OPERATIONAL HISTORY

The Odyssey is the second Venture-class battleship constructed by the liberty navy and the last that is still on active duty. She was laid down by the liberty navy at Juneau Shipyard, Alaska on 8 January 796, and launched on 26 April 797. The commissioning ceremony was held on 31 August 798 at Norfolk Space Docks, New York and command was given to Captain Jack O’Neill. Odyssey was selected as the Shock Trial platform for the Venture-class. The ship was subjected to a series of close range explosions in order for the Navy to obtain critical information concerning the survivability of the Venture-class in a shock environment. The crew prepared the ship for the most demanding and complex ship shock trial test in the history of the Navy. After being commissioned she was ordered to patrol the Kepler and Galileo systems. She was ordered back to Norfolk shortly after the destruction of the R.N.C.-Donau at Manhattan orbit. Shortly after arriving at the station however the crew noticed very strange things particularly O’Neill who’s direct superiors started missing. After ordering the XO to depart as soon as possible even if he is not aboard O’Neill went on shore leave. Eventually it turned out that the fears of the senior staff were right, and the Odyssey managed to escape Norfolk and later Liberty as well. After the forming of the organisation that was later nicknamed the fifth fleet, the ship took part in many operations against the nomad infested Liberty Navy. In 801 A.S. The ship led a surprise attack against the Alaska system to capture ships built aboard Juneau and to destroy a large portion of infected and nomad forces gathering in the system. The ship sustained heavy damage during the attack as it was a trap created to destroy the remaining loyalists. Barely escaping the battle and being the last vessel to leave the system. After the end of the “Nomad War”, she was ordered to return to Juneau for repairs. After repairs were completed she was assigned to patrol the Alaska and later Virginia systems where they remained for another decade.

As the tensions between Rheinland and Liberty slowly rose the Odyssey was called back to Juneau for her first major refit. She was upgraded with the newest technology available to the Navy. She was upgraded with better sensors, weapons and a Mk2 advanced cloaking device. After the war broke out she was assigned to the Texas front to fight against the Rheinlanders. As the Gallic Royal Navy attacked and occupied Leeds the Odyssey was once again reassigned and together with the rest of the newly formed 5th Fleet she fought against the Gaul invasion fleet for many years. On the 31 of march 822 she took part in Operation Royal Flush and helped destroy the RNS-Oubli and most of her fleet in Leeds. She also defended California against the Royal Navy counterattack in December the same year. In 823 the ship was once again ordered back to Juneau for repairs. And in late July she was almost ready for deployment. Unfortunately her commanding officer and leader of the fleet Admiral O’Neill died. Admiral John Sader was given command of her. In late 824 she received her last refit up until today. She was equipped with a Mk4 Jump Drive and the required sensor upgrades for it. On the 27 October she took part in Operation Into the Lion’s Den where her new jump drives were used to retreat from Vespucci after the operation was finished. On the 10th of March 825 she vanished without a trace while heading back to the Gallic frontline.

Subsequent investigations from the NIS and ONI branches of the R&D division of the fleet resulted in finding a small chunk of debris near the last known location of the ship. Upon further analysis the debris was confirmed to be from the missing ship, however the gravitational distortions in the area suggested an attempted jump drive usage. However without further information or trace the search was called off and the ship along with her crew was listed as MIA.

After fourteen months the ship suddenly appeared in Alaska in mid 826 A.S. First responders confirmed it to be the Odyssey and the ship was towed back to Juneau pending repairs as the ship was very seriously damaged. Investigation form NIS and ONI resumed and later confirmed their suspicion of a sudden ambush on the ship which resulted in Admiral Sader ordering an immediate retreat using the jump drive aboard the ship. However, the navigational computers were damaged and instead of jumping into Alaska the ship ended up in an uninhabited system with no jump hole or jump gate connection. Additional extensive damage prevented them from jumping again fearing the complete destruction of the ship. After repairs were complete the ship was once again re-assigned to the Gallic front. Admiral Sader requested transfer to shore duty on planet Manhattan citing personal reasons and Command was transferred to Captain Franklin Drake instead.

Repairs took an additional three months to complete. She also received a minor upgrade to her weapons adding additional gun placements to her. In September 826 A.S. she departed from Juneau shipyard and was assigned to California to supplement the forces there against the Carcassonne. She was also present when the ship surrendered effectively making it her last action in the Gallic War. She was later assigned to secure the path of the returning Navy ships from Bretonia in Cortez after which she was deployed in Hudson to increase security on the border with Rheinland after multiple Liberty civilian ships were attacked by Rheinland elements. She was relieved by vessels from Texas and assigned to patrol the New York system.
