Origin of the Dragons
5 A.S. - 321 A.S.

Planet New Tokyo

The year was 5 AS. The sleeper ship Kusari had just made it to what would soon become modern day New Tokyo. It was roughly four years after the events that brought the Alliance to its knees. Of course, by now nobody remembers why this happened. All that is known is that it did, and that we are here now to rebuild. And rebuild we did. The Hideyoshi bloodline was on that vessel long ago, separated into their own deck of the ship, when it touched down. A Shogunate was immediately installed, as soon as time allowed. An empire is not built in a day.

The Kusari Shogunate reigned supreme over its territory for the first three centuries of the nation, and part of the fourth. Several generations of Hideyoshi lived and died during this period, starting from the moment that the sleeper ship landed and ending during the last moments of the 桜屠殺 (Sakura Slaughter). The Sakura Festival, once a celebration of the coming of spring signaled by the bloom of cherry blossoms, had turned into a bloody reminder of chagrin. During this tragic coup d'état, military traitors funded by Samura in the interest of cannibalizing Kusari for profit invaded 千代田城 (Chiyoda Castle) and outnumbered his guard. Right in the middle of the palace, the Shogun committed 切腹 (ritual suicide), feeling he had disgraced his bloodline by failing to protect his people. The Shogun had an heir, but they vanished during the events of the Slaughter, effectively ending the Hideyoshi bloodline. Directly afterwards, the Shogun's best guard, Okamura Kozue, made the call to flee the castle and the entirety of sovereign Kusari with the remainder of the guard. The coup was not entirely unexpected, and the Shogun had laid out evacuation decrees in the unlikely event that the Shogunate was toppled by superior forces.

Kyoto Base
Evacuation procedures involved Shogunate loyalists securing control of several transports, mining and base construction equipment/materials, and prototype capital vessels, using them to carve a path through Kusari into uncharted territory. This was before the time of widespread trade lane and jump gate infrastructure, and Kusari had yet to establish full lane transits. Shogunate warships skirmished outside New Tokyo and beyond to clear the way while ground forces gathered the men, women and children loyal to the Shogunate and shepherded them to the transports. It was not possible to save everyone, as loyalists were hunted down left and right. Regardless, they found who they could and boarded the ships, leaving port as soon as the opposition in space was scrapped for the moment. Having no other choice, Okamura and the loyalists surveyed and flew to uncharted space, ending up somewhere in what would become the present day 中国地方 (Chugoku region). The warships, now battered and beaten from the travel and preceding combat, are rendered inoperable and left adrift in Chugoku space, eventually being refitted into the new Togo many centuries later. What was left of the fleet proceeded to search for a suitable place to call home, and stumbled upon the perfect asteroid to construct a base. Now perfectly hidden deep within the Crow Nebula, the loyalists had plenty of time to work on such a project, and after several months, Kyoto base was completed.

With the Hideyoshi line shamed and cut short, Okamura Kozue would become the first true leader of the loyalists. Though pressured, he refused to accept the proposition of a new Shogunate in honor of the lost Hideyoshis. Thus, the loyalists remained masterless 浪人 (ronin) for quite some time, even after his death in 391 A.S. It wouldn't be until much later when they began adopting the Shogunate structure once again. He dubbed the remaining samurai the "Blood Dragons". A symbol of their grief, and their pride, stained red.

Unbecoming Decline

The Battleship Kokura

Over the past few years, the Dragons have seen a steady fall in power. Cliques have come and gone, each claiming to be the acting authority of the Dragons, while fumbling about. They each were unable to handle the task of running a large scale counter-rebellion, and failed. Past decisions have wedged a rift in between the long standing alliance with the Golden Chrysanthemums, and devalued the honor and truthfulness of their words. The loss of the Hideyoshi family has also been a permanent stain on Dragon society. This has both upset and demoralized the civilian population of Kyoto, and caused a power struggle to begin. At the center of it, a secret society of Dragon loyalists who had abandoned their past lives on New Tokyo after subscribing to Dragon propaganda for years. Their families may or may not have been influential government figures sympathetic to the cause. Feeling used and lied to, the group inspired others to join up and seize control of the mess. Headed by Ubukata Tsuya, who took particular offense to the state of the Dragons. It would mark the first time in recorded Dragon history that a Dragon clique was lead by a woman. They move to mobilize forces to form an authority to fill the new power gap, dubbed the "Rose Dragons". 薔薇, meaning "rose" in the native tongue. Both the name and the logo of the faction are meant to symbolize a romantic new hope for the masterless ronin of their home. Like an ever growing rose, spiraling and expanding ever outwards to cover the stars with our might.

828 AS - The Rose Dragons are born.

New Beginnings
828 A.S.

