You pirate for RP and pews, not money.
The state of piracy right now is terrible and has only gotten worse with a slew of trader-protection rules being added in, with piracy interactions not being of any decent quality due to low RP traders or lawful gank squads.

And for people who say piracy isn't profitable: it absolutely is (or was) if you stalk the right routes or cargo pirate (t. ex JM Grand Marauder pirate lord). Sadly though, the current state of the game dictates that any credit demand over 5mil or any attempt at profitable cargo piracy can easily net you with a sanction, so you're better off safe than sorry; avoid piracy altogether.

How is there a majority against this? Based on some replies it seems like people are being silly and not taking the concerns seriously, as they're quite obvious problems that have greatly hampered the piracy experience for years. Is the significant decrease in pirate activity not apparent?
That's why i demand cargo. But yes, that cap is idiotic. And piracy is so annoying to do when you get dropped on by 3 bombers, and/or 585278021 LABCs (looking at you, liberty)
The sad fact is, the lack of piracy also then adds to the lack of need for police factions. Whats the point of "patrolling" your ZOI as a police unit, when theres nothing to really police?
It also means that Trader's have no need to hire people as escorts.
I remember back in the day during my first months in Discovery making Credits as a Freelancer/Merc by being hired to escort Traders through certain systems and routes, sometimes nothing would happen, sometimes there would be a pirate, and it was fun. I dont see that really happen these days because theres no risk to being pirated as a trader. If your sploded, the rules state your still allowed to trade in that system just as long as you don't get involved. Personally i think pvp death should apply.
IF a trader dies because of a pirate, whether its because they refuse to pay or didn't have an escort, then that's the risk they take. Theres no repurcissions to being a trader with the current rules, theres no need to worry about a pirate because you can just pay him off and be on your way and lose very little.
Something needs to change to give incentives for Pirate's to Pirate. If you do that you give more activity for Freelancers and Police factions
On a serious note a simple official and not silently enforced rule would help like:

- Demands for cargo may be up to but not exeed 5000 credits/unit.

but changing something that makes sense these days? how dare you!

Smuggling within house space is a huge thing, at least for me.
Just pirate as a Junker in the border worlds or Kusari easy money.

I think you need to read the Rules again.

If you die in any ship from PvP, then you are not allowed in the System for one hour.

No, it works only if you docked in range less than 15 K from your enemies. Usually counts as PvP death, but not for traders.

Quote:4.3 Docking during combat with hostiles in docking message range (15k) counts as PvP Death, except for transports. If a player combat docks in a transport they may remain in the system for the sole purpose of trading only. They may not attack anyone unless in self defense. This restriction lasts for one hour.
Optionally you just send noods to the representative whos walking trough your case eh xD
