I am sorry, but BSG is not "a plug" for holes in Disco factions. We RP as fighter/bomber wing, and doubt any of our members would go for transferring to BMM traders. I'm sure removing BSG out of the way would "solve all problems" for Outcats, but objective of this tread is to solve problems of the BSG and our RP, not of the OCs. We admitted members that liked to fly fighters, and forbid them from using capital ships, and now we're supposed to make them fly traders so mollies and such would have someone to pirate? Thanks, but no thanks.

Starbutt, are you telling us that BSG possesses not even a single transport or freighter that funds BSG activities? Somehow I doubt that is the case. If you haven't noticed, IMG is the smaller, independent break-away version of BMM. If IMG is not objectionable to you, then BMM is not much of a stretch.
If you do have transports, switching them to BMM instead of IMG will have no impact on the amount of credits you can raise with them. Likewise, refocusing your trading to emphasize Bretonia can be just as profitable as whatever you are already doing. The point is not that you would then fully fund the piracy of the UOG and NLH. The point is that having an active clan in Bretonia will attract other independent traders.
Regardless, every Corporate faction (including IMG) has escort wings of fighters that escort their traders. No where did I suggest that BSG sell all their fighters and fly Transports exclusively. The Trader ID's all state that they permit hunting pirates. BSG could provide escort not only to their own traders, but also to the independent traders that could then begin frequenting Bretonia.
With UOG, NLH, Corsairs, LH, and LR surrounding Bretonia, there will be no shortage of action for your attacks ships.
I am not suggesting that BSG lose anything. I am suggesting that BSG emigrate to a less populated region, which is exactly what human beings have been doing throughout our existence. In Bretonia you will gain more enemies to fight, not less. You will also gain enemies who actually want to fight you, instead of imposing yourselves on the Outcasts in Alpha who apparently are sick and tired of your incursions.

Really? Then why did you initially choose IMG, if not because it was way up on the outskirts where there was a hole in the faction community? You've been there a long time. I suggest that it is time to relocate and expand. That is good for you, and it is good for Disco. This would reflect the mainstream acceptance of the BSG refugees by the rest of Sirius. That is a maturing element to your ongoing roleplay, not a limitation. It reflects the development of BSG from an alien group of people treated with suspicion by the rest of Sirius, to a group of comrades and brothers.
If you aren't willing to be a part of the Disco community and only want to play by yourselves, for yourselves, according to your own criteria without any regard for how that affects anyone else, then it is time for you to go start your own server where you can play without being bothered by the rest of us. If you are going to play on the same server as the rest of us, then a refusal to compromise in order to accomodate the gameplay of others is nothing less than selfish.
What I have suggested is actually AGAINST the interests of The Lane Hackers because we have more than enough BHG, Mercs, and other lawfuls coming after us already. If anyone stands to lose from my suggestion, it's my LH clan, because we would then be sandwiched in between BSG and the hostile forces that we already face. But making things more difficult for us isn't my primary concern. The good of the server is.
I suggest that you thoughtfully explore the possibilities. I have given you an option that opens more opportunities for BSG while benefiting the server as a whole.

Xoria, maybe my answer will satisfy you a bit more.
1. Most BSG members joined BSG because they wanted to help against the Outcasts, and most of them voted no on this subject.
But, it is not our goal to kill as many Outcasts to satisfy our needs, so we considered a bit more.
2. It would be totally against our RP to go to BMM because CR would become our enemies.
Why is it against our RP? Because Colonials don't fight each other while Cylons are threatening their existence.
Especially when it is said that we share the same roots.
So, your idea itself might be good, but BMM is a bit too much in it.
Maybe another faction, yes. That is why we are still considering what to do.
3. It is very hard for one faction to totally change itself, to take former enemies for friends, and former friends for enemies.
That is why most of our members disagree on such a decision.
If this idea was suggested some time ago, while we had only 3 members, it would probably be accepted.
Now it most likely won't be.
4. CR guys themselves said that they don't act that much in Tau-23 and 37. They don't guard Tau-23, while they are interested in defending their home (Tau-44).
