Lanzarote Station was originally built as a base of operations for the Zoner expedition that charted the Omega-49 system. Zoner surveyors had located mineral deposits on Planet Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote was designed as a storage and transfer point for resources brought up from its icy surface. After Gran Canaria was identified as being more suitable for preliminary colonisation, these efforts were largely abandoned because of the difficulties of mining and lifting materials from the arctic planet.
More recently, Lanzarote Station has expanded to become a trading outpost and refueling point for vessels that want to avoid the potential hassle of Gran Canaria, which has become the focus of conflict between local factions. For this reason, the Mollys prefer to trade here rather than at Grand Vistal Orbital.
