The WV-Illyricum was commissioned in 800 AS. thanks to efforts of Alabama's shipbuilders. It's original purpose was to aid local defense fleets of Omicron Rho, so it held guarding stance at far orbit of Planet Rio, keeping it's scanners in tune for any hostile activity in the area. Equiped with the finest technology available to the Core back at that point, the WV-Illyricum has been a serious treat to any capital-sized units. Additionally, it could launch a wing of fighters if there was need for such support, making the vessel quite universal and flexible, ready to face anything the Omicrons could offer. Improved armor platings, massive power core and mighty weaponry - all of that combined with tactical abilities of it's commanding officer, Jason Morth, created a full image of this floating beast.

The first four years of it's duty have been rather peaceful, excluding a few skirmishes with forces of the Order and Nomads. The vessel was inspected a few times during this period, while moored with the Alabama Shipyard. Back then, it's fighter pilots practiced their skills in Rho's training zones or spent their time off-duty, depending on the internal checklists.

The situation's changed in the late 824 AS. The WV-Illyricum got surprised and engaged by three alien cruisers, which have sneaked through the jump hole undetected, most likely due to some cloaking technology. Despite almost unexistant reaction time of it's crew, heavy damage was impossible to avoid. Focused fire of three Irras has caused an overload to the Illyricum's shields after four salvos - the issue was later examined as a factory flaw in it's mechanism, which got detected after suffering from massive firepower. With the shields turned down for a short while, the Illyricum's main command bridge got teared apart by heavy alien cannons, with the entire HQ staff being present there. Almost everyone's died in matter of seconds and the ship would be surely lost, if it wasn't provided with a secondary command bridge.

Even then, the loss of nearly all officers, numenous wounded crewman and technical problems which followed have caused a serious mess and chaos onboard the vessel. The future CO of the Illyricum, Natalie Tsunada of the Scythe Wing, has docked with the vessel and taken over the command, putting her reputation in danger. In the same time,
her twin-brother Jack's broken through the alien forces in his Marlin fighter and called for support from the remaining Core units in the system.

The Illyricum got saved by immediate intervetion of three Mako-class battleships and responsible decisions made by Natalie. The 'rescue mission' has reached the battlecruiser in flames, being significantly damaged, but still operational and beating the aliens. Natalie's been then promoted to the official rank of CO, with her brother as the new XO,
due to their merit in order to save the Bullhead.

The vessel's spent the next six months, moored with the Alabama drydock, on repairs and crew replacement.
It's new HQ staff have introduced a few addons to improve the overall combat and emergency performance. The Illyricum has returned to active duty in may of 825 AS.
