The Omega Defense Flotilla

Omega region was always difficult for Rheinland authorities when it comes to curbing piracy and protecting trade traffic in the area. Hiding between asteroids and using natural advantage of gaseous clouds to avoid detection by lawful scanners, pirates often could raid convoys and mining operations with impunity, and escape before reinforcements arrived. Knowledge of the local terrain and unknown to lawfuls network of jumpholes only reinforced capabilities of hessians, corsairs, LWB, even odd Bundschuh party.

When the Liberty-Rheinland war started, the high command of Military was forced to withdraw majority of its forces from the area, in order to desperatively try to stop Libertonian invasion on core Rheinland, danger which was real option for Rheinland admirals and generals. The Liberty Navy was few times stronger than the Military, and its unmatched forces were able to break Hamburg defence lines, if needed. In that situation leaving fresh rested troops, not decimated in constant skirmishes, in more secure areas of Military's influence was unacceptable for the command. Squadrons were withdrawn, capital ships turned the engines on and cruised towards New Berlin and Hamburg.

That was the ideal time for pirates to strike. Deprived of Military escort, trade convoys couldn't handle numerous ruthless raids conducted by pirates and terrorists. Weak and corrupted Federal Police, flying broken outdated ships were no help as well. The ship loss rate skyrocketed and corporations had to send more and more escorts to that area, if transports and miners wanted to survive Omega Pass at all and reach their destinations. The final act of drama started after Bonn station, exterritorial Interspace station in New Berlin, was assaulted by the Rheinland Military in an act of revenge for independent Interspace contractors' dealings with hessians. A fatal in results move, after their five minutes of glory Rheinland authorities noticed Interspace no longer insures cargo shipments in Rheinland. Corporations started having serious problems with high crime rate connected with lack of insurances for lost shipments. After around two decades of growth, Rheinland economy was in decline again. Red was the dominant colour on New Berlin stock. Red Hessians succesfully overtaking half of Dresden system and Munich Disaster only worsened already catastrophic economical situation of Rheinland.

In that situation, continuation of war against in Liberty in systems of Bremen and New Hampshire was taken as a sign of madness by the private sector. From corporate initiative, the remaining skeletal forces in Stuttgart and Omega worlds were mustered, reinforced by newly conscripted troops mixed with some of best corporate security units and organised into local defence force, meant to deal with serious dangers of piracy rather than wage pointless war against the second strongest navy in Sirius.

Omega Defence Flotilla is a security project largely still in organisation phase. Newer pilots need time to be trained, ships to come from the Libertonian front or to be built, and all of that incorporated into living, changing body of young hope for both freelance and corporate shippers venturing into Rheinland and Omega space. Stuttgart and neighboring Omegas are the main area covered by the Flotilla.

While maybe not an issue - it makes for an interesting RP opportunity, as Rheinland Military shot up one of ODF patrols because they refused to comply with thieir orders - but you really should debrief your guys on relations between unofficial factions and official ones. And while the chain of command is indeed something important, your Hauptmann shouldn't just fly off before the Gefreiter from [RM] gets a response from the HQ. Because then the Gefreiter feels obliged to arrest your men, which leads to misunderstandings, which leads to the hot-headed Flieger's first confirmed fighter kill...

You guys are great fun to RP with, but maybe your men shouldn't be so snappy and uncompliant with tagged [RM] pilots who have not yet been debriefed about you. That leads to what happened to your Omega-7 patrol.

See you in space - In better circumstances next time, I hope!

Quote:Faction Right 2. Official player factions have authority over players of the same NPC affiliation, as long as RP justification is provided. This authority applies in forums and in-game, and applies to player faction diplomacy, and strategic and tactical direction, however, exercise of that authority, on the forums and in game, is restricted to official faction members with the rank of the official faction leader and second in command(s) of the faction. The authority may be exercised through the use of in-game in-RP orders, which, if not obeyed, can result in in-game in-RP consequences (arrest, court martial, and even "lethal" force in extreme circumstances). Official player factions cannot, under any cicrumstances, require another player to follow non-canon RP if that player doesn't want to. In case of IDs with multiple official factions, this right is nullified and cannot be used by any of the factions.

