Cryer Pharmaceuticals

Overview
Cryer Pharmaceuticals is a biotechnology corporation headquartered in Liberty. They focus on drug research and other medical sciences. Their research into a Cardamine alternative, dubbed "Stabiline", have made them a target for the Outcasts, Golden Chrysanthemums, Liberty Rogues and Lane Hackers.

Atka Research Station
The Atka Research Center was constructed by Cryer Pharmaceuticals to study the Alien Organisms commonly found in the Edge clouds. Cryer is intensely interested in the commercial applications of these Organisms because they have proven useful in several phases of terraforming. Cryer imports substantial quantities from the nearby Samura operation on Kurile.

Atka recently achieved a major breakthrough in ongoing research into Cardamine addiction. A synthetic version of the drug, dubbed Stabiline, proved to keep Cardamine addicts alive even when no longer taking the orange drug itself. The long term effects of Stabiline are as of yet not known, but that hasn't prevented Cryer from marketing the drug to police forces and clinics throughout Sirius. It comes as no surprise that many of the Cardamine-dependent criminal factions, most notably the Outcasts, have begun targeting Cryer with greater frequency.

Pentecost Outpost
Originally planned to be finished by 824 AS, the Cryer Board of Directors for the longest time was uncertain as to where to construct Pentecost Outpost. Ultimately, to be worth the cost of maintenance, Pentecost would need to be constructed in a place where it would be able to fulfill a role that was not already being fulfilled by Atka Research Station in Sigma-17 but would share the same benefits of seclusion.

Recently completed, Pentecost Outpost serves as a sequestered hive of activity less for research but more for the acquisition of materials that the Houses would deem illegal or dangerous, judging by the lack of visible scientific staff. Curiously enough, both the Corsairs and the Core seem to be leaving the station alone, despite knowing about it, giving credence to the theory that Cryer either is sparing no costs in incentivizing both Crete and the Core to leave them alone or that Cryer has separate deals of natures different than money with both that allows them to operate unimpededly. Given this fact, however, Pentecost's position is a quite secure one, at least for the time being.

Cambridge Research Station
The Cambridge Research Institute is widely known as the largest intellectual institution in Sirius, surpassing its rival institutions in prestige by no short distance. This is mainly due to its proximity to Planet Cambridge, site of the largest university and research complex in the Sirius sector. Technically owned by Cryer Pharmaceuticals, the station is primarily a medical institute, though it produces medical and domestic goods to be shipped throughout Sirius.

Although there are many avenues of research currently being explored onboard the station, the most highly publicised one to date is that of the collaborative work between Cryer and Planetform to solve the disease issues on the planet Carlisle in the Newcastle system.

Stabiline
Stabiline is produced by Cryer Pharmaceuticals through an advanced nanomanufacturing process in zero gravity environment. The drug is a synthetic copy of essential chemical modules that are found naturally in Cardamine, with one crucial difference: Stabiline does not create further genetic alteration in the DNA of the user. Regular doses of Stabiline may replace Cardamine intake, resulting in an addict who is no longer dependant on an illegal substance, although the pharmaceutical does not reduce the pre-existing chemical dependency, nor does it reverse previous DNA alteration. Side-effects are the same as from Cardamine, although use of Stabiline does not involve a biochemical dependency unless the user is already addicted to Cardamine.

Synthetic Marijuana
Unfortunately, Alliance sleeper ships did not contain a single seed of marijuana. However, in 312 AS a previously unknown pharmacist and drug dealer from Rheinland named Max Cryer created a new drug from a combination of local plants and synthetic components. The effect of the new drug resembled the effect of an ancient plant found on Earth before the exodus that was known only from old books and encyclopedias. Therefore pills of the new drug were called "synthetic marijuana." Cryer succeeded in forming secret agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies, and synthetic marijuana powder was added to many medicines in small doses. This resulted in 400-600% sales increases for many medicines in only two years. At the same time, Cryer started to distribute the marijuana pills as an ordinary drug. Rheinland police soon found out the origin of the new drug and put a stop to its mass production. They even caught Cryer, but at court were unable to prove his guilt. In 330 AS, 10 years after trial, Max Cryer used the billions he had earned in the drug trade to establish a new phamaceutical company in Liberty, known as Cryer Pharmaceuticals. Since then, synthetic marijuana has become expensive and difficult to find, but it is known that its production continues in some remote places far from House borders.

Med-Stasis Bands
Designed especially for high casualty triage and medical treatment, Med-Stasis Bands wrap around the arm or leg of a patient. They are capable of functioning as a pressure bandage in case of wounds to the extremities, while simultaneously monitoring the patient's vital signs, and transmitting real time medical data to a remote station staffed by medical personnel. This enables staff to monitor multiple patients without physically inspecting them. The devices also are capable of administering a wide array of Pharmaceuticals by remote command, according to a schedule, or in response to a medical crisis such as cardiac arrest. Marketed by Cryer Pharmaceuticals as the "nurse that never leaves your side," the devices have been swiftly adopted by medical establishments stretched to the breaking point by years of warfare.
