The conference room was filled with roughly forty Order Officers, mostly Captains and Commanders. The High Command members faced the crowd from the front of the room, with Fleet Admiral Sius Malacos standing at the forefront behind a speech podium. One by one, Sius called individuals among the group up to the raised stage, awarding them with promotions; some became Captains, others became Lieutenants, others yet Commanders. Sius had requested that Aki attend the ceremony for formality reasons, even though she had received her promotion to Commander only months ago.

Aki had never been a fan of such social gatherings. Being promoted was always nice, but all the formalities taken made such conventions drone on for seemingly endless hours; hell, the least they could do was put on some better music. She looked up and smiled as one of the pilots she had flown with while on patrol was called to the front, receiving a promotion to Lieutenant. He had a giddy grin on his face and was fondling the pin placed on his chest like it was made of solid gold. Aki thought back to when she had first joined and been promoted up to Lieutenant, she had the same stupid smile on her face back then. She shrugged the memory off, it was something everyone went through; once you passed through enough ranks the excitement started to wear off, he would likely be standing at the back of the same room thinking the same thing sometime in the future.

"Commander Aki Kimura..." Admiral Malacos announced at the podium.

Aki was caught in a daydream thinking about her past in the order, oblivious to the mention of her name.

"Commander Kimura!" Sius insisted in a stronger tone.

Aki snapped out of the daze, realizing he was calling her name and having absolutely no clue why. A few of the Officers in the room chuckled quietly to themselves as she hurried up to the stage, blushing at the embarassment. As she approached the podium, Admiral Malacos smiled and turned back to the crowd.

"While Commander Kimura has only been an Officer in The Order for a few short years, she has demonstrated unwavering loyalty to our goals and unshakeable courage in the face of destruction. Commander Kimura has assisted us greatly in these past few months with everything from political matters to recruitment, to overseeing the development of our newest line of Warships which shall soon be deployed on the front lines in the defense of Humanity. All in all, very few members of The Order have been as dedicated to the cause as Aki has, and with that..."

Sius retrieved a medal slung from a ribbon loop from the interior of the podium and turned to place it around Aki's neck.

"...I am honored to promote her from the rank of Commander, to the rank of Admiral. Congratulations, Admiral Kimura, may your service to Humanity endure for years to come."

Fleet Admiral Malacos smiled as Aki stood there, dumbfounded with a blank look on her face. She looked down at the medal hanging at her chest, holding it up with one hand. Malacos nudged her towards the podium to give her own speech.

Aki took a few moments to straighten herself and clear her throat. "Uh... well I wasnt expecting this today." She looked back at the High Command members standing behind her, "I'm honored by this, Admirals. I only received my promotion to Commander a few months ago... I certainly wasnt expecting to become an Admiral any time soon." They nodded and smiled at her as she started to walk back offstage. Admiral Malacos stopped her and whispered in her ear, "Just wait till you see the ship we've got ready for you, pack your things and be in launch bay eight in four hours."

Aki left the stage, still shaky from the sudden and unexpected promotion. 'Well', she thought to herself, 'Maybe the excitement doesnt go away over time after all...'
<Location: Lisbon Station, Omicron 100, 4 hours later>

Aki drug her luggage into the Launch bay, barely on time. Two Nephthys Fighters were prepped and ready for launch, but Fleet Admiral Malacos was nowhere to be found. The dock workers approached her and took her luggage, loading it into the nearest Nephthys' cargo bay. One of the pre-flight check crew was inspecting the ship, Aki approached him "Is Admiral Malacos on his way?" She asked.

The man looked up briefly from his notepad, "No Ma'am, Commander Edwards over on the other side of the bay there will be escorting you to Evora."

Aki nodded and walked around the bay, "Commander Edwards?" The man was fastening his flightsuit for launch. He looked up at her and saluted, "Ah, Admiral, an honor to meet you. We can launch as soon as you're ready, Evora is waiting for us."

Aki turned back to the first fighter, climbing into the cockpit and securing her flight gloves and helmet. She flipped on the fighter's reactor, and moments later numerous lights and gauges on the control panel lit up. "Admiral Kimura to flight control, requesting communications check." she said, adjusting the microphone in her helmet. "This is flight control, you're loud and clear Admiral."

Commander Edwards had powered up his fighter as well, and his voice echoed in her helmet, "Escort Kappa One, requesting clearance for Launch."

A siren sounded off in the launch bay and yellow lights on the walls began rotating to warn the dockworkers that the fighters were ready to launch. Once they had cleared the bay and sealed the doors behind them, flight control voiced over the comms once more, "Flight Control to escort Kappa, you're cleared to launch, opening bay doors now. Safe flight."

The airlock doors in front of Aki's fighter slowly ground open, launching the air within the bay out into space in a violent rush. Commander Edwards' fighter lifted off the bay floor and rocketed out into the black. Pulling up on the strafing controls, Aki lifted her fighter off the floor. She hit the thrust and launched out of the bay, quickly catching up to Commander Edwards.

"Setting course for Evora, form up Ma'am."

Aki manuvered to his wing and linked her ship's autopilot to his fighter. "In formation, let's go Commander."

