Volker Koch - BDM Intelligence Officer

Previously, tactical officer of the Rheinland military, today Direktor of the BDM.

Volker Koch is agent and military scientist at the same time. As specialist for combat ship design and battle tactics, he plays an important role in military projects and Rheinland's plans to reconstruct its fleet. He participated already in numerous secret operations and his knowledge about processes inside of the BDM, puts him in constant danger to get caught and interrogated by unlawful organizations. Many criminals would pay large sums to get this informations, which makes Volker to a popular target for terrorists.

Koch's position in the BDM allows him to take care of military experiments of any sort. He is responsible for research and construction projects at Schatten. Because of his know-how and dexterity as commanding officer of capital ships, he is highly regarded today and counts as valuable member of the BDM.

Childhood and Youth

Volker grew up at the farm of his grandparents on Planet Stuttgart. His parents were busy with their jobs and mostly too far away to take care of him.

His grandparents decided to live on the country, due to the growing population density and air pollution in large cities. Volker's parents tried to visit him on the farm as often as possible, but hadn't always the opportunity to do so.

Volker was always interested in chemistry and physics. With eight years he started to explore pyrotechnics. By mistake he ignites one of his self made rockets in the equipment shed of his grandparents which went up in flames in seconds. Further experiments with rubidium and a pool full of water has caused the destruction of grandpa's tractor and left a small but still notable crater in the middle of the farm.

Karl-Heinz Koch - Rheinwehr Fleet Admiral
A former Admiral of the Rheinwehr, was constantly involved in military affairs until his last operation in Tau-29 during the Nomad War sealed his fate. He had the command of the Battleship Schiller and it is revealed that he has become possessed by a Nomad alien. His body has never been found. It is unlikely that he survived the explosion on the Schiller.

Mother

Bettina Koch - Politician
Bettina Zimmerman, was a well known Politician at the Bundestag in New Berlin. Her point of views were always a thorn in the eyes for many Bundestag representatives, but her still remarkable career lasted for a term of twenty two years until some rumors forced her to resign from office. Rumors came up that she had connections to the Bundschuh and tried to support their political goals. That's why many people called her the "Bundi Betti". She disappeared in the year 803 A.S. without a trace.

Wife

Natalie Koch - Xeno-Archaeologist
Not much is known about his wife. Natalie Eichendorf worked as Xeno-Archaeologist for a museum in New Berlin. It is said, that she found new Daam K'Vosh artifacts during an expedition on Planet Sprague in Omega-3 before she disappeared in the year 820 A.S. Natalie and Volker know each other since their youth. Her disappearance changed his character entirely. Volker tries to do everything to find her, even today.

Volker takes care of Kathrin and often tends to be overprotective towards his daughter. Both mourn the loss of Natalie.

Career

Training as Rheinwehr soldier (799 - 803 A.S.)

The Rheinwehr was his chance to a well-paid job with advancement opportunities. In this time Volker discovered his obsession for heavy plasma guns. In addition to his basic training he participates on technical courses, voluntarily. After four years he finishes his training with success. With the recommendation as tactical officer.

Career as Tactical Officer (803 - 810 A.S.)

The "Donau"-class cruiser RNC-Schiller in Aalen's Orbit during a reconnaissance mission in Stuttgart, 813 A.S.

After his training he obtains a position as tactical officer on the RNC-Schiller, an in Stuttgart stationed Rheinwehr cruiser. He was assigned to a team specialized for reconnaissance missions. Through his leadership he rises up in his career very quick. After seven years of service he finally obtains which he worked so hard to gain. He became the new cruiser commander on the Schiller.

Career as Cruiser Commander (810 - 820 A.S.)

In this time Volker became known for his skills as a commanding officer on the RNC-Schiller. Many things have been changed on this cruiser since he has obtained the command. Many weapon and energy systems were outdated and the ship was not in a good condition. After some time, the old lady were renovated. The hull plating has been reinforced by additional armor plates, old relays were replaced by newer versions, weapons have been updated and a complete new reactor has been installed. The firepower of this cruiser became notorious after several operations against Red Hessians and in the year 817 A.S. when the Liberty war began, at the front in Hamburg against Libertonian intruders.

The Rodgau Attack (813 A.S.)

In the year 813 A.S. his grandparents died by an attack on the farm. The entire farm was destroyed by fire. Further investigations showed plasma combustions which could only be triggered by weapons. Since this day, Volker swore to take revenge on those who killed his grandparents. In the same year, a police patrol discovered a hidden base located in the Westnebel in Stuttgart. The whole police squad got fired upon and destroyed by LWB ships. After the emergency signal of the police patrol reached the RNC-Schiller, Volker ordered his helmsman to take course on their last known position. After arrival, he saw the remains of the police squad and some LWB ships nearby. Volker ordered to fire immediately. The LWB were surprised and could not react fast enough. Some of them decided to flee and could escape. But their base don't had luck on this day. After a few minutes the structural integrity failed and many people tried to leave the outpost by rescue capsules. It is believed that the following explosion ripped over 300 persons into death. It is also said that Volker himself fired at the rescue capsules and killed all survivors of the destroyed Rodgau outpost. Volker has never mentioned this incident in his personal reports.

Career as Intelligence Officer (Since 820 A.S.)

By establishing new contacts, Volker receives access to the BDM and leaves his career as Rheinwehr cruiser commander on his beloved cruiser. With hard work and a lot of paperwork he manages, thanks to his brilliant career and an unblemished dossier, up to the management level and gets a command position. In the same year, he obtains the command over the brand new U-201. In addition he gets his own Büro at Schatten and becomes responsible for the lead of major projects on Schatten Shipyard Part 01.

Personality

- Volker's favorite dish is Apfelstrudel.

- His friends and colleagues describe him as a patient, sympathetic and disciplined person. But his elegant appearance hides his dark side, which he understand to controll perfectly. Many people don't realise the monster behind his masque. His shiny appearance might look good, but the other side of the mirror shows a callous beast... ice cold, without any spark of guilt feelings or grief. It's the fault of his occupational life as BDM agent and events in past, which has changed his personality and forces him to throw away any kind of emotions. Agents with this ability can kill people without batting an eyelash or feel bad. Don't anoy him. Or you will wake his dark side!

- As part of the Büro Oberkommando, he has to take care of many important cases. Stress seems to be normal at his daily work in his office. His two secretaries, "Annika Köhler" and "Sabine Grundman" support him at his paperwork. While Frau Grundman takes care of financial and political matters, Frau Köhler focuses on the recruitment part. Inside of the Büro it is rumored that Volker has sexual relations with his secretaries. But that is just a silly rumor.

- Nothing is known about Volker's freetime activities. He dosn't leave his office often since his wife disappeared. His little daughter "Kathrin Koch" is all what is left of his family.

- Negotiations with him are very difficult, if he can't benefit from its outcome. He pursues his own goals and nobody realy knows or has a slightest idea what goes on in his head.

- All in all an unpredictable and dangerous person full of mysteries.
