Elena can easily be recognized in every crowd, quite simply through her distinctive feature; the blue-dyed hair. While being of rather thewed build, she still has a slim figure, which she likes to accentuate via tight outfits. For her, comfort usually tops looks in the matter of clothes, though. Her most typical outfit consists of sleeveless tops, jeans and her favourite leather jacket which has been a companion of hers for many years. In general she prefers casual over formal or extravagant, although she is not averse to latter given the proper occasion.

Personality

Prima facie, Elena – otherwise known as Blueberry, Bluebs or Evee – strikes people as a cheerful and candid character since she leans towards the heavier side of extraversion when in public or with friends. Albeit this being not just a livewire's guise she puts on, it does take no great deal to break this shell of mirth. Underneath, she is emotionally instable, harboring her own fair share of regrets and woes that she wishes to get rid of, but cannot, like little demons sitting on her shoulder. She is in a constant attempt to disregard them, yet that does not always work. In order to compensate for her self-recrimination and thus her rather unhealthy absence of self-respect, she sometimes exhibits a certain arrogance, especially when provoked or confronted with others' arrogancy.

In general, she feels the deep wish to make amends, a strive to redeem herself for things she has done and rid herself of guilt, while in the meantime being in denial of this guilt often enough or acting tough. She often abides by her own tenet "You harvest what you sow", which makes her rather unforgiving, both against others and herself. Nonetheless, her priorities in life are very clear: freedom, happiness and fulfilment, which she believes can only be found in the universe. She has been a moody persona before, yet this trait has become more accentuated by now. Her former optimism and the pessimism she has indulged in for a long while, all fears and doubts attached, are in a constant struggle. Albeit her obvious extraversion, sometimes she can seem a withdrawn character when she is brooding over things or has one of her sentimental bouts.

In spite of everything Elena can't but keep a certain juvenility. Acting a daredevil and risk taker, either intentional or not, she is always thirsty for exciting experiences – no matter if races or ventures –, and loves to play and fool around. This however does not mean that she is not aware that such “puerile behavior”, when displayed in the wrong moment, can lead to major trouble. To some degree, she has learned to be wary and is not as naive anymore to believe the universe has only good things in petto for her. Additionally, she has problems with impulse control and impatience: in general, she is not a woman that likes to wait and play everything the slow and steady way. Above all however, she often is all agog with curiosity, and never really knows when to stop with her questions. She also has a promiscuous vein; whether it is to divert herself from less pleasant thoughts or to simply have a good time, she is surely not averse to teasing and flirting.

Elena regards herself as a slow leaner due to her stubborn tendencies and ability to get wound up in things. She definitely has a mind of her own, and to tame her can well seem impossible from time to time. While she might hold selfish thoughts and is surely not the most honest of all humans in Sirius, for her friends she cares very deeply; though it is this very care that often causes her to be more concerned than good for her.

History

Born on Planet Stuttgart, Elena was the second child of Michael Voigt, retired Military officer and now employed transport captain at Krüger Minerals, and Magdalena Voigt. Her tender years were well-protected, maybe even overprotected due to her father's plenty worries. Himself a child of the Nomad War, having fought on the side of the Order, he had learned to shelter his loved ones and guard his private life. He however never told his daughter about the reasons behind his behavior, maybe because the pictures of war in his head kept horrifying him even years after. Another defining relationship during her childhood and youth was the one to her older brother Georg, which was characterized by classic sibling rivalry. Georg too was keen on protecting his sister, albeit his way of showing affection mainly including taunting and scuffles. Elena took this behavior down the wrong pipe as soon as she hit puberty, and, in her belief that her brother was an idiotic fool, she further and further distanced herself from him, until they rarely even spoke to each other.

During her childhood, she dreamed to become a pilot of the Rheinland Military, especially when the war between Liberty and Rheinland broke out. Naturally her father instantly put his foot down when he heard about it, which would be a topic of many arguments in their short-of-domestic-bliss household. Her father was not willing to let her enlist, mainly since he did not want his daughter to go the same path he had gone once. If he'd had his wish, Elena would have gone to university. Once she had reached her eighteenth year of age, however, shortly after her mother had died in an unfortunate traffic accident, she digged her heels in and enlisted without her father's approval. Although she was ultimately denied, her father still got wind of it, which made them fall out with each other entirely.

Followed by these dysfunctional family problems, Elena decided to actually go to university – her grades were passable and would allow her to do so. It would boil down to a study of Sirian History and Politics. During this time, however, she finally found out about the pleasures of life: alcohol, clubs and parties; leaving her with little to no time to actually study the subject. It took her two semesters to draw a line under this failed attempt, and left university, apparently lacking the motivation to learn over a longer period of time. Nonetheless she left with a profound knowledge of Sirian history, although she would sometimes wish it to be more, and tends to self-education in this particular field. After having left university behind her, Elena spent some time striving around the different places on Stuttgart. First she still had her friends, who she had shared a flat with before, care for her and providing her with food rations and a place to sleep. Since they began to urge her to get a real job though, she started with looking for a suitable way to earn money, and ended up as a waitress in a bar through good connections. During that time, she had one or another rather irrelevant romance, mostly with people she met in bars and clubs. The more she spent time waiting tables and serving all sorts of unpleasant people however, the more she grew unhappy about her current lifestyle. It didn't satisfy her strive for freedom and felicity.