Yes, they help us whenever they can, but still we are there to do the main job.
So, we aren't actually overpopulating one area, we are filling one empty.
Now, just to mention a few more things about our history.
When old BSG fell apart, only 3 of us left in it.
Three of us decided to go to BS Hood in Dublin, as a new base.
When we got there, we were asked by UOG to be neutral with them, because they have enough problems with QCO already.
We agreed, because we had a common enemy - QCO.
QCO were almost never online, we were flying around Dublin, doing nothing.
After some time, we were called back to Java by UKMG (United Kingdom Mining Guild), and we accepted.
Now, it makes much more sense to me for UKMG to be rebuilt, and their name to lead them to BMM, instead of IMG (they are/were IMG).
Don't get me wrong, your idea is good, as is your wish to make something out of us.
But simply i don't think it's doable.
We would have to delete 3 months of our RP and start all over from the scratch (old BSG falling apart, we are taking BMM side, etc.).
After all, just by staying BSG we would still be flamed by most of the community for our roots.
So, problems would mostly remain.
We would help the community (as old BSG did when they filled the gap by taking IMG roll), but we would still be hated and flamed for our name only.
One more thing i have to comment.
Quote:If you haven't noticed, IMG is the smaller, independent break-away version of BMM.
IMG is a lot bigger then BMM, and the reason for that is exactly their independence.
Same for GMG. IMG and GMG are pretty much the same in size.
BMM isn't even close, they act only in Brettonia (while IMG has bases near all Houses, Taus-Kusari, Cambridge/Newcastle/Dublin-Brettonia, Freeport4-Liberty, Freistadt-Rheinland).
BMM has no weapons of their own.
BMM has no ships of their own.
Independence itself makes one faction to prosper. (look at the Zoners)
And that is why IMG was always more logical choice for Colonials. And still is.
Xoria, thank you for your suggestion, i really appreciate it.
And sorry for denying it.
More constructive criticism is always welcome, so shoot people. Suggestions as well.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed reading Xoria's post. Instead of getting engtangled in all the pros and cons stated so far he applied some lateral thinking and looked at the problems from a different perspective. That's really a refreshing insight and I do welcome it [respect].
But [and I'm sincerely sorry I have to use a but] that would solve only some of the problems we addressed here. It would not help with the main issue and that is what are exactly miners' guard jurisdictions and limitations. The same problems would persist even if we're BMM. Couple that with the attachment some members of the BSG have with their colonial background and you may understand why moving BSG would be very difficult.
That said I do think that is the best proposal for a new faction I've heard since I'm a member of Disco and I do hope someone will use that and the idea won't be lost.
well well what do we have hear i would like to make it know that UKMG is not to be rebuilt by anyone but myself. my new rig i got for cristmass had alot of trouble running freelancer abd all my members lost intrest BUT i will have freelancer running again soon and i plan to rebuild the UKMG with its RP intact (with alot of story writing) and i would gladly acept BSG members or what ever they are called now as i have been out of the loop for some time now.
if any of you would like to aid me in this plz send me a PM as i do check the site often just had no reason to post as i was out of the game.
Thank you for your time

I am rejunevating this thread to make a few comments.
I read all 15 pages of posts and at times it got a bit flamey - but I think this topic is very useful. All factions should ask the public "how are we doing? what could we do better?" Kudos to the BSG for opening up this thread.
I had been on the Disco for about a month when I decided to make an independent IMG character. That is when I began to run into both BSG and CR players. I noticed they flew ships from Battlestar Gallactica - but it didn't dawn on me that there back story was from the show until I read up on them on the forums later.
In the 6 or so weeks I have flown as an IMG miner, I have had many encounters with BSG and CR and both have been great in RP as the IMG security force. One BSG player said to me "we aren't miners". It would have been better RP to say: "We are the IMG security force, we don't mine, but the guild pays us to protect our miners and our territory." Every encounter I have with the BSG gets better. I created my character as a good excuse to explore in the Omegas and the Omicrons - as a IMG miner/explorer looking for good fields. My interactions with the BSG makes me slip up to the Taus frequently. My RP excuse is to make reports to the guild, etc...