Think it's your side who did wrong yesterday.
To be honest I'm reading it as "Capwhoring Miners Flotilla". Good luck tho, don't know why you need a faction for that.

Edit: In fact I recall that there was a faction with exactly that purpose in the past, even with almost same background - at least that's what I can remember. They were just a miner bodyguards on steroids, nothing more.

Seeing as how deserted the Omegas at the moment I don't really feel like you'll have much to do.

Exactly this.
What you have achieved though is that inRP a division of the military that already has limited resources and assets now has one fighter less. A great way to start your relations. You can imagine how that will reflect to the pilots inRP stance towards you. A great way to weaken your own war assets, I might add.
For the ooRP part, it was completely uncalled for and I'd go far enough to say it was an ID violation, since no Rheinland laws were broken and a player with the same ID was attacked.
And no, since there was no combat situation at hand (since there was no threat to ODF forces other than you and no hostile ship in range when I take a look at the screenshots from the situation, Article One §3.1 doesn't count.
...
I don't even know how to respond to this.
Aside from reminding you that this is only a game, I can give quite a few real life examples of similar situations ending in similar results. From what I see here - a patrol of Rheinland Military spots ships they do not recognize and try to identify them and in turn they get snappy response and no information at all. And no, "You'll have trouble" is not an information about your origin and destination.

While I agree that we were wrong to shoot the ODF pilot down, this whole situation can't be called a "dick move", as you were so kind to call it. Every shot and every single move my pilot did had an inRP justification.
You can't call me a dick for roleplaying exactly who my character is. And it pains me to say that you have issues with distinguishing between the player and character.

What did I write?
"Don't be so snappy to pilots who don't know you, and give them the info they need". If they waited for us to contact the HQ (we were in touch with our Feldwebel who was in charge of my Flieger's training) nothing bad would happen. More then that: Lukas would have apologized for his behavior and actually listen to the ODF officer's orders.
My pilot is a trigger-happy hothead, that's true. But your Hauptmann is a snappy guy who lacks common sense. And that is a bad thing.

While I don't have an issue with whoever played those character - the RP was solid and I liked the interaction - this particular issue could lead to both inRP and ooRP tensions both between our pilots and our groups.

Then again - I'm sorry if my inRP actions harmed other people's game experience and I hope to improve. I came here not only trying to inform you about what I think is wrong, but also seeking Your advice as more experienced players.
What did I get? "You were wrong". "A dick move it was".
What about some constructive criticism? What should I do when I have some guys I don't know flying off when I did not have a response and no information about them and have all reasons to believe they are not who they say they are?

I had no intention to start a flame war and this is exactly what I get for trying to interact with other players... Why can't you guys just chill out once in a while?

Said the Flieger and the Gefreiter to the Hauptmann.
Those pilots had no information about Your actual rank. Also you had no rank indication aside from the conversation itself... There were no reasons to follow his orders there.

And read it to the end, please? I'm trying to communicate here.
Just so you get the point already, that you're in [RM] below the 1ic and 2ic means you can be told to sod off and mind your very own business by people sharing the same ID. What you did is a kick on the rules. Very well explained rules to have been missed, by the way.

PS: I wasn't the guy. Be sure if you had shot me, I'd have eagerly returned the fire.
Just to make it clear, I ask everybody to refrain from commenting that certain incident, it'll be discussed soon, when our leader gets online.

@ Curios

It saddens me this seems to you to be "capwhoring miners flotilla", especially as of now we don't even have single gunboat in the faction, not to mention anything bigger. I don't know what was in the past, but I can say we aim to be high-roleplay faction, and plan to develop our characters and entire faction inRP with time. I hope we'll make good impression on you when you meet us in game.
