Saalburg is a recently constructed asteroid base within Frankfurt's Hausenfeld, in close orbit of the burning blue Frankfurt star. Its LWB founders were evidently eager to draw upon all spectra of revolutionary Rheinlander's business as it occupies a strategic location along what many local criminals term the "Frankfurt Bypass" far away from standard Federal patrols through primarily open space.

In early 824 the Corsair Elders, growing frustrated over the relentless Bundschuh assaults on Mindelo and subsequent delays in the project, evacuated their halfway assembled outpost and directed all of its defenders, supplemented by a large force from nearby Lagos, to eradicate Saalburg's defenses. The Elders came to a conclusion that despite its exposed location, capturing the fully established Saalburg would be a much better alternative than needlessly wasting pilots and, more importantly, ships on establishing a base in the middle of enemy territory.

The assault force was brutally effective at overpowering the unsuspecting defenders of Saalburg. Upon securing the perimeter after a short battle, the cretan forces began a boarding operation. Anyone who failed to escape onboard the few freighters and small transports launched before the encirclement faced a grizly end within the base's cramped corridors.

The station is now manned by the former crew of Mindelo Hangar, their previous post falling victim to a Bundschuh strike shortly after being evacuated, and a number of technicians tasked with repairing damage the base sustained during the assault. Many of the pilots who took part in the capture are still aboard Saalburg, trapped by watchful Bundschuh and Hessian patrols who destroy most ships attempting to flee while they prepare to evict their unwelcome guests. So far, only large and heavily defended supply convoys and Unioner aid have had any luck in breaking through to aid the entrenched troops.
