Planet Tangier is a young, terrestrial planet orbiting it's sun at a considerable distance. It is a cold world with barely enough atmosphere to support life, but still largely burning under it's moderately thin crust. Large quantities of carbon and aluminium have been noted underground, surrounded by large, compressed oxygen pockets. Considerable iron, titanium, magnesium and other metal deposits have also been noted.

Tangier has been previously surveyed by Corsairs, before suddenly becoming part of Hessian space after the Casablanca offensive of 811 A.S. Hessian survey expeditions to the planet revealed an abandoned Corsair installation, indicating their plans for establishing a base there. The survey also found large amounts of minerals low under the surface. In 816 A.S. a second expedition was launched to the planet, this time in order to construct a mining facility. Until a docking ring could be built, the mining colony would launch and receive specially designed atmospheric craft straight to or from the planet's thermosphere, supplying the orbiting Viernheim base with minerals ready for export to other Red Hessian bases.
A barren Planet in the Omega 47 system, planet Tangier hangs isolated and alone but has however become an added source of tension between the Corsairs and the Red Hessians in their struggle for control of the the system. With the Hessians construction of Viernheim Base in orbit and commencing low level mining operations on the surface the planet has moved more firmly into the Hessian sphere of influence of the sector, although this control can by no means be described as secure and the Hessians try to maintain a vigorous defence of the area.

The planet was once the scene of a colonisation attempt by the Corsairs, although the settlement was known to have failed and was abandoned, attempts by the Corsairs to locate many of the missing colonists were unsuccessful and with no sign of them ever being found the colony and its inhabitants were considered lost. Further attempts at colonisation have been rendered impossible owing to the increased Hessian presence in the system.
