Kaylynn launched her Sekhmet from Planet Akabat for her daily patrol. She paused for a moment after arriving in space and stared out at the system that has become her new home. She joined the Order in hope of avenging Derek Brook, the only person Kaylynn has ever had feelings for. Instead, she was put on repair duty with the occasional patrol of Delta. Today, that was going to end.
The bomber sped off on her usual patrol route. When it was in Delta, a safe way away from prying ears, Kaylynn opened a comm channel. A familiar, digital voice replied as soon as it was opened. "Yes Kaylynn? What can I do for you?" The girl hesitated before replying. "Smiles...Bring the Sunhigh to Delta. I'm leaving." "I understand." With that, the comm channel closed, and Kaylynn was left waiting in open space.
Within minutes, an Aquilon jumped into the system meters away from the bomber. Kaylynn docked on the Aquilon, and in a matter of seconds, it was gone again.
After her return to Liberty, Kaylynn decided to lie low and move in with Alexis Hunter. However, this meant that Kaylynn was doing next to nothing for half a year. Eventually, Kaylynn decided to ask Alexis what to do with herself. Alexis simply replied, "Join the Liberty Navy".
A week later, Alexis set up a meeting with an Admiral in the primary fleet so Kaylynn could explain her current state.
Kaylynn walks into the office. Instead of her usual attire, she's wearing a blue dress, trying to look somewhat formal
Alexis is standing to the side, herself in a black dress and holding a purse. She obviously was dressed up for something and had delayed her plans for Kaylynn's sake. Admiral Jerome Chaser was seated at the desk shuffling papers. He looked up. "Kaylynn...Raeligh?" Kaylynn glared at Chaser. "It's pronounced Rye-lee"
"Yes, Ryley..." He gestures for her to sit. "Lieutenant Hunter is listed as..." He looks for a paper, pausing mid sentence.
Kaylynn sits in the chair next to the admiral's desk. "She's listed as what?" Alexis gives Kaylynn a look. "Oh, right. Alexis is my foster mother " Chaser looks at her. "Ok." He sets the recently discovered paper down. "Now, before I go through the usual interview...I must comment on your...size...you are small for your age, and this is dangerous work." He said somewhat gravely. Kaylynn replied almost Immediately. "Physical size means nothing in a fighter. I've been a pilot for almost 9 years. I've piloted almost any ship class you can name." Chaser sighed. "Alright, alright." He put his papers down.
"Let's start with the Sekhmet you have in your possession. How did you come to posses it?" "I'm sure you've heard about what happened to Toledo, right?" "I have seen the images." He replied. "Well I was there. The Sekhmet belonged to....a friend of mine. After the battle ended, I returned to try and find him. All I found was the ship, with a missing cockpit. I salvaged the ship, repaired it, and I have flown it ever since" He sighed. "Right. A friend. Always a friend..." He leaned forward. "Very lucky, the cockpit was missing. Means he, and any connection you may have to the Order, is dead. No?" Kaylynn tensed up at the admiral's coldness. She was silent for a few seconds before replying. "I have no other connections with the Order. I doubt any of them even know I'm alive" He nodded. "I will take your word for it...backed by Lieutenant Hunter." He gave the woman a sidelong glare, obviously annoyed she was dressed in such civilian clothes in a military base.
"I assume you are of Liberty origin?" Obviously relieved that the subject left the Order, she replied. "Ethnically yes. I don't know where I was born, but I lived on Freeport 9 until Alexis took me in" "And when did she find time to go to Freeport Nine?" Chaser demanded. "She didn't, I came to Liberty" "Then she took you in after you returned home. How did you return?" "I was adopted by a Conference pilot. When he died, he left his ship to me. I knew the Omicrons were dangerous, so I came here where I would be safe" "And now, after losing your friend and being under Alexis' care, you have decided to join the Liberty Navy?" "Yes." "Why did you decide on the Navy? Why not, the LSF, or even go mercenary?" Annoyed, Kaylynn spoke a bit faster. "The LSF are elitists and Mercenary work isn't stable enough. Besides, I'll be able to fly beside Alexis in the Navy" He looks at Alexis, who shrugs. "Not many people would want to fly with their mothers." He said. "I know I wouldn't want to fly with my mother, bless her heart." "Why not?" Chaser blinks.
"Moving on. Have you passed a psych eval, as well as the physical evaluations?" "Yes, I have" "Do you understand that fraternization with the ranks can get you discharged?" "So I can't be friends with anybody? How is that going to strengthen the military?" "You can't go around having sex with everyone is what we mean." Chaser snapped. "Do I look like I'm even able to do that? The only people that would be after me is the ones that hang out around playgrounds" she snapped back Chaser scowled. "Then that covers everything. You will be given a routine physical during your initiation phase." He signs some papers and hands them over. "You're ass now belongs to the Republic of Liberty. Talk with the Quartermaster about getting your Sekhmet refit for Liberty operations." He looked away, dismissing them.
Kaylynn gave Alexis a look, not sure if she won or not, then walked out Alexis walked after her, then placed a hand on her shoulder. "You sure you want to do this Kay?" "It's better than sitting around your place doing nothing for the rest of my life"
