Lisa Jaeger is a young, Rheinland-born, former independent pirate turned Bretonia Armed Forces officer. She departed Bretonia with the other pilots of the 5th Sabre Resistance, and is now an independent freelancer. She is known to keep a low profile, but those who know her well insist she is one of the most skilled computer hackers and programmers in Sirius.
Personal Background
Early Life
Born "Liese Jaeger-Bonner" on Leipheim Base in Munich to Erwin Jaeger and Katrin Bonner. Her father was a Unioner officer of some note, and her mother was a freelance fighter/transport pilot. Her parents never married.
Her father was captain of a Unioner gunboat called the Nachtkrappe, which was atop the Rheinland Federal Police's Most Wanted list after it instigated the "Augsburg Massacre" in 807, when Lisa was only five years old. He left Munich with the police hot on his trail, and finally disappeared for good in 808.
Liese's mother stayed and took care of the girl, but her relationship with Erwin left her unable to return to society without a serious risk of being hauled into a police station for some unpleasant questions. At this time, she also found out that Erwin had amassed a large debt to a group of loan sharks, and that with his disappearance and presumed death, this debt had passed to his daughter, Liese. Katrin went back to work with the Unioners, in an effort to begin paying the debt off in Liese's stead. However, in 811 she was killed in action on a raid in Hamburg, leaving Liese without a guardian.
Unlawful Work
It was at this point that she was put to work by the loan agents themselves, at first learning and later conducting illegal operations on her own. Her sharp mind quickly became apparent, as she was able to deftly work her way through the most complex problems. She began to work more in technical areas, and eventually found computer hacking as a particular strong suit.
As she began to work outside of Rheinland space, her name was legally changed to simply "Lisa Jaeger". It it unknown whether she did this herself or was forced to do so by her employers.
She is now connected to a number of successful unlawful operations throughout Sirius, including the infamous theft of over three thousand neural net account numbers from Interspace Commerce's server bank. She also stole valuable files and a cloaking device prototype from Deep Space Engineering. In between major jobs, she honed her piloting skills and eventually was dispatched to pirate vessels using a personal Waran bomber that was lent to her. She never killed when she didn't have to, but was successful in a number of overt acts of piracy in addition to her other crimes.
Fortune Smiles
However, in late 819, an attempted piracy on Lisa's part in the Magellan system was thwarted by an off-duty Austin Goodman. Goodman, being a distinguished officer of the Bretonian Armed Forces, was curious about the girl's situation, and somehow managed to wring the entire story out of her. Goodman took pity on the girl's seemingly hopeless situation, and tried to convince her to see asylum with the Bretonian Armed Forces.
After a lengthy discussion with Goodman, James Arland and Janessa Carlton, Lisa was convinced to apply for the Armed Forces. She was accepted to the officer training program a week later.
A New Life
Lisa became a brand-new Ensign in the Armed Forces, and immediately showed promise. She defeated a member of the Reaver Mercenary Company in single combat on one of her first patrols, and amassed several more kills early on.
After working closely with Goodman and Arland, they approached her about joining the top secret Sabre Wing as their intelligence specialist. She accepted, becoming known as Sabre-5. She was a part of several of the wing's successful missions.
At this time, she also fostered a romantic relationship with another Armed Forces pilot, Naomi Woods.
Desertion
After a lengthy disagreement with Armed Forces high command, the pilots of Sabre Wing wound up choosing to defect from Bretonia, fleeing into the independent worlds so they could pursue their work against Gallia uninterrupted. The Armed Forces eventually settled to formally exile Lisa and the other pilots of Sabre Wing from Bretonia indefinitely.
The group based themselves off of Barrier Gate Station in the Coronado system, where they trained and began to work alongside the Colonial Republic against Gallia. It was at this time that Lisa completed building the artificial intelligence known as JADE.
However, everything changed when Austin Goodman, their leader, disappeared and was later reported as dead. Goodman's death was a serious blow to the group, and was especially devastating for Lisa, who had looked up to him almost as a surrogate father. Depressed and angry, Lisa departed Coronado to work on her own, leaving the rest of the group, including Naomi Woods, behind.
Alone Again
Lisa set out on her own, performing solo freelance tech-based work across the sector for a variety of independents and business interests. Some of the work bordered on unlawful, but that didn't bother her any longer, as her brief time with the Armed Forces had not left a lasting impression on her. With every successful contract her confidence grew, and her demeanor began to change from that of a scared, nervous girl to a confident, carefree woman.
In the middle of 820, she met back up with James Arland, who had been doing freelance mercenary work after the Sabres fell apart and had stayed in touch with Lisa since her departure. She and Arland headed through Liberty to Hamburg, where they began working to set up shop.
There, they executed a job with the crew of the Wayfarer, a freelancer ship. The freelancers captured a trading ship and sold the contents to the Rheinland Military, but James was injured in the process. They parted ways with the Wayfarer but continued doing other work in Rheinland for several more months.
Time in Liberty
Lisa resurfaced in Liberty in early 822, where she began working for the Liberty Navy as a contractor, along with James Arland.
