Schiffbauplan 826 - Element B: Umbau - "B/S"; Projekt Fernweh - Soltau Umbau

Projekt Summary: Objekt Soltau
[Image: Rheinland_assault_carrier.png]

RWK-Soltau, Elbe Class Carrier, serial number ["FlNb.Od.DHC-RM.E-081.S-Soltau"], previously assigned to the Ersatzflottenkommando Reserve Forces, was deployed urgently in defense of the Vierlande Prison Facility on March 23rd, 826 A.S.. During the course of the battle, the RWK-Soltau served as the forward operating base of Rheinland's fighter and bomber wings defending the station, in particular fighter-bomber wings deployed from the Hamburg Defense Fleets along with Kampfgruppen Vallentorm and Admiral Scheer. The vessel suffered moderate damage during the engagement, before withdrawing to Alster under its own power following the fall of Vierlande at the hands of a short-lived alliance of Coalition, Hessians and Unioners. Repair Contract for the RWK-Soltau was issued on March 31st, 826 A.S.

Damage Report: RWK-Soltau

This damage report is the summary of the Daumannn Heavy Construction Soltau Inspection Damage Report [color=blue][Internal Document Number DHC.826|GB826-KGV1/2.SfE#1875:"Soltau"]
. The inspection teams were led by Senior Engineer Dr. Robert Franke. The overall damage to the Objekt "RWK-Soltau" is rated as moderate - not severe, requiring non-operational repairs ["M/S:/DR"]. Contract for Inspection, Damage Report and Repair is contracted by Rheinwehr-Rheinland Military, Kampfgruppe Vallentorm; the Third Party Liability is held by Konteradmiral Reinhardt von Ehrenberg, and is assigned priority under Grossbauplan 826: Schiffbauplan. Repairs to Objekt B/S:"Soltau" to be prioritised over work on Projekt B/U:"Wassergeist" to accelerate completion and free those teams up for more significant work required for Projekt Wassergeist.

The damage to the Elbe Class RWK-Soltau can be broadly catagorized in three areas: Primary areas of Damage to the ships outer hull and armour, Secondary areas of Damage to the Docking Bays and Docking Bay Door Assembly, and general damage to a number of areas (internal and external) of the ship which result from a combination of damage sustained during the Battle of Vierlande and as a result of wear and tear inevitable in the operational service life of military vessels.

Hull & Armour Damage Report
The damage to the Armour plating of the Objekt is centralized in four (4) areas of the hull. In three (3) areas this damage is sufficient to have penetrated the armour plate and damage the Primary Hull, although this is not significant enough to have caused structural collapse or failure of the ablative armour system.

The Damage to the armour plating is located in four (4) key areas, of which three (3) are sufficient to require repair of underlying Primary Hull or Structural supports. Three (3) of these areas are located in the forward bow section of the ship, while the fourth is located near the keel line abaft of the Primary Hangar Bay. The repair of this damage is relatively routine, requiring the assembly of new sections of the Armoured Band and Armour Plate in these areas.

Docking Bays Damage Report
The damage to the Hangar Bay Doors Assembly appears to have been sustained as the result of low-velocity high-mass impact, but inspection teams were not able to specific the exact cause of the damage. It takes the form of moderate damage to the external structural plating on arnd around the Primary Hangars; impacts to the external Hangar Bay Door Assembly have caused buckling of the armoured plate which subsequently caused jamming and damage to the operating mechanism, preventing further use of the hangary bays until repaired.

General Damage Report
In addition to areas of primary damage, there are a number of secondary areas of damage which appear to result from a range of causes - including, but not limited to, secondary fires, impact failures, system overloads and assorted combat damage. In total there are 247 points requiring attention, listed below. Included below, indicated number of systems or component elments requiring replacement as part of the fleet upgrade programme to bring the vessel into full compliance with the most up to date Standards & Compliance Guidelines.
  • Maintenance: 186
  • Minor Damage Repairs: 49
  • Moderate Damage Repairs: 3
  • System Faults & Other: 9
  • Refit Requirements: 91

Itemized Repair Plan

Item 1: Repair of Hangarbay Doors
Summary: Moderate damage to the external structural plating of the Primary Hangar Bay space door was sustained during the course of the Battle of Vierlande. Buckling of the outer armour plating has caused jamming of the opening mechanism, preveninting use of the hangar bays. Repair and return to full functionality will be achieved by the removal of the damaged plating and structural support, repair and maintenance of the mechanisms and then the installing of a new, reinforced, Hangar Bay Door Assembly. Once primary installation is complete, a general refurbishment of the Hangar Bays will be undertaken.

Stages:
  • Removal of Damaged Components
  • Repair of Primary Hangar Bay Door Assembly
  • Primary movement mechanism
  • Replace Structural Guide supports
  • Install new Hangar Bay Door Assembly
  • Hangar Bay Refurbishment
  • Removal of minor damage to deck plating
  • Refurbishment of damaged and worn parts

Commodities Required:
  • 500 Hull Segments (from Alster, Hamburg)
  • 500 Ship Hull Segments (Dortmund, New Berlin)
  • 2500 Reinforced Alloy (from New Berlin, New Berlin)

Item 2: Repair of Primary Hull
Summary: The damage to the armour plating and primary hull of the 'Soltau', while not severe is in need of repair and replacement before the vessel can be deemed space worthy or combat fit again. The damage is localised in three (3) areas, centralized around the area of the forward hull, toward the bow segment. Repair of the Primary Hull must be undertaken before the armour plating can be replaced; this will be achieved by the removal of all damaged components, before the rebuild of the structural support is undertaken - this then permitting the replacement of the Primary Hull in the affected sections.

Stages:
  • Removal of damaged elements of Primary Hull and Armour Plate.
  • Reconstruction of the underlying Structural Support Structure
  • Rebuild of the Primary Hull

Commodities Required:
  • 2500 Reinforced Alloys (from New Berlin, NB)
  • 5000 High Performance Alloy (from Kensington, New London)
  • 2500 Hull Segments (from Alster, Hamburg)
  • 2500 Ship Hull Segments (from Dortmund Station, NB)

Item 3: Repair of Armour Plate
Summary: The Damage to the armour plating is located in four (4) key areas, of which three (3) are sufficient to require repair of underlying Primary Hull or Structural supports. Three (3) of these areas are located in the forward bow section of the ship, while the fourth is located near the keel line abaft of the Primary Hangar Bay. The repair of this damage is relatively routine, requiring the assembly of new sections of the Armoured Band and Armour Plate in these areas.

Stages:
  • Replacement of Damaged Armour Plating

Commodities Required:
  • 500 Reinforced Alloy (from New Berlin, NB)
  • 500 Ship Hull Segments (from Dortmund Station, NB)
