Scarborough Station was constructed by Bowex (previously known as Borderworld Exports) in the Newcastle System, during the dying months of 616 A.S. The station was established firstly as Bowex's headquarters in the Newcastle system, but also as the first step in Bowex's plans to establish themselves on the shipbuilding market, a task they set to with enthusiasm through the purchase of the blueprints for the "Gull" and "Albatross" class transports from Liberty as well as the production of the native Clydesdale freighter.

It soon became clear however, that were other, more profitable uses to which Scarborough to be put. Refining super alloys and high temperature alloys from ore mined on Planet Leeds was found to generate massive profits, displacing ship construction to a secondary role with research and development for a Bowex produced shipline lagging far behind as a final tertiary priority.

Bowex's business plans in the area were flowing perfectly, until a complication arose in the form of Belfast Production Facility. Officially BMM abandoned the station due to it being 'economically untenable', but it was widely known that in actual fact Molly terrorists had captured the station. BMM's abandoning of the station saw a completely 'coincidental' rise in Molly attacks on Scarborough, as well as BPA and Bounty Hunter pilots basing from the facility.

Seemingly to counterbalance this issue and make up some of the revenue lost during attacks, Bowex engineers announced that they had perfected two new trade ships that would soon be ready for mass-production from the station. The Shire and Shetland's introduction also saw a second spike in the number of Molly attacks, which led to Bowex petitioning to the MoD for one of it's battleships to be stationed outside the station. This petition met little success, falling on deaf ears for many years. Eventually, after much protesting, the Armed Forces were forced to conceded some ground, which led to the Battleship Ark Royal being stationed in the system as an anchor for BAF patrols.
