"I'm a freelancer sweet stuff, and I do whatever I bloody want!" - Leon Matthews to a female Kusari Naval Forces officer, upon receiving a demand to drop his cardamine.

Life Before Freelancing

Leon was born on Planet Cambridge, in the mid 794 A.S. His father was a Bretonia Intelligence Agent, who went missing shortly before the outbreak of the Nomad War. His mother was a professor at the university of "Eagle Creek", in a large town bearing the same name. He spent his early life right there, with a nanny taking care of him, due to his mother's inability to be home all the time.

Only during his teen years, he started to display his rebellious behavior. Skipping school frequently, fighting, running away from home and causing trouble in general. He switched many schools, but he always repeated his usual behavior. His mother had no other option but to send him to a juvenile correctional institution, several kilometers away. He found himself isolated from other people there, refusing to talk to the general population, except a chosen few, whom he considered friends, or at least trusted enough.

When his correction time was over, he decided to apply for the Bretonian Armed Forces, to him somewhat of a life long dream, to follow in his father's footsteps, even though all he could remember from him was flash memories and pictures. After a lot of hesitation from the Armed Forces' side, he was accepted, only to reference of his father's name, who was obviously quite well known before his disappearance. He found himself belonging there, everyone looking at him as they did on his father, but obviously avoiding to talk about his disappearance, even if the simplest of questions were asked.

Leon was puzzled by this behavior from their side, and wanted to investigate more about it, but often found himself lacking the time needed. He successfully completed many missions for the Armed Forces, both easy and hard. But unknowingly he found himself before the one, which would change his life forever. He was issued a bomber, and was sent to patrol the Cambridge system, with two fresh recruits. Leon had a bad feeling about that, for the sole reason that he worked best on his own, or rather he didn't have anything to worry about when working alone. They started off from Planet Cambridge, patrolling the lane to Ross Planetoid and Battleship Norfolk that stood in it's close orbit. They proceeded further into Grasmere Ice Cloud, to counter any Corsair threats there. Surprisingly enough, in the initial survey their long range scans did not detect any movement, so they proceeded further. As they went deeper, it became almost evident that it was a bad idea. At one point, one of the recruits suggested they go back, to which Leon responded for him to "shut his trap". As they went even deeper, they detected a large ship, of a kind they never witnessed before, it was a Praefect Corsair cruiser. As they sent data to the command on Norfolk they requested that they send reinforcements. Sadly the request was denied, and they were ordered to return home. Foolishly, Leon disobeyed that order and ordered the two recruits to follow him, believing that they could at last drive off the cruiser. As they approached, it was located near a jump hole, and showed immediate hostility, opening fire. Leon took evasive maneuvers and avoided the barrage of fire, but alas the recruits were not so lucky, they fell to the fire of the cruiser's advanced anti-fighter weaponry. After this, it left through the hole, leaving Leon there, to think about it...

Two months after that, Leon now resigned from the Armed Forces, sitting in his bedroom, thinking about what happened, eaten from inside by his guilt, at one point said to himself "F*** all this!", stood up fast, boarded his shuttle and headed towards the Tau systems only to be seen several months later, flying a Raven's Talon he named "The Starviper".

Life of Freedom

"The bloody hell are you all looking at!" - Leon Matthews to the bar patrons on the Barrier Gate Station who were giving him uneasy looks.

Leon's Raven's Talon, The Starviper.

As Leon asked around, on the Freeport in Tau 29, he came to find out about the Barrier Gate Station, located in a part of the Coronado system, which was isolated from most of the "civilized" world. He took his shuttle there, only hoping to get himself some fresh, strong, beer. As he landed on one of the docking wings, he saw a rather interesting place, it's sheer size impressive. He saw a sign for a lounge, the only thing that was on his mind at that point. He entered, with a somewhat of a cocky stance. Ordered a beer from a the obese bartender and took a seat at the center. He received many strange looks, both from the drunk Bounty Hunters, and some Rogues. At one point in became too much to take, at least for him and he yelled out loud "The bloody hell are you all looking at?", which was maybe not the best choice for such a situation. As they all stood up to kick his behind, he confidently stood up to try and do the same for them, trusting in his brawling days. When the little brawl was over, his "buddies" were laying down on the floor, him laughing uncontrollably, resting his bloody head on the wall while trying to light a cigarette.

As he was preoccupied with fighting the wall, two guards walked in and grabbed him by the arms. They drew him out through the door, and were dragging him to the center of the installation while he was unconsciously singing a jolly old country song and grinning. When they reached their destination, a nicely decorated door, with a sign "Administrator George Tinsley" over the top. They dragged him in, and placed him in the middle of the room on a wooden chair. Tinsley was sitting in his leather chair, behind a table, with two guards on his sides and a pretty attractive lady giving him a tender massage. Leon was expecting a one more beating, for causing trouble, but he was surprised when Tinsley said that he was impressed by his skills and wanted to give him a job as station security. He handed him a tissue, to wipe his face from blood, and started to talk about how he was just the same, a man without a home, a profit seeker. Leon was intrigued by his story, but in the end he refused his offer, much to Tinsley's disappointment. At the end of their conversation, Tinsley offered him a gift, a Raven's Talon, in exchange for Leon to return him the favor if it was ever required. They shook hands, and Leon left his office with two Guards escorting him, for another drink at the lounge, of course.

As he completed his marry drinking, he finally went to see his new ship, the brand new Raven's Talon, and it was a beauty. It was sleek, it was black, and it was sexy. After a long period of thinking (15 minutes) Leon decided to name his new baby "The Starviper". He loaded it with a few crates of beer, placed himself inside it, felt it's interior and it's controls, took a deep breath, and launched, to seek his own fame and glory...
