Today marked the beginning of a new research for Liam, and the directive came directly from McCool. The Subject had interested him for a while, though he had never gotten to play with the idea of creating these magnificent machines without having a strong enough power core, though, thanks to Winterton and McCool, it was finally possible to begin thinking about the various uses that these new, smaller cores can have, and specifically what exactly they can power.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

McCool had instructed Shaw to begin looking into drones and mechs which can be powered by the small cores. Machines that would ease the life of whoever used them, and there were many possibilities really, too many to realize all at once. Just the different branches of use were mind-blowing. Medical drones and droids, which could help with anything from the most difficult surgeries to home care. "Worker" droids and mechs, working the assembly lines, or shipyards, carrying the heavy loads of metal. Farming droids, making the production of food that much easier for the farmers, which need to till hundreds of hectares of soil, could be done in no time when they use these drones.

Perhaps though the most interesting field that Shaw had been looking at, was the militarized drones, for security, home defense and of course, the military. They would need to pack a punch, be able to carry heavy loads, and be controllable with ease, and not to forget the fail-safe protocols. With drones like these, you would not want to take any risk at all, though there will always be a risk involved. The responsibility of creating these magnificent machines laid with Shaw and Lab 003.

It would take a few days at the least to come up with concepts which would fit the smaller cores, not to forget actually building and testing them. One of the facilities rooms would need to be converted to a range, though this would have its time sooner or later, now it was time to sit down and grab a pencil. Time to begin creating blueprints.

It had been days since the last entry into his Log. Liam had been spilling his brains trying to create concepts and blueprints for drones and mechs which could be powered by the small cores, and which looked promising enough to pursue. His trashcan had been emptied four times in the last 48 hours, all bunched up balls of paper he discarded after deciding it was another try that he failed. Shaw had no problems with coming up with ideas, though to find the right one would be the hard part. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The other engineers had been waiting for a concept to finally be good enough for Liam so they could produce prototypes, though so far before a single prototype could be completed the idea had been scrapped again. It was nerve wrecking on Shaw and his team, though they kept a good moral and high hopes something with finally hit him. It took him forever to go through the process of creating one of these Concepts. The same steps over and over. Gathering Ideas was always first, thinking of how this one drone could be used, what it would look like, how it operated. Then came the drawing of a rough concept, reworking and detailing. Finally came the full render of his new creation. It took him roughly two-hundred and fifty different tries until he finally was happy with one example of his work. This would be the beginning of Liam's legacy. This is the first in a line of many he plans to create, though was it an omen that his first creation would be a Military Droid? He did not think about it any longer and handed the first designs in to his team, who all agreed that this concept can be realized with the tools they have at their disposal. It did not take long before everything was put into motion.

IMD-001 Concept Artwork

The very first full concept of a Militarized Droid was completed. It took the form of a human, though at over six feet tall, it was usually taller then the engineers working on it. It had hands to hold it's armament, which would also be designed by the Ingenuus group at a later point in time. The first goal now after the concept had been created was to build the prototype. McCool will be thrilled to hear of the advancements being made in 003, it finally moved forward for Ingenuus and another division was up and running. Soon they could be self sufficient in energy generation and powering Shaw's creations. Everything looked better now than it did before. Perhaps it was his calling to create machines of war after all and not work on medical equipment, though he did not push aside his other ideas for droids. Medical, Fieldwork, Construction and so many more options were open to him now.

Work on IMD-001 begins, Security is always present in this Top Secret process.

Time had past since the last entry made by Shaw. He was too busy with the construction and development of IMD-001, it would take more time complete it for testing and mass production, if it were to even come to that. Liam was making improvements though. The initial prototype gave him great insights, and he improved upon them.

Leg Schematics of IMD-001 Prototype 2 - Improved

The structural integrity of the Drone was a major concern when the first prototype was completed. The legs and their base would need to be strengthened in order to hold the weight of not only the complete drone once finished, but also the armament it will be carrying. Liam took to the board with the Data he'd collected and the help of some of his other researchers to improve the leg base. Reinforced plating of the "Calf" along with a strengthened and widened foot of the drone were put in place to support the weight of both the drone and its weaponry once testing began, through the calculations in previous tests and observations, it was also concluded that each part of plating and part of the base needed to be able to move independently, much like a human would walk, so the drone could adjust to any environment it passed, traversing it with ease.

Furthermore, the Upper Torso and joints needed to be strengthened. Multiple movable core-joints were added to the shoulder and elbow of the drone, to allow for a more fluid arm movement while in operation. These joint were also implemented to it's legs in the process of allowing a fluidity of motion. Plating was installed over to the joints to ensure they were not exposed targets, weak spots in the drones design. Finally, as the last improvement for Prototype 2, the drone received human-like hands, with 5 fingers and movable joints on each finger.

Liam was impressed with himself, and a little taken back by just how human he was designing this drone to look, but that was also his goal, to make it look as normal as possible. In his mind, he was seeing it all already, Drones roaming the street along side police officers, assisting them. Along side soldiers on the front lines, and even in the hospital as a surgical assistant. There were so many uses for his designs, and so many more designs flying around in the darkness outside the ships hull that he would never be able to encompass them all, though he was moving to find more inspirations for his work. Project Elysium was well underway with IMF-001, though it would not stop there, no. Liam was dreaming much bigger.