A ticket out of the bar came upon her when she met a visitor in said bar, an eloquent man called Victor von Grebensfeld. Apparently taking a fancy to Elena, Victor turned out to be the captain of an independent transport and eventually offered her a place amongst his crew. Having told her about the beauty and the wonders of Sirius, he presented her with the chance to see it all for herself – surely not without a certain hidden agenda in his mind. Since Elena viewed this as the one-time chance of her life – being able to explore Sirius together with a charming man, or so she thought. Without hesitation she jumped at the opportunity, cancelled her job at the bar and joined the crew. To nobody's surprise, since this had been the foremost reason for him to invite her in the first place, a romance soon developed between the two, one that would last astonishingly long, for Elena's standards.

Although the time onboard had umpteen of beautiful sights in petto, the rose-colored glasses would vanish at some point, and both would slowly realize they had met a reflection of each other, two more or less arrogant persons who would not come along well in the long run. She remained on his ship despite all of this for a while, but in the end they pulled the plug. However Victor didn't just maroon her on a desolate isle without any possibilities – in fact, he brought himself to dedicate a minor percentage of the credits he had earned to her, so she could start from scratch.

The idea of spending more time in space had taken ahold of her the minute they had parted ways. A few months later, which she had spent once again working ata pub, she could finally call herself proud owner of a Sabre fighter. Thus she began to teach herself to fly a spacecraft – first only through various civilian flight simulators, later in the field. And so came the time when she had to decide where to go and what to do next.

Liberty – the proclaimed House of Freedom and Boundless Possibilities – was the logical place to go next, for it had a reputation of being a heaven in Sirius for all sorts of freelancers, escort pilots and mercenaries who seek a contractor. And indeed; it would not take long for Elena to find suitable jobs, doing her first steps in order to make her freelancing financially succesful. Independency, freedom to do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted – it was like a dream come true. Not only did she meet possible contractors in Liberty, there were also other freelancers she ran into, people on a similar quest for fortune. Acknowledging that fact Elena soon came to found a private mercenary company with two of her acquaintances, Nick Stenn and Sarah Fenn. The so-called “Forlorn Hope” was born, and as swiftly as it had been founded, as swiftly did it attract attention. In no-time were they considered a primary auxiliary force for the Liberty Navy, which should only be the beginning of a long road towards Sirian-wide prominence and an age of prosperity for the company.

Beside of that, Elena soon found herself in a relationship again, this time with a striking officer of the Libertonian 5th Fleet – John Armada. The young love was put to the test numerous times, consisting of, but not confining itself to redeployments to the Leeds front or side leaps by Elena. Yet they stayed together, not least because, out of a fit of levity, she soon was diagnosed to be pregnant by him, a glue that would hold them together albeit the circumstances. At first joyful and blithe, she was sure she could get through the pregnancy.

During her time with the Forlorn Hope, Elena came in contact with myriads of people, some of whom would become close friends of hers and thus would, as an ineluctable consequence, drag her into trouble countless of times. All the while however, it became more and more obvious that the careless vein of hers would at some point take their toll on her; eventually it would only need another last straw to break the camel's back once and for all. The stress of combat, the dangers of space, the occasional consumage of alcohol, the general pressure she felt: Elena conveniently disregarded the hints that pointed towards a bad ending, and so ran into it at full velocity.

Fate hit after all. The child died shortly before it would have been born, and from one day to the other the world suddenly looked different. It was an event that made her collapse into a deep mental crisis and eventually led to the break-up between her and her boyfriend. She was quick to give herself the whole blame for the tragedy – a notion that was not too far-fetched.

Soon after her decline, accompanied by the renewed consumage of alcohol, it also came to a fall-out between her and one of her friends, Kiara Garlow. In the long run, this quarrel ended in the latter being captured and tortured by a Gallic Brigand. With a Trojan Horse and some deceit she eventually managed to free her again, but only to find out that her friend had been brainwashed and considered herself a different person.

In the meantime Elena further and further developed symptoms of a post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the death of her child and the sudden collapse of her life. It grew as far as to her having eerie flashbacks during day and horrific nightmares during the night, accompanied by the feeling of utter helplessness, distress and last but not least paranoia. She tried to battle the symptoms with excessive consumption of alcohol, although this only worsened her state. In fact, with passing time she grew more and more isolated from others.

Only the experience of a failed suicide attempt at the end of 824 gave her the long overdue clarion call that things had to change if she wanted to get out of the maelstrom of misery. And so she sought for professional help. And found it in the form John Holliday. He invited her to a therapy meeting on his very own private estate on Gran Canaria where he tried to help her. The way he approached the problem, visiting orphanages in the vicinity, did work albeit the hardship she had to go through there. Together with the constant support of her friends she managed to fight back the flashbacks and begin to actually live again. One's wounds of the past only heal slowly though – and some of them become scars. Although she managed to get over it, that did not mean it left no scars behind. Since then she has made it a practice of hers to visit orphanages every now and then – doing something against the guilt and keeping the past ever aware.

It was at this point that she decided she needed time off from everything and everybody that had been surrounding her. In hopes of being able to leave the past behind herself, she visited her home Stuttgart again and went planetside. Catching up with old friends, revelling in times of no responsibility whatsoever. Though she enjoyed the stay, it would not take long until the stars above her once again looked down on her and wished to invite her to live her life among them. An invitation that Elena, albeit the bitter experiences she had made with the universe, felt unable to decline deep inside.

And thus she again left the save haven that was her home and sailed out. Looking for adventures, happiness, fulfilment and the ultimate freedom. With no real cause or sense of purpose anymore, but the impalpable urge to live among the stars again.
