About

The Freya, currently under the command of captain Christian Burton , is a Rheinland battleship flying under the flag of Zoner Guards. The Freya’s objective is to maintain the status-quo in Zoner territories, and to protect Freeports from potential threats, as they might occur by the Coalition, the Nomads, the Wilde, and many others.

Building

This Bismarck-class ship was initially designed as a kind of „pocket“ battleship for Border Worlds; it's intention was to patrol these dangerous areas heavily protected by fighter wings. When Daumann Heavy Construction who was contracted to build this ship started to assemble it in 797A.S., the Rheinland Military stopped this project to review occurring issues with the communication units aboard - the Freya lost contact to her guard, including the battleship "Atlantis", more than once. The Rheinland Admirality imposed additional technical standard on this project, a sturder armor, a more powerful reactor, improved target-locking and tracking abilities, and the reengineering of the malfunctioning communication unites. DHC restarted the project based on this revision and christened it "Rhein". Thus the new Rhein-class ship based on the Bismarck-class introduced several improvements.Freya was the first ship in this line. In 800 A.S. during the Nomad War the construction work had been intensified. Civil and war ships started to disappear, and martial law has been established. In 801 A.S. due to the lack of necessary funds and also issues regarding material resupplying the Rhein Project was put on hold after 72% of its work has been finished. The ship was sealed and towed to the Frankfurt Jump Gate. About a year leater, when martial law has been removed again, the ship has been towed and brought back to the Order Shipyard for finishing the construction finally. In 802 A.S. the first successful test runs with the new engine started. In 803 A.S. it was officially launched with Ludwig Muller as commanding admiral aboard.

Battle History

803 A.S. - Due to serious problems related to the Red Hessians and other unlawfuls Freya was assigned to patrol Dresden. Two cruisers, the Altena and the Werl, and a fighter wing in addition escorted Freya. 808 A.S. - The wreck of the battleship Atlantis was found in Omega-15. The Salvaging team successfully found her black box. After decrypting the log experts told that the patrol Atlantis belonged to was devastated by a Corsairs patrol assembled from of a dreadnought and four cruisers. The Atlantis was not able to contact the Rheinland HQ because her transmitters were destroyed at the beginning of the battle. 812 A.S. - When several agents reported Corsairs preparing an invasion of Rheinland the Freya was relocated into deep space around Omega-15 in order to support the stationary battleship Schwerin there. Its mission was to patrol the area between the quadrants 3B and 5F. 813 A.S. - The following battle report can be reconstructed by fragmentary transmissions:

12:24 - Admiral Ludwig Muller dispatches the cruiser Altena and its fighter wing for a recon operation. 12:48 - The Recon wing reports contacts in 6C transmitting the image of an enemy fleet. Experts can determine a dreadnought, four cruisers, six gunboats and 12 smaller vessels. The recon wing was ordered to return to the Freya. 13:10 - The Freya fleet is regrouping in 5D. A reinforcements of six bombers arrives from Schwerin. 13:32 - Freya fleet is ready for engagement and approaches enemy on intercept course. 13:50 - The first volleys are fired from the Freya, focused on the dreadnought. 14:20 - The Werl is severely damaged by dreadnought. Reactor fluctuations are reported. 14:21 - The Werl disappears from the radar still issuing SOS calls. 14:40 - Two enemy gunboats collided, one was destroyed, the other was critically damaged, and forced to leave the system by the hole to Omega-41. 15:06 - The bomber wing destroys a Corsair cruiser and returns to assist the Freya, while the Werl has taken to many damages - she vanishes with a heavy explosion. 15:30 - Enemy cruisers focus their fire on the engines of the Freya. Freya is severely damaged. 16:04 - The Corsair dreadnought, although critically damaged as well, is still able to fly, but it is forced to leave the battle slowly, leaving behind three cruisers and the remaining bombers. In the meanwhile Freya is not able to move anymore due to damages at the propulsion systems. 16:45 - Weakend by many explosions during this long battle the Freya is finally torn into pieces. The engines are parting from her skeleton, the guns seize their fires. The remaining engineers are trying to turn the secondary power supply system on. The enemy cruisers focus their fire on the Altena. 17:06 - The Rheinland bombers destroy one enemy cruiser. The Freya loses the contact with the Altena and rotates around her own axis. 17:20 - The Freya crew manages to boot the secondary power plant. The weapon systems lock on an already damaged cruiser destroying it soon after. 17:21 - The remaining cruiser is forced to retreat through the Omega-41 jump hole. Enemy bombers are trying to approach the Freya and finishing her. The lower decks are all burning by now. 17:40 - The Altena returns, and the enemy bombers retreat. 17:41 - The Altena contacts Freya and initiates salvaging ops. 18:00 - Fires have spread all over the Freya; the Altena undocks and moves back to the Schwerin. 18:34 - Admiral Ludwig Muller reports Freya's situation to Rheinland Military HQ from Schwerin.