"Engaging Cruise."

Her ship sprang forward at a third the speed of light as they aimed for Evora shipyard on the other side of the system.

<Location: Orbit of Planet Viseu, Omicron 100>

Evora shipyard appeared over the horizon of Viseo as they approached from the dark side of the planet. Construction vessels were swarming the drydocks, finishing their work on four new Order Warships. A row of six additional ships were lined up in space on the far side of Evora, having already been finished and only waiting for crew they were moved out of the docks to make room for new projects.

Edwards took them alongside the nearest drydock, "There she is, Admiral"

Aki looked out to the dock at the left, seeing for the first time the ship she would soon be commanding. It was amazing, roughly the size of an Osiris, slightly longer, but an entirely different design. Four elongated launch bays protruded from the front of the vessel, covered by extensive armor plating. At the ship's midsection, pylons extended outward, running fuel and coolant lines around the ship's exterior. Several structures which looked like observation decks protruded from the top and sides of the ship, with a large, similar structure just behind the midsection of the ship; most likely the bridge. At it's rear was a large engine section, holding several massive thrusters at it's aft and an array of heat dissipation ribs. The entire vessel was bristling with turrets, armor plating, and shield projectors.

"Wow..." Was the only word Aki could muster.

"She's called the Bastet, one of the first Order Light Carriers to be produced at Evora. Her sister ship on the other side is the Hathor, while the third of the group - Fleet Admiral Malacos' ship - is called the Orillion. I dont know all the specs, but the engineers at Evora should give you the rundown."

Edwards opened a channel to Evora's flight control, "Evora, this is Escort Kappa, requesting clearance to dock."

The controller at Evora voiced back, slightly broken up by static from all of the nearby traffic, "You're clear Escort kappa, welcome to Evora. Please proceed to dock two."

<Location: Evora Shipyards, Omicron 100>

Aki was approached by one of the station engineers as she climbed out of the cockpit of her fighter. "I take it you're here to show me the ship?"

"Yes, Admiral. Your things will be taken to the Bastet by our dock workers, please follow me." He said in a decidedly rushed tone.

"What's the hurry?" Aki asked, removing her helmet and flight gloves and leaving them with the fighter.

"High Command just seems intent on getting these ships out of here as soon as possible, they've been pressuring the construction teams about it lately. We've still got several more ships to build and we're behind schedule." He replied, walking at a brisk pace towards the drydocks.

They entered a long, windowed hallway that lead down the side of the drydock where the Bastet was waiting. The ship was held in place by only a few graviton generators; a million tons of hardware suspended by nothing but strings. Construction craft buzzed back and forth along the dock, stopping at varying points along the ship to make minor additions. Most of the hull plating had already been welded together, all that was left to be finished was the paint job. The engineer began his introduction as he lead Aki down the corridor towards the airlock.

"The Bastet is only slightly larger than an Osiris Battleship, similar width and height but roughly thirty percent longer; However, it uses space much more efficiently for the storage and launching of fighter, bomber, and support craft. She carries three fighter wings, one bomber wing, and one support craft wing, and is capable of fielding one additional wing of ships ranging from fighters to personnel transports. The Bastet has a standard crew complement of twenty-two officers, thirty-three petty officers, ninety-six crewmen, and twenty-four flight personnel, for a total of one-hundred and seventy-five crew members including yourself. Officer quarters are on the upper level ahead of the command deck, petty officer quarters are on the mid level, while crewman and flight crew bunking is on the lower deck. One-Hundred robotic units programmed for repair, maintenance, and service tasks fill out the remaining compliment of the ship. She's designed to run at maximum efficiency with a very small crew requirement, alleviating personnel limitations we've encountered on our other large ship classes."

"The Bastet has a full array of research and medical facilities including four observatories which double as officer lounges and conference rooms. The command deck lies raised just aft of midship, with the CIC and briefing room taking up it's rear portion."

They reached the airlock and the engineer swiped his passcard, opening the door to a short ramp leading downward to the Bastet's primary access airlock. "Ready for your tour, Admiral?"

"The CIC & Briefing room is situated in the rear portion of the Command Tower, just behind the Command Deck. The CIC & Briefing room contains information stations which coordinate all sensor information from both the carrier's sensor systems and from other vessels and bases working in coordination; creating a complete view of mission areas. This section is where all fighter, bomber, and support pilots are briefed and debriefed before and after performing external-ship operations."

Officer's Lounge

"The Officer's Lounge allows off-duty command crew an area to relax, eat, and drink. The Officer's Lounge features a large viewport giving it's occupants a clear view of the system the Carrier is operating in. The Officer's Lounge connects to both the Command Tower and the ship's Officers Quarters, allowing the command crew of the carrier quick and easy access to their stations in emergency situations."

"The Carrier has four observatories situated along the sides of the ship, two port and two starboard. Each observatory features a unique design related to standard architecture of the four houses of sirius, allowing it's occupants to feal at home. The observatories function as additional crew lounges and areas to eat and drink in, but are also used as diplomatic conference rooms when ambassadors or other representatives are onboard the ship."

