There was an old mouse emulator for joystick, I remember rigging my Logitec one in 2004 to play FL with disastrous results
Got me thinking though, with your implementation of keyboard mapped ship controls, it could be possible to bind the yaw pitch and roll to one stick and the aiming to another, which would be epic in terms of immersion, you will still suck at pvp though, no way you could be as precise as using a mouse

Hey guys, thanks for the positive feedback. I would hope that this control panel isn't breaking any rules, the "joystick" is a simple arcade jostick, and controls the W,A,S,D keys. So pushing forward is increasing throttle, while pushing left is strafe left, and so on.. This prototype was kind of expensive to build because I had to purchase all the initial tools to build it (dremil tool, drill bits, saws, etc.) Id say the total cost was something around $300 for all of that (plus or minus a bit, because then I also had to buy all the switches too). But the cost of the pieces pales in comparison to the amount of time that went into the design and fabrication.
I hope to make some more of these control panels, because I really enjoyed working on this prototype. There's already ideas floating around in my head on how to improve the current design, and implement different features.
You need an F1 button there.
A dedicated F1 button.
A red button under breakable glass.

I have one, upper right corner labelled "menu". It's just a normal small black button though. I was thinking about putting a "suicide" button with a switch that has a safety cover over it, just for fun, but figured there was really no practical purpose for it.
@ Hone, that's a good idea, hadn't thought of that. Might have to find a way to try and rig that up.
@ Zien. I'm actually a commercial pilot and flight instructor (hence my obsession with control panels over keyboards) are you one as well? Good luck with the custom cockpit!

Ignore that.... my original post somehow vanished. This what was left on my clipboard. So I am here to give the short version from my long winded explanation of my love for avionics.
Thanks for the luck. It's a original design for my combat sim I'm making based off my favorite childhood TV show!
