Organs

Gentlemen,

I have recently been informed of a rather disturbing development out in the Omegas. Cryer has been made aware of a disturbingly large amount of human organs that has been moved onto a station in Omega-9 without the base owner's knowledge. Apparently some smugglers found the wreck of the base after the incident in Omega-15. Here is a copy of the transmission:

Greetings gentleman from Cryer Pharma. We apply to You to assist us in one sensitive matter. While we established our freeport outpost in omega 9 after exile from omega 15 cataclysm, due to some technicall setbacks and funding problems we left our base mostly unfinished and without any life support mechanism to drift in space until we gather funds and resources to finish it.

Our return to base was recent and when we start to refit it for habitating, we discovered in storage bays some cargo which was not registered as industrial materials and machines we stored priorly on first phase of base building.

We inspected it and it suppose to be packs of human organs packed in some special cases to ensure its composure not to be contaminated or decayed.

I am not well akowledged in all those stuff, but we suspect during our absence probably some band of smugglers hid cargo in abandoned station, counting that no one will bother to look ever, especially while possible to dock and enter in spacesuits only.

My offer is simple. As those stuff is highly contraband, we offer you to sell it for some reasonable price, as you can transport that leggaly.

Other options is to destroy stuff, but pitty to waste such vvaluable and rare cargo, biggest damage was made much earlier where those organs are harvested.

I am saying harvested cause i am talking about 25.000 units of same. Some big atrocity lies behind this, but maybe those who own these things will show up someday on our base and secret will be revealed by itself.

So are you interested to buy and resell 25.000 of human organs to people who would need it? We are interested to buyback some synthetic marijuana of yours. Those stuff will go to Gran Canaria and to outskirts of Sirius.

Help us to rid uourselves of this unintentionall unwanted stuff.

Awaiting Your answer

We will be dispatching a vessel to investigate. Hopefully there are some leads to go on in Rheinland or Bretonia. As Cryer has not lost any medical transports in the past ten months, we can only assume that these organs have been harvested from people rather than stolen from medical transports.

Mr. Clarke,

It is disturbing to think of what sort of group would have 'harvested', to use your acquaintance's term, such a number of organs. However, at least your company is now in a position to remove them from the black market of organs that is tied with the slave industry and put them to better use.
All Cryer-IDed ships are registered in our Medical Licensing list, so there will be no problems with your moving them to CRS, the ground hospitals on New London and Cambridge, or the newly-repurposed Spa & Cruise liner Shetland. They can then be screened and assuming there are no problems, used to make up for the ever-present shortage of donors.

On the subject of the Medical Licence, it was my intention to discuss some of your new developments: namely Stabiline and Med-Stasis Bands.
For the former, I am sure you are aware that the personal use of Cardamine for addicts is not illegal in Bretonia and is distributed from official centres to those in need. Cryer have purported Stabiline as a viable alternative and it shares the same 'prescription status'. The latter bands have been hailed as very effective both by field medics or the relatively relaxed setting of a hospital. However, it seems that some have been altering their use, perhaps as part of the spread of Counterfeit Software, to dispense painkillers and tranquillisers regardless of their need. To try and stem the spread of these altered models, being added to the Medical Licence list was our chosen method.
This would of course keep most of the distribution of these products in the able hands of Cryer, but if you were to come up with safeguards against illicit use of either the CCD would appreciate being informed.

Best regards,
Deputy Commissioner Magnus Page

Gentlemen,

There have been few developments in the investigation so far. Samples of the organs have been taken to both the Cambridge Research Station and various medical laboratories on New Berlin. So far the tests have been inconclusive as to the origin of the organs, however there are traces of radiation in at least thirty samples that are similar in nature to radiation patterns found in people who have spent at least four months of time in the Omega-41 system. Currently it seems that these organs were likely harvested from various edge world drifters. There are no signs of registered DNA so far in our collected samples. We will forward additional information to your agencies as it comes to light.

And Mister Page,
It is an unfortunate situation with the Medical-Stasis bands being hacked. This was theorized to be possible since their conception, and to combat this we have been sure to include security software updates in the band every time they are placed back into their re-supply docks. However this system is hardly fool proof as you have no doubt been informed of. The re-supply docks that refill their painkiller and pharmaceutical reserves are subject to being tampered with to prevent the security updates from going through to the Medical-Stasis Bands and allow them to continuously be used with insecure operating software. If this system remains compromised it can be theoretically be altered to dispense the drugs when they are not needed by the patient. Our boys in the software development department insist they are keeping up on the issue, but any security program can be broken with time unfortunately.

Since the introduction of the devices we have been very careful to keep track of their resupply docks, but it seems that some have gotten lost in transit or been stolen from hospital facilities themselves. If at all possible, please forward the serial numbers of the bands you have in your possession that have been tampered with, we can cross reference it with the resupply docks that have gone missing and see if we can find a common element.