The last thought that crossed Shaw's head was the computing power of his available control consoles. He'd need to enlarge the server capacity available to him, exponentially. It was the only way he would be able to control testing, and not to mention control his creations. He needed a larger server room, and soon. Perhaps McCool would be able to help on that one.

McCool had finally delivered. The new server room next to 003 along with the improved wiring made it possible for Liam to finally have the computing power he needed without taking power from the other laboratories, though they never knew he did it. Development of IMD-001 Prototype 2 was moving beautifully, though an order from the top set that Project to the side for now. McCool wanted Elysium to create more civil drones for now. Medical, Recon, that sort of thing was to be developed for now, to build a base of customers, and then handle in the weaponsgrade perfection that Liam was creating. Although he didn't like pausing Prototype 2, he did it anyways, and began to design drones to be powered by the core and that could be used in the medical and civil fields.

With the beginning of a new venture into another field of machinery, Liam began creating first sketched and blueprints. He needed to find his way into the subject if he wanted to make the best possible product. Medical was his first stop, and his first idea was a small protocol droid. A simple task really, but it would take time off and free up nurses for bigger tasks when this little droid makes its rounds with the newcomer patients.

Finished design of IPD-001, concept to be produced.

The concept behind IPD-001 was simple and yet so important. Running on the core, this little creation could run through the Emergency Room and halls of Medical Bays and Hospitals without tiring. Advanced Facial and Voice Recognition were included, as well as a direct uplink to the Servers to upload patient data to the medical staff. The idea was to have the drone greet new patients and take their issues and forms, scan them and upload them to the staff, prioritizing more severe injuries to mere scratches and scrapes. This would take not one but two tasks off the nurses, who could then focus on treating patients, rather than having to wait for the paperwork to be filled, then go through it all, decide what treatment is needed, prioritize cases and so forth. All of those menial tasks would now be done by IPD-001, atleast such was the idea.

Liam was not done with the flow of ideas about the civil field yet, and as he finished the blueprints and concept of IPD-001, he already had another idea buzzing in his head. A small, crab-like droid that would draw blood, place injections and IV's, basically replacing every syringe that was ever needed. Though Liam met one hurdle with this creation, there was no way that he could power this with a core inside of it, though he already had an idea as to how it could be done. The tiniest of batteries would be inside of the small drone, and a rechargestation would be it's 'home'. The station, powered by the core, would be able to uphold the power in the drones and recharge them at the end of a day of work. Another way to take workload of the doctors, which could be especially helpful in places of dire need and urgency, perhaps the Refugees of Leeds and the other wars.

The Syringe Droid Concept

The last of Liams ideas was another rather simple one, with a more complicated concept, moving away from the medical sector. With the current technology standards that were in place, sub-atmospheric flight would be no problem. This creation, so was his string of thought, would help local departments in Search and Rescue, Pursuit, and other local missions that they would need to run.

Remote-Controlled Recon Drone

The drone was to be able to be flown manually, with Thermal, IR and Normal cameras mounted in it's nose. A portable console, perhaps truck mounted, was the control station, with an operational range of about twenty miles, fifty if extra antennas were in place. Liam was sure that he could increase the range on the connection, though to boost that he first needed to make sure that the design would work as intended, and he could begin actually focussing on every single project. It was wild work, and he had ideas flowing through his head constantly, not the problem would be producing the prototypes of each of his ideas, thats where most of the complications occur. Atleast he could hope that McCool and the others would be impressed by the new concepts coming from Elysium.

The journey since my last entry has been too long. McCool missing, so much going on, my work consumed me and I just plain didn't keep my journal going. It was about time I wrote down and documented my progress on these wonderful machines.

Past sketches and blueprints were scattered everywhere, and the new machinery was standing in it's bays. They were undergoing field trials at the moment but things were looking promising. Initial surveys show a solid AI Interface that allows outside voice commands and remote controlling on top of its autonomous work. It was quite the sight to behold his makings work.

ER-01 in it's final design undergoing trials

The concept in ER-01 was a combination of his past military droids combined with his recent advances into the medical field. ER-01 would be able to perform anything from print paperwork to surgery. It's sensors and cameras were the newest technology that Liam could've gotten his hands on and he was happy that things were looking as good as they were. With the field trials progressing as they were at the moment, mass production could begin in a month or two, if people were interested in the design, and if they were ready to have AI assisting them in the Operating room. Liam hoped that they would, he was fascinated that it all worked out as well as it was right now. If ER-01 hit the market as he hopes it does, he might be able to use the design and alter it to return to Military use in the future.

With successful field trials, many doors would be opening for his droids. They could be programmed to do almost anything, and they were more advanced than many of the droids already out on the market, being more efficient, with less upkeep cost. Of course buying such a High-Tech machine would come at a price, but each of his units would come with an Upkeep and Maintenance contract. AI-Mechanics can be trained in the upkeep of the machines and soon, so he hopes, they will be available all around Sirius.

On another note, a different idea was flowing through his mind, it was merely an Animation of his expected outcome, but if this Idea worked out as he wanted, these nanobots could help people with autoimmune diseases or low white blood cell count, even red blood cells. If it all went to plan, these Nanobots could replace missing cells, mimicking the ones it is surrounded by as per programming, and carry oxygen, act as an antibody or carry other nutrients. It was in the infant stages, but it was worth exploring.
