In this discussion there are some people i heartily agree with, but some, well.... look at it this way:
BATTLESHIP= >'BATTLE'<SHIP
It's in the name! Its designed to strike fear into the VHF's(<---plz note the plural) that are trying to attack it. If that doesnt work, a BS should manage to take down at LEAST 25-50% of the fighters attacking it. A shield regen rate increase and capacity upgrade os a good idea IMO, and also giving it a better hull also sounds like a good plan.
Also, Liberty fighters are pants apart from the Avenger. The Defender looks nice, but is rubbish.
The LI Gunboat is going to get its ass kicked in 4.79 because of it's pathetic maneuverability. It won't be able to kill anything more than a Fighter. I strongly feel this sucks as the Gunboat is my fave class of ship. But now i may be forced into getting a cruiser instead.
The MarsFlyer is ugly. I dont like it. It unbalances the game and i thought this Mod was supposed to keep the 'feel' of vanilla FL. With a big creepy-sounding, green-goo firing tub that came from Mars? I dont think so.
Anyway, Ignore me if ya want, but i think that what i've said is best for the Discovery community.
A battleship should be the most difficult of ships to take down, regardless of the house that owns it. A battleship compliment should also cosist of escort fighters and gunboats as additional skirmish lines that the enemy should have to avoid or go through just to get to the main objective.
More so, it should take literally a full compliment attack wing to seriously damage a battleship, with a considerable loss (at least 50 %) of the attacking force.
When all is said and done, the attacking force should (in theory) have about 10-25% strength left to execute the actual attack on the battleship.
Refer to the attached photo shot of a custom battleship. (HAMMER_PB3) The Train you see above the battleship is an actual size comparison.
In a complete conversion mod, there is an option to equally outfit all houses with similar level weapons loadouts, shielding and armor ratings. In other words, if you launch off of Manhattan, you would see ships that would for all practical purposes match those of all the other major houses.
Then, the starting player for that matter would have a starting ship equal to the other house ships of that type.
I think this would eliminate the "ladder" effect.
