I think the main reason is because Karlotta puts in a lot of effort, which is kinda sweet (on a very obscure and minute level). Your attempts are generally pretty pathetic. Really need to work on that one.

I believe many of the problems could be solved by having each new player spawn randomly from a selection of newb-friendly restarts. This would spread the newbdom throughout the world, rather than squishing it all in liberty where it is such a large problem that the high concentration of lolwuttery from newbs influences other newbs into lolwuttery.

Already been taken care of. It'll have to wait for .87 though, so alterations to each capital system can come into play. We want to make sure new players have equal chances of survival and access to start-up profit mechanisms (like the helium mining) to make a good go of the game.

Although, actually, ore-mining is better than helium. A rhino can fill itself without a mining bonus on ore in a couple of minutes, and sell it for over 2 million without having to pay a miner. Since there are ore routes all over the place, newbs can access profit easily.
