The Ligue d'action révolutionnaire (English: League for Revolutionary Action), most commonly known as Action révolutionnaire or simply la Ligue, is a Gallic far-left terrorist group that was supposedly founded in 741 A.G.S. by Louis-Lazare Donnier de Lumbres as a clandestine extremist Maquis cell. Members are often refered to as Ligueurs or Ligards, the latter being perceived as slightly more depreciative in the media.

This organisation's ultimate objective is to spread anarcho-communist ideals to Gallia and then to all Sirius, following all the necessary steps its founder and First Secretary outlined in his manifesto De la République sociale universelle et des moyens d'y parvenir (English: About Universal Social Republic and the ways reach to it). Publishing this book eventually resulted in Donnier being sacked from the New Paris Nanterre University, sentenced to death in absentia and forced to hide from the authorities.

The group finally came to public knowledge in early 742, through a series of spectacular actions and controversial propaganda messages. Their methods include calls to boycott large corporations, piracy, sabotage, kidnapping, kneecapping, assassinations, terror attacks on both military and civilian targets, in accordance with the old principles of direct action and propaganda of the deed. Members' names are completely unknown as aliases are used in every circumstances.

Besides revolutionary tax, their sources of funding are currently unknown. However, Gallic intelligence services think that smuggling and material support from other domestic and foreign terrorist groups or even rogue States play a significant part in it. Champagne was believed to be one of their main sanctuaries, but it's not the case anymore since the revolting Mazagran massacre.

The Maquis appeared at the beginning of the seventh century as a Council section, composed of the most radical anti-royalist individuals. Because of the sheer brutality shown during most of their actions, Maquisards were subsequently strongly advised to become a distinct autonomous group.

However, while Conseillards frown upon most of their ally and former brothers-in-arms' operations, judging them excessive, they just could not sustain a prolonged war effort without the logistical and paramilitary support the Maquis always provided. According to some war on terror specialists, that is the main reason why the two groups are still in good terms.

Throughout their history, Maquis cells have indeed almost always displayed a huge lack of compassion and interest towards their victims' lives or physical integrity. In many occasions, civilians not even remotely known to be royalists were randomly harmed in massive terror attacks leading to much more collateral damage than the actually intended target.

Maquisard cells are now known to have expanded their range of activities to piracy and smuggling, most likely to cope with their funding issues, which led to a closer collaboration with Brigands. The Âne transports the Maquis obtained through this agreement have proven more than useful under extreme conditions.

To this day, Action révolutionnaire is one of the latest developments in Maquis history. Its founder and Premier Secrétaire is called Louis-Lazare Donnier de Lumbres, a New Paris-born litterature professor of noble descent. Because of his anarcho-communist convictions, he chose eventually to go by a shorter version of his name: Lazare Donnier.

Lazare has always been known to have strange far-left convictions, especially considering his entourage, personal wealth and social class. His status and his family's good reputation saved him from prison many times when he took part in illegal violent demonstrations and university blockades during his student years. He never hid his admiration for the Council goals, though he saw them as too moderate.

The Republic is of course a noble pursuit, but what could be the point of switching feudal aristocracy for financial oligarchy? This could be even worse, he thought, as Republican dominants could justify exploiting the people through the deceitful mask of democracy. What really triggered his passage to clandestinity and violent action was witnessing the umpteenth terror attack perpetrated by Maquisards on a public building.

Lazare had always had for political violence the same fascination many have for flames dancing in a fireplace. "Eureka!", he shouted while watching the GalNet news, irremediably shocking his relatives, who couldn't imagine the following months. His romantic adventure and passage to clandestinity started after he published his testament-like manifesto.

Upon meeting a Maquis covert agent in New Paris orbit, he was flown to Avon Hideout, where he was warmly welcomed. His views were widely known among Maquisards and his defection was seen as a potential propaganda tool. He soon created his own cell, the Ligue d'Action révolutionnaire, and started recruiting a small core to assist him in his maiden operations.

Action révolutionnaire has federalism, decentralisation and autogestion for main principles. Individual lives are seen as worthless compared to the collective future of mankind. According to Lazare and the philosophical tradition he follows, there is a sense of history binding humanity to a single destination. The role of every generation is to grow aware of it and do everything to tend towards this goal.

