It might be cool to have a weapon similar to the Ion cannon of star wars. It was made for disabling ships as if it was using E.M.P.
But ships that could use this weapons would only be Interceptor fighters (Read the thread about it here) and this kind of ship couldn't use any other type of weapon.
And it would be nice too if that ship had some sort of CD but that would completely render thrusters useless. So it oculd be used to take some ships prisoner.
And it should not be available for pirates.
It could damage the energy of the enemy ship, so it would be very good for intercepting pirates or other enmy ships that might not need to be destoyed.
The concept is an interesting one , but I'm afraid that could lead to some major annoyances... Such as , say , a gang of lolwutters imobilizing anyone they see by draining their powerplants dry.
So , draining powerplants , unless VERY well balanced , bad idea...
Draining the thrusters however seems like a good idea. It would greatly reduce a pilots capability to manouver in a dogfight...
Yeah but if we stop making new things because there are going to be people who will abuse it, we're not going to be making anything new anymore.
And if it's restricted to police, people won't abuse it. Even if they try to, they'd have to buy the proper ship ( if the idea of making it only available to a new kind of ship is taken) and buy the thing. Anyway they'd get sanctioned.

My point exactly, people will abuse the power of the ''ion cannons'', so it shouldnt be used
I think pulse guns and the assorted EMP weapons we have are close enough, since I assume they work by disrupting the shield generators power and that the rest of the ships is shielded well enough to not be majorly effected by the pulse.
All shieldbusters do damage to the power level of a ship once the shields go down.
Just not enough to be of note in a fight, particularly against capships.
