After 86 release players lost the possibility to set the view distance like it was able to do in FLMM. Is there any way to change it without it? I don't like to see lanes and most of the bases just after getting closer than 10 k?
This kind of modification is considered a cheat, that's why it's no longer allowed. Short answer: No.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost, from a dead man to a world, without restraint, unafraid and free.

I believe the draw distance has been limited in the exe; which means that changing it would most certainly be considered a hack... or a cheat.
If it's not in the exe, you can up the LODs on stuff in the inis (last I checked they were all set to 10k)... but this could also be considered a hack.
Either way, I think the anti-cheat would have something to say about it.
Because it impacts performance... in a minor way.
Some people use terribad PCs that can barely run FL, and thus can't handle long draw distances, which gives people on better machines with longer draw distances an edge.
I agree, it's dumb. Catering to the minority in a manner that negatively impacts the majority makes little sense, but eh.
If somebody is able to tweak the LOD range, then they can find and flank enemy assets while staying out of scanner range. Couple of scenarios I can think of: one is finding bases by making them appear across the system, another is finding ship formations. That's exploitng the game engine for in-game advantage.
I had a bit of a problem with the short draw distance today, just before server reset.
I was running for South Shields Refinery, so I could dock before server restart.
This was in my Bison, with a full load of...items on board.
I had almost made it, when at about 5 k out......
TWO Gallic Battleships pop out of nowhere and my Bison ceases to exist.
Now the situation is this.....
I could see the station at about 15k.... Those Gallic BS are darn near as big as the station, so why couldn't I see them?
Yeah, it sounds like I'm having a whinge, but really I'm just using this as an example.
My 'losses' were small, nothing that I didn't make up in the first half hour after the reset and a lesson well learned.... I'm not going back to that bit of space in a Transport any time soon.

I'm putting this down to a 'bad/unlucky spawn'.:D
Yeaaah that's annoying but it doesn't have anything with view distance.