Key Target: Planet Tomioka

Infighting between the Dragons has slowly quelled, resulting in a victory by the Rose Dragons, won through forcing the powers that be to surrender peacefully. The Ubukata Shogunate is formed, and pledges to return honor and grace to the name of the Blood Dragons once more. Their promise involves a return to what they believe to be the roots of the Dragons, whilst allowing for a new future to grow. They intend to wash away the poison of older generations and start on a clean slate. Tsuya herself has been particularly studious of Dragon history, learned through her co-conspirators. Her group is tightly knit and the 大名 (Daimyō) consist of them. Though many Dragons are concerned with the de facto Shogun of the faction being a woman, some even viewing the faction as pretenders due to their being fresh arrivals, the group has done well in suppressing and answering worries. The fledgling Shogunate has reached the point where it can mobilize itself and begin to rebuild its lost glory. The Dragons will return to Kusari. It is their birthright, one not to be mistaken for arrogance. Long Live the Blood Dragons.

Upper Chain
Every rank in this tier can use any ship at the Dragons' disposal, including the Togo-class Battleship.

将軍 - Shōgun - The military dictator of the Dragons, reserved solely for the first in command. The Shogun exerts supreme power through the military force and delegates diplomacy through his or her Daimyō.
幕府大名 - Bakufu Daimyō - Bakufu literally means "tent government". The Shogun's trusted inner cabinet of Daimyō and associated clans who have proven themselves trustworthy and self-sufficient, able to pull their own weight. They are the Shogun's steeds, and take orders directly from the Shogun. On paper, they run the Shogunate.
大名 - Daimyō - Lesser Daimyō that form the bulk of the lower high command rankings. Though not as influential as major Daimyō, they are the ones that do the dirty work that the Bakufu have no time for, and still hold authority over the lower chain if nobody else is present. They may or may not lead a clan. Only Daimyō may lead a clan.

Mid Chain
All ranks here can fly all small ships and transports. Genbu: Gunboat. Byakko/Kirin: Cruiser.

麒麟 - Kirin - Kusarian equivalent to the mythical unicorn. This mid chain rank acts as a kind of lieutenant commander, serving under the Daimyō and responsible for commanding brigades of lesser samurai in battle when a Daimyō is not present, or when extra delegation is needed.
白虎 - Byakko - The White Tiger constellation. These samurai are the equivalent of lesser lieutenants, managing warriors underneath in the ranks of a Kirin. They control weaker authority but still hold influence among the samurai.
玄武 - Genbu - The Black Tortoise/Warrior constellation. Genbu are the juniors serving underneath Byakko and Kirin. They lead squadrons consisting of the lower chain.

Lower Chain
All ranks in this tier may fly all snubs except En'enra, which can only fly the Tanto/Katana.

化け猫 - Bakeneko - A name used to define cat yōkai that have gained supernatural abilities in old age. Here, it is symbolic of the samurai's growth and progression. They have shown they are capable of achieving their dreams.
錦鯉 - Nishikigoi - Named after the popular carp used in water gardens. Koi samurai have proven they have what it takes to swim upstream, and is the most promising rank awarded to low ranking samurai.
煙々羅 - En'enra - The name of a yōkai composed purely of smoke and darkness. The temporary trial rank given to novice samurai that have just been recruited into the Dragons. They have piqued the interest of the Shogunate through their skills in life and combat.

For unique sacrifices or actions in the line of duty and life as a Dragon, you may be awarded special titles.
They are honorary and determined on a case by case basis, meaning personalized.
(Any member may fly any ship permitted by the ID if they wish.)
(However, ships above their character rank must be roleplayed accordingly.)

Shogunate Directives
Long term goals of the Dragons.

• Crush the Kaigun and reinstall the Shogunate proper.

The corrupt and stagnating government that holds Kusari in its grasp will stop at nothing to blindfold and exploit the people. They have proven through the allowance of Samura to run rampant that they have no care for the common man. We will cleanse them of their dirt, take back what was ours and return justice to our homeland and our proud people. We will make them open their eyes.

• Support and protect vital allies to our cause.

There are many factions in Kusari and beyond who would be more than willing to assist in bringing the Kaigun to an end, for whatever reasons they may hold. We will, if necessary, protect the assets and people of said faction in the interest of liberating Kusari from exploitation.

• Prove our truth and righteousness to the people of Kusari.

We must let the public know that we are not to be feared, but embraced. It is our birthright to lead the realm of Kusari, and we were shamefully robbed of that right. Spurring public outrage against the Kaigun would greatly improve our popular support, and sway political figures to our cause.

• Never another Samura. | Establish 鎖国 (Closed Country)

The madness caused by Samura cannot be forgiven. We curse them for the lives they took on that day for profit, and the antics they continue to play out without consequence. Once we are in power, enact laws creating limitations and checks on Kusari corporations to prevent immoral abuse of the people and the government. Seal the country off to the majority of outsiders, save for special individuals or organizations that have proven to be pure of intent.
