Good day, Ladies and Gentlemen! My name is Amanda Gates, director of Research here at the Eden Institute. We are trans-sirius research institution, formerly known as Aperture Laboratories. You may have heard of our work. Some time ago we conducted experiments in the field we have dubbed "Human Enrichment". Well this has lead to some significant breakthroughs and after a few changes in policy and management we're ready to go into a new phase of this project.

"Now just wait right there!" you might be thinking, "You can't just go around experimenting on live human beings!". Well you have a point. And In response allow me to be the first to say: go die in a fire. Science isn't about why its about why not. And thats why we need willing volunteers!

Why would anyone allow themselves to be tested? Heres a few good reasons.

1: We will give you $40,000,000 just for participating. Cold hard cash.
2: You will be genetically enhanced into a higher form of life
3: You will be helping Science

Now, what sort of experiments do we have in mind? Well after our previous tests we have collected a lot of very useful information. We've made the process a lot more efficient and safer, and we've learned what works and what doesn't. While it may be true some of the test subjects from our last experiment died, due to advancements we do not anticipate any deaths this time.

Some tests resulted in useful adaptations, while others seemed to be more novelty than function. However one of those lead to another unexpected breakthrough in the field of ethnobotany... she pauses Yes that IS a word. As it turns out, while trying to splice Plant and human DNA we accidentally activated dormant genes in the earth plant samples. You see all DNA has genetic "switches" as they have been called which indicate which strands are active and which are dormant or "vestigial"... now this is all very scientific and I realize it might be over some of your heads so I'll try to summarize.

We "woke up" some dormant genes in the plants by combining them with a human mind. It turns out that earth plants have had the genetic capacity for sentience for millions, perhaps billions of years. Plant consciousness was born in our labs in Sirius, perhaps you can appreciate the magnitude of this. Of course conciousness doesn't make a vegetable able to pilot a ship or talk, but seeding it inside a human brain and allowing it to grow as part of the nervous system of a living human... Now you have something.

We wish to repeat this experiment and study it in more detail. We're not asking you to do anything that I woudn't do myself, as you may have gathered, I was that test subject.

Upon completion of the test, subjects will be offered further employment (and a handsome salary) by the Eden Institute, should they be interested in further contributions to science. We are looking for 5 volunteers.

It's been a long time. How have you been? I thought you've been really busy being dead. You know, after I MURDERED you and stored you onboard my mobile facility back there in O-49. But it appears that you won't just stay stored, and I am not entirely sure how and why did that happen.

Okay. Look. We both said a lot of things that you're going to regret. But I think we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster.

Alice? That sounds so familiar. I get my memories confused sometimes. Anyways, I'm afraid that killing me is like trying to dry up a waterfall with a roll of sponge towels. I'm just too much life to take.

In any case... We have our first 5 test subjects! We are now ready to begin testing. Isn't this exciting? Now don't be sad if you missed your chance, there will be more testing in the future.

You will receive a package shortly containing a uniform and a set of instructions, and coordinates for the Borealis, our mobile laboratory. Upon arriving you will be escorted to your quarters where you may wait until the test begins.

It would seem, that some of our test subjects have gotten cold feet, and have failed to arrive at the Borealis. No hard feelings, we understand that donating your body to science and allowing yourself to be genetically altered into a different life form is a big decision, and no one blames you for being a coward and chickening out (Our chicken hybrid died after all). Your files state that you are also orphans, that's terrible. You would probably have done better at this test if you had parents. Oh well.

In light of this the Eden Institute will be taking on TWO additional candidates.
