Friends, Colonials, countrymen, lend me your ears!
As every growing nation, we evolve and inevitably repeat the mistakes of our forefathers - democracy was a failure for the very reasons it treasures. Earth Civilization eventually didn't stand a chance against the more advanced alien entities we are encountering till this day. Individualism so prized by democracy created a false sense of security for all of Humanity - scientific progress wasn't nearly as rapid as it could have been and the war between the Alliance and Coalition while providing a brief acceleration, it was too little and too late as it turned out.
We all came to the Tau systems either to find a new home, get away from our pasts, start over, yet on every step of the way we encounter obstacles on the path towards our collective goal. We face the deadliest and most cunning of pirate organizations, stiff competition from the houses, not to mention petty crime.
Take a look at yourself, Colonial. What do you see? I see a scarred veteran, a professional soldier, before, during or after having performed his duty for The Cause. The group of dissenters who wish to take away the power from the Fleet and style themselves as democrats fail to notice one, but crucial flaw of their goal. Democracy is about representation. Since each and every Colonial Citizen had to earn that title in the heat of battle, it is only logical, that each and every government member has a military background. Who if not a soldier will loyally represent the interests of a nation of soldiers?
"Then why are there people who don't like it" you ask? MICE is your answer. An acronym originating from intelligence services and meaning "Money, Ideology, Conscience, Ego" - those are the four most typical motivations of a defector. Think about it... A government job is usually comfortable. The human mind is often prone to manipulation. As soldiers we sometimes do things we would rather forget. Oh and... Everybody wants to be special.
And as per the "treason" part. If you take a look at History, dear Citizen, those nations which erected monuments only to tear them down soon afterwards rarely played a significant role on the global scene. For us, for you, for your government - the only thing that matters is the course laid down many years ago by people long dead, yet living on as wise words, retold time and time and again. We neither erect not tear down monuments. But some people want us to. Will you help them, Citizen?
