The first colonists found strange planets full of unknown flora and fauna, much of it indigestible or even toxic to human beings. As time passed, though, the colonists grew more confident about which indigenous life forms were both nutritional and flavorful, while some gene-banked plants and animals unexpectedly flourished in their new environments.