Around the end of the last war, Action révolutionnaire temporarily merged into a short-lived Council battlegroup, but turned back to clandestinity just after the ceasefire. Compromission of the Confederacy with nobility and bourgeoise was simply unbearable for die-hard Ligueurs. All in all, Donnier's predictions were unfortunately true.

Now that his group has reached a small but critical mass and some publicity, Lazare has set a series of new objectives to be pursued progressively, putting in application the ideas he developped in his manifesto.

Short-term goals:

1. Gain publicity Gallia and Sirius-wide through increased propaganda and attacks on Gallic law enforcement and corporations.
   
2. Strengthen our bounds with our allies in Gallia, namely Maquis cells, Council and Brigands.
   
3. Expand our activities in the Taus, especially along the so-called "Au-Tau-Route".
   
4. Form alliances and partnerships with non-Gallic groups, organisations or States sharing at least partly the same views.
   
5. Gain popularity among Gallic and Sirian citizens or organisations.
   
6. Creating and consolidating a treasury, the Fonds populaire, to fund future actions.
   
7. Recruit and train new members willing to join our cause.

Medium-term goals:

1. Influence the other anti-royalist Gallic groups so they turn to anarcho-communism.
   
2. Set up a large-scale psyops program.
   
3. Kindnap, take hostages and/or assasinate high-ranking officials, business managers, pro-regime journalists, diplomats, police, military and intelligence officers, conservative figures, clergy or nobles.
   
4. Sabotage symbolic and strategic royalist buildings or installations.
   
5. Provide assistance to as many revolutionary groups as possible in all Sirius.
   
6. Infiltrate major Gallic institutions.
   

Long-term goals:

1. Either expand the revolution successfully by taking control of the State, founding the Gallic Social Republic.
   
2. Or leave a powerful propaganda and direct action tool to the generations to come on the way to the classless society.
   

Avon Hideout, Île-de-France

Strategically located a couple of dozen K away from the Sarcelles-Burgundy tradelane, this old and poorly carved asteroid is a valuable asset nonetheless, as it provides all the necessary means to conduct hit-and-run attacks on traders. As for most Maquis cells, Avon is home to two or three permanent Action révolutionnaire representatives.

Charost Depot, Tau-31

A very convenient base in a strategic position. Action révolutionnaire is already part of the permanent crew of this installation as well, planning to use it as a relay to Bretonia, a meeting hall with other groups of the region as well as a starting point for local raids and expeditions.

Despite being only half-finished and thus not totally functional, Lapalisse will concentrate a lot of Action révolutionnaire activities. A good rear base to raid miners and imprudent traders travelling between Gallia and Kusari, and a node to contact our Blood Dragons neighbours and friends.

Action révolutionnaire consists of three branches with specific functions. Due to the dire straits nature of the organisation, members often operate in more than one division. In addition, each member has to choose personal nicknames or callsigns he is not allowed to disclose outside the organisation.

Premier Secrétaire Donnier being Premier Secrétaire Donnier, pompous names and Latin mottos may have been added.

Despite Action révolutionnaire's strong beliefs in decentralisation and autogestion, today's society and mindsets still make a hierarchy indispensable – as minimal as we want to keep it. The Haut-Conseil is a triumvirate composed of the Premier Secrétaire, the Premier Coursier, who oversees trading operations, and the Premier Artilleur, in charge everything related to combat. Once a month, two more Ligueurs are elected to participate in strategic decisions with the governing trio, thus forming the Assemblée populaire.

Action révolutionnaire's logistics and money-making wing, acting under the Premier Coursier's command. Coursiers mainly haul weapons between Maquis installations and ship sensitive cargo to friendly or allied bases, in order to keep the sadly essential Fonds populaire treasury at a decent level. Can be contacted for deliveries against compensation, i.e. trading contracts.

Working under the Premier Artilleurs's supervision, Artilleurs are the crème de la crème fighters of Action révolutionnaire. Their duty is to execute special operations, mainly attacks on civilian convoys and military units. Furthermore, as they are required to write and publish their own revendication messages in the name of the whole group, only the best writers are permitted to join this section. Rememeber, there can be no successful revolutions without a great style.
