike awe and respect into his foes not with dreadful flashes from his terrifying Griffin but with a mere mouthful of words!
Two million you say?
In the name of Liberty, I, Head Colonel of Security Operations, Baltimore Division, bid you cease and desist, scum, with a commate threat!
I am glad, in fact, that I do not play Klaus Klemmer. I am content with MIP -- Most Important Person. Also: Chairman of the Board, President, Superintendent, Foreman, Owner, General Manager, Head Supervisor, Treasurer, Senior Director, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Analytics Officer, Chief Business Development Officer, Chief Comunications Officer, Chief Creative Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Science Officer, Chief Strategy Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Cake Officer, Chief Visionary Officer, Chief Interhouse Officer, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Investment Officer, Chief Networking Officer, Chief Performance Officer, Chief Learning Officer, Chief Privacy Officer, Chief Process Officer, Chief Security Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Knowledge Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, Chief Intellectual Property Officer, Chief Data Officer, Chief Business Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Accounting Officer, and President.
Am I sidetracked? How do you feel about that? Has your neighborhood upstanding (courtesy of Sprolf) corporation taken too much of a turn toward the light and confusing and frankly quite loony mannerisms of the people of the Land of Flat Stones and beyond?
I don't expect much, in the way of answers, but to prove my appreciation of any answers that I may get I will now go and read Bacon's two stories and then give him feedback on them.
Yeah I just read the new faction post and I approve of it a lot. Your ideas in that sense are very close to what I want with Cryer - a huge amount of ranks and titles, reflecting the byzantine way these galactic corporations must be run, along with all the honorary titles bestowed upon people for various corporate maneouvreing reasons. But all the while, not having an impact on gameplay, not forcing people in to Rhinos and harming their fun. Just something for players to latch on to and run with for their own character's RP benefit if they so desire.
As for being sidetracked, I think we talked about this when the idea first came up. It does have a slight tinge of making the faction your personal plaything, but the fact it's a purely in-character move, with no change to gameplay should nip that. Plus I mean, it's your faction anyway right? The reward for taking charge of the project is the fact you get to control all these little things. If it turns someone off the faction, it might well turn someone else on to it, someone who would no doubt have that element in common with you. Plus, people like being promoted, even if it means nothing. All my little Cryers were running round Skype pestering me to assign them ranks in my similarly convoluted and pointless rank system.
The light and confusing. Maybe, but if any of you have worked for big companies, you'll know it's really not that far from the current actuality. DSE and Cryer are just more au fait with their own existence, I think!
Id like to compliment him for RPing it fully, was a pleasent experince all around.
DSE is deffinitly not on my 'antagonise for their cargo' list, especily if this resasonable dealing with resonable pie rats continues. (when it comes to the unreasonable pie rats..... feel free to be unreasonable)
Sprolf may have the sabre these days, but I'll the have the head of any captain in the Liberty commercial fleet flying our flag who doesn't act deserving of praise such as this.
Nevertheless, we keep a record of things such as this in our Book of Greatness. This will be your second entry, not counting the ones I have slighted you by not recording!
