Dessau Station was initially intended to be constructed as a forward supply depot for the Rheinland Military at the New Hampshire front. However, the war's end made the project redundant. Instead of scuttling the station, ownership and administration was ceded to the Rheinland Police to begin patrols and vigil of the no-longer-secret Bremen system.
Dissident activity within Bremen has proven to be relatively uncommon regardless, so Dessau in part serves as a spaceflight facility for new recruits. In fact, it is rumored that patrols through desolate Bremen are considered "reward duty". Aside from training and supply, Dessau scans all passing traffic, sending warnings to Federal garrisons in the solar north of the system in the event of trouble.
