The 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment (commonly referred to as "Delta"), initially formed in the late 20th century and re-formed again in 689 AS, is made up from the most distinguished and skilled personnel from all of Liberty's military branches. Highly trained and efficient and equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry, Delta operators conduct various asymmetric warfare operations in order to enforce Libertonian interests, on the ground as well as in space.

Synopsis

Only the best of the best are allowed to serve in the legendary 1st-SFOD. To be even considered just a candidate for the rigorous training procedures one need to complete to be admitted into the 1st, one has to fulfill high expectations, and only a few of those that actually make it into the 1st's special training camp complete their courses successfully. These that do, however, can be considered true masters of their art: be it conventional, unconventional or psychological warfare, be the battlefield on the ground or in space, be there a need for combat or negotiation - the operators of the 1st are well prepared for it.

Objectives

The 1st's objectives include, but are not limited to, counter-terrorism, dealing with hostage situations, protecting high-level VIPs, reconnaissance, drug raids and surgical strikes - however, we are not a police force. Fighting low-level piracy, smuggling and similar forms of crime is the duty of the LPI; while we do not tolerate individuals engaged in such activities, we will not actively hunt them down.

Relationship to the Navy

Since the 1st belongs to a different branch of the armed forces than these employed in the Liberty Navy, 1st Operators do not possess any (legal) authority over Navy soldiers and vice-versa. Joint operations under a unified command, usually carefully planned but also sometimes called in spontaneously in cases of emergency, take place quite frequently.

Ranks

The 1st does not directly recruit civilians into their ranks. All 1st operators have served in the Liberty Army (or, in some exceptional cases, Navy or Marine Corps) and reached at least the rank of Sergeant or First Lieutenant (Second Lieutenants serving in the 1st are exclusively former enlisted soldiers who attended officer school).

Non-commissioned officers

NCOs are specialized officers while commissioned officers are generalized officers. In the 1st, NCOs usually do the grunt work as well as tactical planning (to some degree), while commissioned officers do both strategical and tactical planning.

  • E-5 Sergeant (Fireteam member)
  • E-6 Staff Sergeant (Fireteam member or junior squad leader, in charge of special administrative tasks)
  • E-7 Sergeant First Class (Fireteam or junior squad leader)
  • WO-1 Warrant Officer (Fireteam leader of junior squad leader)
  • CWO-* Chief Warrant Officer (From CWO-1 - squad leader to CWO-5 - Executive Officer)

Commissioned officers

Generalized officers. They have attended West Point Academy or Officer school.

  • O-1 Second Lieutenant (Squad or fireteam leader)
  • O-2 First Lieutenant (Squad leader or Junior Platoon Leader)
  • O-3 Captain (Platoon leader)
  • O-4 Major (Company leader)
  • O-5 Lieutenant Colonel (Battalion leader)

Characters ranking Colonel and above usually won't do field operations and thus will mainly act as characters in 1st-related RP stories. A notable exception to this is General William Simmons, Chief of the Army, Commander of LSOCOM, who leads the 1st SFOD-D and directs all of their engagements from the 1st's flagship and mobile FOB, the battleship-class LCSV Independence.

Ships used

Special permissions for civilian ships may be granted.

Capital ships

The 1st's two capital ships are mainly used for planetary assault, although the Ft. Louisburg is occasionally tasked with assisting and coordinating 1st space operations as well.

Recruitment

Currently, the 1st is officially recruiting, and is looking for players with following abilities:

  • Above-than-average roleplaying skills in any situation
  • Willingness to learn our terminology, chain of command, rules of engagement etc
  • Willingness to be a good teamplayer with a sense of fair play
  • Knowing and obeying the server rules

What does not matter to us:

  • Your flying skills. You will learn as you go.

We also expect our members to work out and write a short biography as well as to regularly report their actions in our message dump (which will be opened as soon as we grow in size and everything is fully set up).
