***COMMUNICATION TO THE ADMIRALTY***
***BAF LEXINGTON: CAPT. JULIUS HARRINGTON***
***LOCALE: TAU 31***
Regarding Dr. Vannacut sir.
While it seems the damned Kusari are closing in all around us, my spirits were still high until this communiqu? crossed my desk.
It seems that our esteemed ships Doctor has taken his option to discontinue his service in the Bretonian military due to his Liberty citizenship.
While I cannot vouch for the mans personality (I have found him to be a morbid and often duplicitous individual, with little value on peoples emotions and more than once have seen him turn on a smile or use a regulation outside of its intended meaning to get his own way all above board of course, which bothers me even more), his record is outstanding, it seems his detached demeanour serves him and my men well.
I often found myself wondering if the man should have turned his hand to Law rather than science
But I digress, while I can give a glowing recommendation of the mans skills (our above average casualty recovery rate attests to that), I would prefer a replacement medical officer of Bretonnian stock in his stead, not some damned Liberty turncoat who flees at the first chance he can!
The rest of my requests will have to wait sir. It seems a large Kusari taskforce has been detected entering the system. Am forwarding tactical details to you now

Vannacut? Are you listening to me? We need a surgeon immediately!...
The shuttle jerks as I leave the dying battleship behind
Damn you Doctor! DAMN YOU! MEDIC! MEDIC!...
The same dream again, the same voice screaming at me over the shuttle comm. Dream? Should I say nightmare. That final day I walked away from my military career still haunts me. Not because of guilt I might add (I was Liberty Military after all and I had no business being on secondment to the Bretonian Military), due to the fact that if I hadnt left at that time, well I wouldnt be sitting here today, furthering research into the alien threats towards mankind, conflicting interests aside after all, Liberty isnt at war with Kusari and has no business encroaching on their politics.
I often ask myself, did I trade in one death for another? Maybe, its hard to say, becoming an independent researcher did have its bonuses. Not having a political agenda or face means most people ignore you and leave you be. Of course, there are those whod kill you for not taking a stance but they seem, thankfully in the minority.
So here I am, on board my research vessel. Out in the hind end of space, looking into the organisms colloquially called Nomads by the uneducated a fitting epithet for a species with seemingly no regard for boundaries and laws.
We arrived in system a few minutes ago and it seems that having travelled here, there is little to research, initial scans show a barren world and a trinary system of stars. I suppose if I was an explorer of phenomenon or stellar cartographer Id be wetting my trousers right now for finding myself here but alas it seems that my journey was a bust. I may get a good price for the information collected but for my work it is relatively useless
Right it seems our deep scanners have detected something of value, once I have verified it is of importance I shall return to document my findings here.

It seems the old adage be careful what you wish for is correct.
It is with great regret that I must add to my personal log that Ive lost my ship and crew due to a Nomad attack. I awoke a few hours ago and am still getting information regarding my miraculous escape. One thing does trouble me though, as far as I can remember, the last face I saw, was that of my medical intern banging on the escape pod glass as I sealed it shut and settled in to escape. Shame, she was a promising student.
Still, it seems that my days of independent work will have to be put on hold; I have secured transport to Curacao for a rest.
Well deserved I believe. I think it would also be prudent if I look at the options open to me once I arrive there. Independence does have some drawbacks after all.

Well, its been a while since Ive updated this log. To be fair my stay here has been uneventful in the most part.
Hobnobbing with the elite that pass through here has been dull, besides the odd female who takes an interest in my tall tales and especially those of my excursions into the outer systems but these are not conquests to be recorded for prosperity.
One thing does prompt me to write in here though; I recently had an encounter with another man of medicine called Mr. Betchell, who works with Cryer.
It seems that they could do with a man of my talents on board and whilst this flattery is tempting, what is more tempting is that Id be covered by insurance and also would have someone guarding my back this safely satisfies my self conserving nature whilst allowing continued research into those items and life forms not of human origin/connection.
On a side note, it seems they have a vested interest into discovering a new form of Cardamine, sans the harmful side effects associated with the substance.
Ive got to say, the promise of immortality from a drug with no side effects is more than I could have dreamed.
To this end Ive acquired a Luxury Yacht (you have to make a good impression and my military pension is more than ample for the task) here on planet and intend to begin work for Cryer as soon as my application is accepted and I am well enough to travel.
