Shape-memory Alloy is a lightweight, solid-state alternative to conventional actuators such as hydraulic, pneumatic, and motor-based systems because after being deformed through stress the material may be heated to induce it to return to its cold forged shape. Its applications include aerospace, medical, piping, communications, and robotics.