Reconstruction

813 A.S. - The wreck of the Freya remained on battle site, guarded by fighter patrols to prevent pillaging. Expert groups have been dispatched to check her state. The admirality still hoped to restore the ship with little, or even no costs at all, but the specialists had to destroy these hopes. The Freya was heavily damaged, 84% of the electric infrastructure had been molten down, the primary power plant had vanished completely, the hull integrity was very low, and armour was covered by many holes. The admirality could not afford it to repair the Freya. The situation of their funds did not allow that, so the Freya had been abandoned.

One of the Zoners, as known Christian Burton flying with an escort through the remnants of the Freya was interested in this vessel. He is well versed in ships, as well as know what the Zoners need a new battleship to protect the Zoners in Nomad space. He told The Zoners the "discovery", but not the first was Zoner who reported that they destroyed. The Freya Rumors spread that some Zoners who were running their trades through Omega-15 were interested to claim and rebuild the Freya, using the strongest battleship of Sirius as a symbol of their independence and for further researches concerned with a new prototype of the Jinkusu Juggernaut. Soon after the engineers at Livadia addressed the Admirality of Rheinland in order to purchase the remainders of the Freya. It was agreed with the Government connect witch Rheinland about buying the battleship. The Zoners, as well as the Rheinland were Interested in improving relations. The Zoners needed a reliable partner, as well as the broader market and selling at the same time, Rheinland was in crisis and they needed a powerful trading partners. The Rheinland military command was quite surprised since nobody ever dared to buy a Rheinland battleship. Many were against the sale of the vessel, rather it remains. Insisted that the Freya still has "Secret" equipment, but an acute problem due to lack of resources played their business. After long months of debating and negotiations both parties agreed on 160 millions Standard Sirius Credits for the Freya herself, along with 40 millions for the blueprints. In contract been described that the blueprints were provided only for the Reconstruction of the vessel RHM-1327 "Freya", as well as all the surviving "secret" equipment was unmounted.

814 A.S. - The 200 millions were transferred and the Zoners immediately dispatched a group of tughsips, guarded by two destroyers and some wings of fighters. The main man to restore the battleship was named Christian Burton. The ship was partially dismantled and three convoys had moved at Livadia Shipyard. Four months the Freya arrived at Livadia where the phase of restoration work started. Despite the fact that the ship was badly needed Zoners, they had to temporarily suspend the project, what is official person told the budget tall tale designed for such costs, they say that the whole project "Freya" were bitter opponents, but despite this, after much debate, project has been thawed and work to restore the ship went.

816 A.S. - The hull integrity has been restored, Electronic and mechanical equipment which was damaged removed. Only a small amount of weaponry was still functioning. Zoner engineers set up a new fusion reactor, which was more efficient than the previous. By the end of 816 A.S. All electronic and mechanical systems of ship were operational, the reactor was ready as well, and the armor has been fortified with an upgrade mark VIII. Also, the living conditions were improved according to Zoner standards.

817 A.S. - The first test flight of the new Freya succeeded. The fusion reactor was stable, and a full trip around Tirane has been completed without any problems.

818 A.S. - The Freya is ready, her weaponry mounted. First battle tests occur to check the navigation systems, the capabilities of the reactor under stressful conditions. Tests passed without greater issues. Only the fine tuning was left to be done.

Today - The Freya reconstruction is finished. Christian Burton is assigned as ship captain. The Zoners were called to discuss the name of new ship. But ultimately it was decided to leave the original name of the ship, in honor of improving relations between the Zoners and Federal Republic of Rheinland. Заголовок ссылки