So I have been pleased.
IMG security:
If there was ever a corporate or guild entity that NEEDS a security force, it would be the IMG. We are the 'cause' of the Bretonia-Kusari war and we are in a war zone - or at least cut off by a war zone. Our remaining bases in Bretonia are under potential threat of blockade or worse. I have seen Bretonian military players post threatening things about the IMG (not flames - but solid anti IMG RP rhetoric) So we need security. I am working on building up a new character that will be an IMG tagged/repped transport. I will need escorts.
Outcasts and cardi:
I agree that the cardi trade is not good for the IMG - but we must follow the rules - everyone HAS to scan other ships to verify ID. The BSG should not attack cardi loaded smugglers/traders. But I LOVE the bounty idea. That seems to be in compliance with the rules.
Non-FL sci-fi:
I don't mind the Vipers and the Battlestars. It doesn't spoil my immersion. If someone wants to fly a Viper out of love for the old or new TV show and they want to RP correctly in FL - then they should be ok. If they only wanna play Battlestar G, they should go elsewhere.
Thanks again for this thread. Good fortune to the BSG and those that RP with them and against them...
I dont mind the BSG faction itself. The 1 and only thing i cant realy understand as miners is why they actualy send attack forces. Fair enough if outcasts are attacking your traders then you need forces to defend them. As a mining guild shouldnt the only reason for having combat capable ships is to defend your Trading ships when attacked. In no way am i saying i would like to see the faction gone cause i dont to be honest.
People say they have no place in freelancer. Why? They fly ships like everyone else they trade like everyone else. And the only Clan thiere Battle Star RP effects is the Cylons. So were does it concern us. It dosnt if you ask me. I know when i attack the BSG they are miners to me not Battle Star Galictica.
So i think if they want to stay the way they are then we should let them be. We all have ideas on how a clan should be but the one thing we all forget is everyone is diferent. Whats good for you may not be good for me and so on
And as per ships - did ya see the IMG gunboat? Look carefully - it's got many things in common with colonial capships, but the general appearance is "drifing away" from the original. The aim is: make a line of new ships plainly for IMG, that would replace the strictly BSG vessels we have now. Especially battlestars.
Silent, so, you want us to sit in our Tau-23 and wait for you attack?
Basically, if you look on things that way, it would be in our RP to die instantly.
Why? Well, Outcasts are stronger. So, we need to die.
No thanks.
But, BSG is dying probably. I have no intentions to fight against this community any longer, so I gave up.
Everyone who was proudly wearing BSG tag is free to do whatever he likes.
Preferably join the CR/UKMG ranks.
I had a lot of fun in BSG, and they thought me everything I know about this game and server.
Most of them are in CR now, and they still can do some good things for you.
I also had a lot of fun fighting you Outcasts as well, I think we gave you a fair fight every time we met.
Hopefully, CR will continue with it's existence, because unlike you who never played with those guys, I know that they can do some good for this community.
Also, I was sick and tired of explaining to my comrades why can't we become official.
I still haven't got an answer from Admin group about what do we need to do.
I guess ignoring us was easier then discussing it with us.
And that was most probably the last drop.
I tried to do most things community demanded. So, for one, I ditched all capital ships (due to cap ship spam on Disco), and I'v learned quite a few people to fly fighters properly.
With a good approach, anyone can be convinced to fly a fighter.
And I am proud that some people out there do fly fighters/bombers in another factions, because they'v learned it in BSG.
It's just so that it takes too much of my time to take care about all these stuff. I play FL to relax, I can't possibly lead a faction as good as some people.
Like Lohingren said it : "...that's why you'll never be a faction leader":)
I guess what he meant was : "BSG will never be a faction again".
I am also sorry old BSG fell apart, we were definitely stronger together. Actually, I am sorry I had to see all those things.
I am still not convinced that was the best thing to do.
Though I did see how hard it is to fight off the angry community and Admins jumping down my neck for every little thing.
So, I guess I do understand you, Doom, now.
But, it's all behind us, so let's look forward.
I don't doubt I will be seeing you guys in space.
And thanks for the encouragement, Emerilst.
