LL Rhodes
LL Rhodes is a Luxury Liner built in 816 A.S. by Baltimore shipyard, New York, for Orbital Spa & Cruise. She's currently used on cruise traffic from Manhattan to Heaven's Gate in Tohoku and occasionally Munich and Newcastle.
History
---------------------------------
The Rhodes was planned in the first half of 815 as a brand new, state-of-the-art Luxury Liner for Orbital Spa & Cruise. Her interior layout was based on that of OSC Hawaii but with more luxurious suites and additional facilities. OSC originally planned the Rhodes to take over the Hawaii's place in Sigma-19. The plan was never realised however, and when completed the Rhodes was placed as the first ship on the Manhattan - Tohoku route, with departures from Manhattan on Thursdays with a 150 hour cruise. The six-day cruises proved very popular and after a few months they were also made available every week of the year, all holidays included.
Captain Goddard Quinn is the current commander of Rhodes, and has been since the Liner entered service in 816 A.S. Before that he commanded several passenger transports and armoured transports with Liberty officials on board for several years. The OSC Board of Executives installed captain Quinn as the commander of Rhodes with great confidence, well-knowing of the captains previous exploits success, while not letting them down once. Captain Quinn has hand picked every single member (150 in total) in his crew, to maximise efficiency and service. When Quinn learned that he was going to command the Rhodes, he convinced the Board to install thicker armour platings, considerably increasing the hull integrity near the belt, conning tower and bulkheads at the expense of several cabins, cargo hold space and many escape pods.
The price of a ticket on the Rhodes cruise is expensive, and only the most affluent population of Sirius can cough up the credits required for the most luxurious suites and services. However, the steady increase of tickets sold on the black market are raising the price of even the cheapest cabins considerably, as black marketeers buy as many tickets as possible, using fake credentials, and then sell them for a much higher price. Low supply and high demand of tickets. It was so profitable for black marketeers to conduct this business, that all the tickets for several decades to come were all reserved. To prevent this, all A and B-class cabins could only be reserved in person just one week in advance of the cruise at the local OSC Offices, while the luxury suites reservations remained the same as earlier. OSC could now keep track of their customers reserving cabins aboard the Rhodes, and only allowed one ticket per person every year. Of course this doesn't apply to the filthy rich and famous celebrities of Sirius.