Engineering Section

"The Carrier's Engineering Section contains the ship's primary reactor, along with it's main engine chambers, in a two-deck setup. The Engineering section provides all power and life support for the rest of the Carrier, and as such is heavily armored and reinforced to resist damage during battle."

Launch Bays

"The Carrier contains four launch tubes at it's bow which serve to release and retrieve fighters and other craft, and a launch bay lies at the rear of each tube. Each launch bay serves as a double-gated airlock, and the bay depressurizes when fighters launch. The Launch Bays contain minimal equipment, as most ship preparation is performed in the repair bays. Each Launch Bay can hold up to two fighter or bomber craft at a time, allowing the Carrier to launch or retrieve up to eight ships every two minutes while additional ships are moved into the bays afterwards."

Repair Bays

"Behind each launch bay lies a repair bay, where ships are refueled, repaired, and rearmed before and after each external-ship operation. The repair bays contain all equipment needed to exchange weaponry used by each fighter or bomber, as well as refueling hoses and teams of repair personnel to fix ship damage and replace irreparable hull plating. The repair bays also contain additional space for storage of fighters, bombers, and support craft while they are not in use."

Cargo Bay

"The Cargo bay stores all fuel, food, water, oxygen tanks, fighter ammunition, and other supplies used by the Carrier while in operation. The cargo bay occupies a large portion of the Carrier's lower deck, and utilizes robotic arms and elevators to move supplies to various levels of the ship."

<Location: Carrier Bastet, Evora Shipyards Drydock, Omicron 100, 2 hours later>

After the tour of the ship, Aki headed up to the bridge to take command, remembering the engineer's urgency to get her out of dock. The lift's doors swished open, revealing the bridge and numerous command crew and workers still hustling about to get everything ready for launch. The current shift's commander saw her saluted, "Admiral on deck!" - the rest of the bridge crew followed suit, snapping to attention and saluting.

"At ease" Aki said with a grin. She made her way around the bridge, familiarizing herself with the different stations and crew members. At the rear of the bridge, a small hand-painted portrait of the ship's matron - the Goddess Bastet - was secured to the wall, along with a brass plaque below it;

Order Light Carrier Bastet
Commission Date: 6-7-3 - 817 A.S.
"Curiosity and Intrigue drive us to the black,
only Vigilance and Loyalty will bring us back."

Aki smiled to herself as she read the Plaque; she had said those very words over a year ago in a speech directed at a new wave of recruits to The Order's ranks. Apparently one of the lead engineers had attended that speech, and taken the words to heart.

Aki headed to the Captain's chair at the center of the bridge, and ran her fingers over the control panels on the chair's arms before sitting down. Every captain developed a close bond with their ship, a fact she learned from Eisen in her time serving on the Pakhet. 'A Captain must know his ship, better than any of the crew', he had said. Aki had looked over the ship's schematics during it's construction, but this was the first time she had been aboard it; the feeling was different entirely. Through the chair, she could feel the reverberations of the ship's engines, life support, and gravity generators; a hum of life from what most would consider a non-living thing.

Directing her attention forward, Aki gazed out the bridge viewport into space. The ship was still closed in by drydock beams and construction equipment, but she was ready to be free from that cage. "Alright people, High Command wants this ship launched and on her maiden voyage as soon as possible - let's get a systems check done and see what she can do."

The entirety of the bridge crew resounded with an "aye-aye ma'am!" and went to work, checking every system on the vessel for operational status. Several minutes later, the commander sat down next to her in the secondary command seat; "All ship systems operational, Admiral. We're ready to launch."

Aki nodded and flipped a switch on her control console, opening a link to Evora Shipyard's flight control center. "Evora, this is the Bastet, all systems are operational and all crew accounted for, requesting launch clearance."

"Affirmative Bastet, construction crews will be clear in thirty seconds, you are cleared for launch at that time."

Through the viewport, Aki watched the few remaining construction ships buzz out of the way. Roughly thirty seconds later, the graviton beams holding the Bastet in place deactivated, leaving the ship under it's own control. "Alright helm, take us out."

"Aye-Aye Captain" the helmsman replied, powering up the carrier's engines and moving it's more than million tonnes of mass slowly out of the dock. For such an immense vessel, the Carrier handled well, seemingly more manuverable than even the smaller Osiris Battleships.

After a few seconds they had cleared the dock entirely, and entered a high orbit around planet Viseu. The helmsman looked back to Aki, "Orders, Ma'am?"

"Let's see what this ship is capable of, go to cruise speed and set a course for Omicron Minor." Aki Replied.

Subsection I: Nueralnet & Sensor Interface Band (Project Viewscreen)

"The 'viewscreen' is a device which links visual, audio, radar, and other sensor systems directly to a commanding officer onboard a warship. Designed in several forms, ranging from a headband to earpeice or helmet, this system allows the wearer immediate access to all information being processed by the vessel's sensor systems. In effect, it gives the wielder a full tactical awareness of the ship and nearby space, and also acts as a communication device allowing the wearer to be in constant contact with various personnel both onboard the same ship, as well as on other allied ships."
