Operation "Ouroboros"

Hello esteemed members of the Royal Navy. I am Francois Drake Général de Division - Commander of the Foreign Legion. *He bows*

I believe this is the first time we have been acquainted, and I contact you this day to ask your thoughts on an operation we have put together to assist our further advance into Sirius and slowly complete the encirclement of the crumbling House of Bretonia.

We believe as we drive a wedge further between Liberty and Bretonia our push north into the Cortez system will make it difficult for the enemy to maintain supply lines from Liberty. As Bretonia is cutoff their surrender can only be a matter of time.

However, not much is known about the systems north of Magellan.

Preliminary data recovered from the wreckage of Freeport 4 indicates there are at least 3 systems within a jump or two of the Magellan system, namely Cortez, Coronado and Inverness.

Not much is known about the entities that operate within these systems other than that Cortez is a transit system between Bretonia and Liberty, Coronado has a large colonial presence and Inverness is yet to be explored fully.

I think it would be unwise for our forces to push further into the North and Cortez until we know what military infrastructure lies within these systems.

I put forward the outline for a reconnaissance mission the Legion would like to perform to map these systems and record / report all activity we detect therein.

Operation Ouruboros outline:-

Mission Roster:

-1 Reconnaissance Vessel (Special Adaptations installed, Class *****)
-3 Perilous Gunboats
-4 Cougar Bombers
-4 Lynx Fighters

Mission Objectives:

-Penetrate enemy lines in Cortez, Coronado and Inverness

-Take reconnaissance photos of all military / civilian installations

-Complete maps of each system with locations of all points of interest noted

-Record activity of local militias / encounters

-Provide complete report for GRN High Command

Mission Risks:

-Heavy resistance from local Paramilitaries and Militias of unknown strength
-Loss of vital intelligence

I forward this proposal to yourselves as I would like to know your thoughts on it, and I would also like to use this operation as an opportunity to form good working relationships with other naval units. I feel a team effort could ensure mission success, we don't know what we may encounter out there given this is an expedition to areas of hostile space outside of our normal patrol paths. The risk is high but the reward even greater.

Cher Monsieur ou Madame,

First and foremost, allow me to sincerely apologize for what must have been an extraordinarily long delay in terms of a response, as you might have very well guessed, the Royal Navy is undergoing a reshuffle in terms of personnel, so as to allow those who have fought bravely thus far to rest, while the rest of us do our parts for the Roi.

A very decisive analysis on your part to understand your battlefields before conquering it all for Charles. I am of the same mind as you after reviewing the situation myself, for the surroundings could very well be rich in infrastructure and resources, much to our benefit. Such discoveries as well as what surrounds our battle-lines are of utmost importance in securing our pushes within this set of Systems. I personally want to see the Carcassone making a permanent push into California with the wrecks of whatever hobbled together trash the enemy proclaims are warships in its glorious back-drop.

You will have our support to make this a reality, Monsieur Drake.

Meilleures salutations,

Grand Maréchal MonteCristo

Bonjour Général,

The Royal Navy has mostly completed its reform and has reviewed the Foreign Legion's proposed operation.

It is indeed true that we are lacking in intelligence of the surrounding areas. "Cortez" is a system that is within the Navy's long-term plans - it is an artery that needs to be cut. The other systems in the region do not seem interesting, however, we will not decline the Foreign Legion sending scouts to investigate them. The attack of California and the destruction of the San Diego station has shown that we would need to be much more prepared for the inevitable invasion.

I will need to hear the full details of the operation before making the decision, however. Once you have finished your plans, transmit the full details including the time, date and schedule.

We will delegate a small strike wing to this operation once we hear the finalised draft.

I thank you for your swift replies and I am most grateful for your willingness to assist in this mission. Before we can begin we need to ensure we have enough supplies of food, water, oxygen and munitions. Some special will also be required to carry out the necessary reconnaissance.

We do not know what to expect out there so I don't want to leave those things to chance, although since this is a mission into unknown somethings will be. I will endure with my team to propose a final draft for the mission, but I have faith that with our training we are well prepared for any situation.

Leave this with me, I will be in contact again soon with a further update.

Bonjour esteemed members of the Gallic Royal Navy. It is my pleasure to announce Stage 2 of this operation:-

We are currently sourcing the required hardware and personnel for us to conduct this mission:

-Recon Modules

-Mobile Medical Units

-Survey Teams

Are being rallied as we speak.

The proposed plan will revolve around a defensive delta formation:

Our recon ship will be located within the center of the formation, flanked by 3 gbs at the Delta apexes.
This will be further reinforced by a wing of VHF fighters in front of the recon ship and a wing of bombers behind it.

Formation Schematic:

Analysis:

Flight Simulations have shown this is the most effective formation we should run for our survey sweep of these systems. Such a heavily armed escort, will deter most would-be insurgents/militias we may encounter. I do not expect heavy resistance from the Liberty Navy or Bretonian forces as their attention will be diverted toward the current front in Leeds.

However, if need be La Legion Etrangere will send the Illustre Battlegroup to carry out a diversionary attack on New London, to draw any allied forces away from Cortez and Coronado.

Risk Factors:

Colonial Forces will be our biggest problem as their home fleet is of unknown strength, all we know currently is that they heavily defend the Coronado system but given its vicinity to Cortez. It is impervious for us to penetrate that system and collect as much information as possible on the Colonials. With a diversion we may even be able to limit any response from them too.

Throughout the duration of the mission it will be vital to ensure the integrity of the Recon Ship, as the data contained therein will be invaluable to the war effort. I cannot stress enough the need to protect that ship!

We will attempt a full sweep of Cortez, Coranado and Inverness (if there is enough time). The sweep will be done in Cruise Mode following a predetermined flight path. Remember we are not there to attack anyone, just map whatever we find and report it back to High Command.

I look forward to hearing from you on these next steps.

Général de Division - Francois Drake, signing off. Vive le Roi
